Full make up at the gym?

I recently joined a gym after many years of not going to one and running outside. I was surprised to go and see many women at the gym in full make up and hair done. I do not remember this being the case 10 or 15 years ago. It doesn't bother me at all to each their own but I just find it strange to be exercising with a full face on and your hair done. It also seemed like many were not actually doing much which is understandable as if they were sweating it would spoil their look. Is this a new thing?

Oh gawd…I used to wear makeup at the gym too. Couldn’t be bothered to remove it after work. It did run down my face while I sweated profusely on the treadmill. Hardly glamourous - I looked like a female version of Rudi Guiliani.

Oh boy. I’m there with a full face of natural make up. Amazing make up that doesn’t sweat off. Makes me feel better when I’m sweating and gurning into the mirrors along the side.

4 pages in and no one else has mentioned Instagram. That is literally what people do these days- everything is documented on there especially gym selfies hence why the make up and fancy gym gear.

Has it occurred to you that people do more than one thing in the day? I’m not going to go out of my way to take my make up off to work out, just to put it back on again immediately after to continue with my day, only because some people have an opinion about make up at the gym. I have little enough time as it is.

I put on my normal make up and head out to work and go to the gym on my way home. If on my day off I’ll nip in whenever I have time. I’m not applying make up for the gym. I’m applying my everyday make up

I wear makeup, go to an all female gym. Never taken a gym selfie in my life. It's a little judgemental to tar everyone with the same brush.

Ten to fifteen years ago what the OP describes did happen, albeit with a small number of women. Two I recall were on exercise bikes on occasions going slower than a tortoise.

A lot of women now do proper heavy lifting too, which is much less unkind to makeup than cardio or lots of reps
