How much for this sandwich?

I was out for lunch today at a local independent cafe. Had an egg Mayo sandwich on brown bread, it came with a small amount of homemade coleslaw and salad (plain lettuce leaves with tinned sweet corn and peppers, no dressing).

How much would you expect that to cost? Lighthearted as I really enjoyed it (apart from the sad salad) - just curious!

I'm in Scotland too. Last week we nipped into Home Bargains cafe. Wasn't expecting much but it was delicious and cheap at under £9 - 2 x ham & cheese toasties (just like a Costa), bottle of coke, pot of tea, packet of crisps and chocolate chip cookie

£9.50 for a nice but not wow sandwich in Inverness (or wherever it is) does seem ridic.

We have two places nearby, one of which would charge about £6 for that. The other would charge about £10 or £11. I went to the more expensive place with a friend recently and we paid £30 for two sandwiches and two coffees. It was lovely, but bloody hellfire ...

That's incredibly cheap - their margins must be absolutely miniscule on that.

There's absolutely no way you could charge anything approaching that in an independent high st cafe with no economies of scale.

We went to an independent place within some retirement apartments last week and paid £11.70 for two x small sausage baps, a portion of homemade chips and a Fanta. I didn't think that was too bad.

Then about £15 in a nicer independent place in a more touristy town, for 2 x teas, 1 x kids' hot choc with cream and marshmallows, and 2 x homemade caramel shortbread slices. That felt like pretty good value tbh, as they had loads of Lego available for playing with and my kids were delighted.

Theres seldom a price difference between cheap sandwich fillings and expensive ones in smaller cafes, ime. I'd expect to pay at least £8 round our way, also semi- rural Scotland.

£2 max.

£25.95
