How much for this sandwich?

I was out for lunch today at a local independent cafe. Had an egg Mayo sandwich on brown bread, it came with a small amount of homemade coleslaw and salad (plain lettuce leaves with tinned sweet corn and peppers, no dressing).

How much would you expect that to cost? Lighthearted as I really enjoyed it (apart from the sad salad) - just curious!

@Alwaysgoingforit we were out in the countryside and came across the place for lunch, no menu online and by the time we were in and sat down with the menu we felt a bit stuck! I was starving. 🤣 knowing the price now though, I wouldn’t go back.

A small
Independent place in the nearest city to us last weekend was £21 for two cappuccinos and two egg bagels.

LindorDoubleChoc · 18/02/2024 20:16

£5.50

If it’s fresh free range eggs and homemade mayo (or even Hellman’s) plus overheads, wages, I can see why they have to charge so much.

guineasgalore · 18/02/2024 20:21

That's quite pricey - at our local pub it would be £7 and include a small basket of fries

ghostbusters · 18/02/2024 20:21

I'm also in NE Scotland and I'd be interested where this is so I don't go there!
Saying that, we had lunch out today in a farm shop cafe sort of place (in the shire) I was £10.95 for a salad, chickpeas and feta. Quite a small portion. Had to eat a brownie after to fill me up. Luckily my brother paid so I have no idea what the total cost was 🙈

Greensleevevssnotnose · 18/02/2024 20:22

About £6

Lordofmyflies · 18/02/2024 20:25

I went to a local cafe last week and bought a cheese and pickle sandwich with same bit of sad salad - lovely thick wholemeal bread though - £8.95!! This is in Cornwall so can be pricey but even so.

RuthW · 18/02/2024 20:27

£6?

Smidge001 · 18/02/2024 20:33

£8

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 18/02/2024 20:34

Wehave a local garden centre that charges £11.95 for a tuna melt pannini.
I mean honestly.

Advice400 · 18/02/2024 20:36

I had exactly this dish last week. Thick, fresh, granary..lots of filling plus I asked for tomato. Side salad and crisps. It was £7.95 and I thought that a bargain.

AlltheFs · 18/02/2024 20:38

I think £9.50 is a lot. It would be £8ish here but would include a handful of crisps as well as coleslaw and salad.

TheBayLady · 18/02/2024 21:31

£3.50 or a fiver if it came with a cuppa.

TigerOnTour · 18/02/2024 21:40

8.50

Wbeezer · 18/02/2024 21:46

You've been had! I'm in Scotland too, or lovely Scottish Italian café/chip shop does a lunchtime special, a filled roll with half a portion of chips ( generous) AND a tea or coffee for £7.

mitogoshi · 18/02/2024 21:47

£6-8 depending on how posh the setting

Moro93 · 18/02/2024 22:05

I’m in Scotland and I wouldn’t expect to pay more than £5 for this, £6 at a push. If it was £9.50 I would expect a decent side salad, some crisps and maybe a tea 😂

Nightowl1234 · 18/02/2024 19:57

That is wild! I’m in London, and even we wouldn’t pay that down here for a regular sandwich!

Eat in? Of course we would.

@Howmuchhh £12.50 at the local farm shop cafe.

£4.50 for a small latte.

hence we don't go there anymore.

Greedflation.

Sleepysleepasap · 18/02/2024 22:16

£7-8 is my guess

pizzaHeart · 18/02/2024 22:18

Howmuchhh · 18/02/2024 17:55

I expected around £6.95. I’m in NE Scotland, so not big city prices or anything.

It was £9.50 😱

Wow!!! I would go to M&S cafe next time - it would be cheaper.

pizzaHeart · 18/02/2024 22:22

Oh just saw that it was countryside - it is more understandable then.

I suppose it depends on where you go. I work in central London. A really nice tuna melt near my office is £7.80 - that’s with fresh focaccia bread, rocket not cheap lettuce etc. But of course it’s London - so a huge variety of options and there will be plenty of places either more or less expensive than that!
