Just heard the word "romanticised" pronounced with a hard c. Is that how it's said?!

BirthdayRainbow · 16/02/2024 21:10

Romanti sized

2Old2Tango · 16/02/2024 21:11

I pronounce it row-man-tee-sized.

Katherineryan1986 · 16/02/2024 21:11

No - a soft c

Dearg · 16/02/2024 21:11

Romanti sized

Yes

DerekFaker · 16/02/2024 21:12

Roman tick ised?

No that doesn't seem right at all.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/02/2024 21:13

Definitely a soft C - you have been pronouncing it correctly all along, @InstrumentsofTorture.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/02/2024 21:13

Not with a hard C.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 16/02/2024 21:16

No, you’re right and they’re wrong, BUT but i can see a whole new hobby in fucking with pronunciations like this to see who i can get to go along with it.

respectable - with a soft c
Diligent - with a hard g
hollow - with a silent h.

the possibilities are endless!

HappierTimesAhead · 16/02/2024 21:18

I don't understand, how would it be pronounced with a hard 'c'?!

Username947531 · 16/02/2024 21:19

Whoops. Just take the shame and move on. Worst things happen at sea.

Romantic ised like two separate words?

OoohLaLaLa · 16/02/2024 21:20

Soft c - row-man-tiss-eyesed

I am worried I’ve been pronouncing livery (horse based not like an organ) wrong all my life after a chance conversation.

Grateful for thoughts!

Livery rhymes with shivery.

Now I am just repeating it this way to make it sound less strange but it just sounds really strange 😂

I pronounce livery as liver - ree.

Pretty sure that how everyone pronounces it round here in Surrey (where many, many ponies are owned)

OoohLaLaLa · 16/02/2024 21:27

DonttouchthatLarry · 16/02/2024 21:24

Livery rhymes with shivery.

That’s what I thought! Thank you

While we're talking about hard and soft C's, is Moschino 'mo-she-know' (with mo as in mop, not farah) or 'moss-key-no'.

I always thought it was the first one but heard it pronounced the second way on TikTok recently and now doubting myself. Not that I have cause to say, or even think about, Moschino often.

I think mo-she-know or at least that's what I've always said! Moss-key-no just makes me think mosquito 😄

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/02/2024 21:33

Me too @fancyfrogs!

travelforthesoul · 16/02/2024 21:35

I think the pronunciation depends - Italian is a hard sk - like SKI where as uk version is sh as mo she no.

InstrumentsofTorture · 16/02/2024 21:35

The relief! Thank you. I'm right, he's wrong. Tbf, "he" was a man on Tiktok! But he did say it twice with a hard "c" so I had a moment of worry!

I pronounce ‘stoicism’ with a hard ‘c’, mainly because I have a slight lisp, and find it very difficult to say it the correct way.

People might find it annoying, but I like to think I’m giving them a good opportunity to practise what I preach 😂

larkstar · 16/02/2024 21:39

publicised
criticised
romanticised
all end rhyme

I've just spent a happy 5 minutes mispronouncing these :).
