Has anything you usually buy recently just disappeared from shops?

I cannot find 'cook at home' poppadums anywhere. Used to be in most supermarkets. I used to buy them all the time. I go to my local Indian shop for them sometimes but they've usually only got flavours I don't favour. The ready made ones aren't as nice and are usually in a load of plastic non-recylcable packaging which doesn't please me either.

I don't mean products that have been discontinued a long time ago, more so things that still exist but you just can't buy anywhere from recently!

Own brand coffee creamer is another one. Don't use it myself but I've heard people at work saying this often.

Own brand coffee creamer powder. Most supermarkets used to sell their own brand yet now only Coffee Mate is available and even they’ve discontinued their low fat version. They’ve also reduced the size of the container yet, same old story, have increased the price. A couple of years ago it was around £2.75 for 500g and today I’ve paid £3.45 for 325g.

I tried 6 different supermarkets and couldn't find brandy snaps or baskets. My DP thinks I've made their existence up as he's never heard of them 😂

Have not been able to get jamaica ginger cake since covid hit.

Our Co op sells it.
Looking online Tesco, Morrisons and Iceland sell it.

Our farm shop sells brandy snaps and baskets made by a local supplier, otherwise you're right they've vanished

justasking111 · 16/02/2024 14:19

I wonder if it's a regional thing. If a supermarket in one part of the country sells 4 ginger cakes a day they disappear. Whereas another supermarket elsewhere sells 50 a day so is supplied.

When son went to Leeds university their Morrisons was amazing compared to ours for some things.

Irish soda bread - there used to be a brand called Rankin that was sold everywhere but I think it no longer exists - but now that's gone my local supermarkets don't stick any soda bread at all.

Big Sainsburys and Tesco near me stock Irwins Soda Bread - its OK, but usually make my own.

AnotherOneGone · 16/02/2024 15:21

Where did Heinz Mustard Pickle go? Love it on a cheese sandwich. Find piccalilli too vinegary

@EveryOtherNameTaken

your DP is a div! 😂😂

make them yourself, they're easy and much nicer!!

as a young teenager they were my party piece

Haven't RTFT but Schwartz have stopped doing their packet Potato Dauphinoise sauce. I emailed them and lack of demand, apparently.

Also John West smoked mackerel - again I emailed and lack of demand.

There was a phase not that long ago where I could take my little shopping list and come back empty handed after visiting Morrisons, Asda and Sainsburys.

@Sera1989 Our Morrison's fish counter (London) had loads of beautiful looking mackerel.

Rennies tablets in orange flavour. Most places only have the horrid peppermint now

I haven't tried the Rennie's orange but last week I bought some Superdrug own brand orange flavour indigestion tablets.

Bacon chops
Lidl's Very Berry teabags
Lincoln biscuits. I know you can get them online but I haven't seen them in shops for years.

notthe1Parrot · 16/02/2024 20:03

Soda bread - our M&S Simply Food does a delicious soda bread (sliced) for £2.20. I think it's £2.10 in the bigger stores.

amberedover1 · 16/02/2024 20:27

@BrendaMcPherson our local Morrison's ( London) has Lincoln biscuits in the world/ other countries (whatever it's called).I think it's with Irish specialities.

ScrambledSmegs · 15/02/2024 22:55

M&S used to do dark chocolate batons filled with mint fondant. They were my childhood favourites (I was far from normal) and I was devastated that they were discontinued.

They'd better not stop making their wine gums, they're far better than bassets and they have an extra flavour - grapefruit, the white one.

I bought several boxes of the M&S mint batons around Christmas, they're in a flat green box and I think were around £3. They are lovely! In the interests of research I'll check if they still have them if I'm passing the store tomorrow 😄

Proper cream cheese. Not the sloppy shit you spread on a bagel. If anyone knows where I can buy it, I'd be eternally grateful.

TM1979 · 17/02/2024 00:01

In Ireland and not a Jaffa cake to be had in Super valu. Saw own brand ones in aldi but not the real deal. I do love a Jaffa cake.

Paninis, used to buy a pack of 4 to use in our panini press. Can’t get them anywhere. Sainsburys said they don’t make them anymore!

Try Aldi. I have them on my shopping list every week and am always able to get them from there.

Mothership4two · 17/02/2024 00:55

My favourite chocolate Green & Black's Organic Sea Salt Chocolate Bar is nigh on impossible to get hold of. Less and less places stock it,, but now it seems permanently out of stock.
