How much for this sandwich?

I was out for lunch today at a local independent cafe. Had an egg Mayo sandwich on brown bread, it came with a small amount of homemade coleslaw and salad (plain lettuce leaves with tinned sweet corn and peppers, no dressing).

How much would you expect that to cost? Lighthearted as I really enjoyed it (apart from the sad salad) - just curious!

£6.50?

Spirallingdownwards · 18/02/2024 17:48

Yes was going to say £6.95 myself.

commonground · 18/02/2024 17:49

Well if you'd bought it in Waitrose it would have been around £2.50.

So in a cafe with a bit of lettuce - £3.25? £4 at a push?

For some reason £5.80 came into my head.

BeyondMyWits · 18/02/2024 17:50

Egg mayo on brown bread is my favourite in our local cafe... they charge £5.50 for one really stuffed full with egg... so that's my guess...

though I get fresh, springy, peppery cress with mine, not a sad salad....😆

Mypoorstomach · 18/02/2024 17:50

£9.50 is what I paid for similar. We were on holiday and had little choicebut I have no idea how these businesses survive on local trade.

cowgirl42 · 18/02/2024 17:50

£4.95?

Missingmyusername · 18/02/2024 17:51

Anywhere from £6-12.

IncompleteSenten · 18/02/2024 17:51

Eating in at a cafe? About 6 or 7 quid maybe.

frozendaisy · 18/02/2024 17:51

Independent cafe, high overheads, £8

PossumintheHouse · 18/02/2024 17:51

£7.95

GoodVibesHere · 18/02/2024 17:52

£6.50

TheHorneSection · 18/02/2024 17:52

Anywhere between £6-8, though I’d begrudge the £8 for that salad.

Birdsworth · 18/02/2024 17:52

£7.50

countdowntomexico · 18/02/2024 17:52

£8.50. Because I don't think you can eat in somewhere independent and get a sandwich and a coffee for less than a tenner anymore.

Wtafavocado · 18/02/2024 17:52

I'd begrudge paying more than £6 for that with a drink.

surprise4 · 18/02/2024 17:52

Would be at least £7 where I am.

Punxsatawnyphil · 18/02/2024 17:53

£4-£5. I'm probably completely out of touch though, rarely eat out.

CantStandMeow · 18/02/2024 17:53

£6.50

CJ4713 · 18/02/2024 17:53

£8?

I paid £6.50 for a similar sandwich last week- but it didn't have coleslaw nor a sad salad.

SuzieSaturday · 18/02/2024 17:53

Round here that would be somewhere between £6.50 - £7.50 in a cafe

Mypoorstomach · 18/02/2024 17:53

I would say in excellent bakery close to me I can get an egg mayo salad sandwich deep filled on brown bread for £2.55 which seems like a bargain. They also do a dulce du leche brownie which is the best thing I've ever eaten.

FizzyWizzyBubbles · 18/02/2024 17:54

Paid £7.50 last week for the same

Bloomingdaffs · 18/02/2024 17:54

About a fiver.

CeeJay81 · 18/02/2024 17:54

£5-6 I'd say but I'm betting it's something like £9.50.
