Full make up at the gym?

mixedmoomin · 13/02/2024 23:42

I recently joined a gym after many years of not going to one and running outside. I was surprised to go and see many women at the gym in full make up and hair done. I do not remember this being the case 10 or 15 years ago. It doesn't bother me at all to each their own but I just find it strange to be exercising with a full face on and your hair done. It also seemed like many were not actually doing much which is understandable as if they were sweating it would spoil their look. Is this a new thing?

They've either not removed it prior to their work out or...semi permanent make up

I always remove mine at the gym before going out. I use a rober that leaves my skin looking fresh with a nice glow. And, I plaster on Carmex like I've never seen it before.

I have powder brows, lip blush, eye liner and very subtle lash extensions. Coupled with dewy face and a bit of shine on my lips, I must look fully made up.

I wear very, very, very little make up because of rhe enhancements I have. Bare face vs fully done and there's not a huge difference

Alargeoneplease89 · 14/02/2024 15:46

Ahhh female solidarity.

Everyone is paying same, seriously who cares if they have make up on or how hard they are sweating.

I go with foundation on because I have terrible telangiectasia from an autoimmune disease which I'm very anxious about.

Sadiesgoneout · 14/02/2024 15:59

I wear make up to the gym. I usually go at night so just don't take it off but if I go in the morning I still wear some makeup. It's not because I'm a poser it's because I have no confidence and bad anxiety and I could count on one hand the amount of times I've left with house with no makeup on in the last 25 years. I wish I had the confidence go fresh faced but I just don't. I do think people judge me but they wouldn't understand. Also I work hard at the gym but barely sweat. If I did sweat a lot on my face I just probably wouldn't go to the gym at all. I go because it helps my confidence so please try not to judge.

I was at the gym this morning, didn’t notice if anyone had make up on. I did notice people looking like they hadn’t worked out even though they did as I saw them do it. I am jealous that I always look a sweaty mess and some people don’t.

LoobyDop · 14/02/2024 16:30

I don’t wear any, because I go first thing in the morning. But if I went later and happened to be already wearing makeup, I wouldn’t remove it.

I will have make up on if I go straight from work. I seem to be the only person who leaves with a red face, sweating and my hair a soggy limp mess🤣 everyone else looks so bloody glamorous post workout 🤦🏻‍♀️

Stand beside me and be my soggy twin!

ObliviousCoalmine · 14/02/2024 17:05

I don't understand the confusion about this. If I go to the gym straight from work, I'll have make up on. Am I supposed to wash it off first? I quite like not looking like a thumb when I'm in public?

sexyandsmart · 14/02/2024 17:17

Some people don't sweat much on their head or face. I've known Many people who look fresh as a daisy facially whereas I may be glowing. They might sweat more on their back or chest. I don't. I don't get back sweat at all.

I detect more than a mere hint of disingenuousness in your tone. You say you are 'just wondering' but can't stop yourself from repeating that they aren't really work out much....just standing around.

It's obvious that they really irk you. How about just mind your own business. Why do you care so much. You obviously do.

sexyandsmart · 14/02/2024 17:20

@mixedmoomin

like I say most of these girls aren't working much anyway

Yes. You do keep saying this.

It isn't that I think it will look bad but more that it appears to be bad for the skin according to dermatologists and it could be causing imperceptible damage which might not be noticeable now but may contribute to premature ageing of the skin in future.

Oh bless your caring little heart 🙄

It always amazes me to see women topping up their mascara and lippy prior to working out.

It must be so bad for their skin.

And it's a bit sad they are so lacking in self confidence.

Miaow

BlueGrey1 · 14/02/2024 17:24

Some people see the gym as a pick up place to meet men

I always wear make up to the gym ( not heavy) but I wear makeup everywhere

sexyandsmart · 14/02/2024 17:25

I'm probably older than those of you bitching. I have trained hard for decades. I lift heavy. Sometimes I have makeup on. Sometimes I don't. Generally depends what I was doing before or what I'm doing after.

What I don't do is scrutinise other women in the gym and declare great concern for their skin or act dismayed for their self confidence or lack of.

I mind my own business. I can assure you the serious gym goers I have known over the many decades I have trained care not a jot whether some one has makeup on. But there is one type of person they despise. Judgey, self righteous bigots who are desperate to find things to bitch about. We really don't like them.

manipulatrice · 14/02/2024 17:43

I look like I've been dug up when I'm there, unless I've gone after work.

I always look at the other women and wish I looked as good as them 😭

Why on earth would it be bad for their skin?

I think it's a bit sad that people make goady posts like this judging other women on choices they make about their own face/ skin.

surprise4 · 14/02/2024 17:47

I don't wear much makeup but I don't remove it for the gym because I shower when I get home. I assume this is what the women with lots of makeup are doing too.

Most of the women look amazing at the gym I go to and spend far less time posing around than the men.

Kelly51 · 14/02/2024 17:48

I suppose I don't wear much make up if at all and don't like the feeling of it on my skin
Another OP who can't grasp not everyone is like her.
A lot of nasty comments being made yet again about other women, who cares what anyone wears, it doesn't affect you.

I'm sure they don't care about your pity.

shivermetimbers77 · 14/02/2024 17:52

I'm kind of jealous of people who can do a full workout wearing makeup as that would leave me with a face full of acne (yep, even non comedogenic makeup seems to do it to me when mixed with sweat, grrrr).

GoodOldEmmaNess · 14/02/2024 17:53

I haven't noticed any change in women's workout-makeup habits over the last 15 years and I've been a gym member all that time. I think that for a lot of women (not me), the gym is quite an important part of their social life. They chat with their women friends, have coffee in the gym cafe, etc. If they are makeup wearing people in general it seems quite natural that they would want to wear makeup for an outing that is, for them, as much social as anything else.

Dentistlakes · 14/02/2024 17:59

Depends what they doing. I don’t sweat much when I loft, but do when I do cardio. I don’t really notice what people look like. I go very early so lucky to have my eyes open at all.

On the rare occasion I’m in later and there’s younger crowd in, they do socialise more than us older lot. A lot healthier than I was at the same age! I didn’t set foot in a gym in my 20’s!

UneFoisAuChalet · 14/02/2024 18:02

I’ve been going to the gym for years and it’s not something that I ever noticed. BUT the younger girls - teenagers - seem to prefer a full face.

This was later confirmed by a few friends who said their teenage girls did their hair and makeup to go to the gym. I guess if you’re taking selfies on the treadmill for the gram you need to look good.

Personally, I love leaving the gym looking like shit - but healthy, strong, powerful shit. I want flushed cheeks, sweaty chest and messy hair. In the past, I went to lose the pregnancy weight and now I’m there to stave off the symptoms of peri menopause. Not to meet cute guys hanging out by the weights which I did twenty years ago when I made sure not to sweat because I didn’t want to ruin my hair or have mascara running down my face.

Let them enjoy their youth and beauty, I say!

missushbbb · 14/02/2024 18:06

None of your business, who cares, just concentrate on yourself and what you're doing at the gym.

superplumb · 14/02/2024 18:06

It isn't a new thing at all. I've been a gym member for many years. I go after work. I can't be bothered to take it all off and work out. Too much faff. Also lots have false eyelashes etc too

Brrrrrrrrrritscold · 14/02/2024 18:09

You sound really judgemental. At 51, I try not to go anywhere without make up, I look and feel better with it. I train hard 5 days a week, and my make up stays on. How is that any of your business?
