Did anyone guess the twist in Sixth Sense when you first watched it?

Spoiler below

When watching the sixth sense for the first time, did anyone guess that Bruce Willis was dead before it got revealed?

I just watched it now and it feels SO obvious! I feel like if I watched it for the first time in 2024 I would’ve guessed. But back when it came out I didn’t

OP posts:
esmeisa · 13/02/2024 21:30

I didn't see it coming, but watched it abroad and they still had an interval
in the middle of the film. One of my friends said 'do you think he's dead?' How to ruin a film !
It's quite fast moving and i don't think it gives you time to think which is why you don't spot it . So obvious when you watch it again - clever film

DMCWelshcakes · 13/02/2024 21:44

Yes. They showed Bruce Willis being killed and the kid saw dead people. And nobody else interacted with Bruce Willis during the film.

Danik8 · 13/02/2024 21:46

I clocked it immediately. I thought it was very obvious.

TruJay · 13/02/2024 21:58

I didn’t see it coming at all.

Side note, The Sixth Sense absolutely terrifies me! I know it isn’t even scary compared to some horror films but even now, in my thirties, I am so scared of this film. If I watch a scary film (although I actively avoid them) the horrible bits just stick in my mind and they’re the things I run up the stairs at the speed of light from when going up to bed 🙈🤣 Sixth Sense has always haunted me!

YeOldeTrot · 13/02/2024 21:59

Yeah. Me and my boyfriend at the time settled down to watch it. A few minutes in I said ' ah! He's dead isn't he?'

Didn't go down very well

SingingSands · 13/02/2024 22:01

No I didn't. Saw it very early on so no friends to spoil it, and there was nothing like it to compare it to so "for its time" it was well done.

Only just watched it again recently, still a great film.

Cornishbelle · 13/02/2024 22:02

My and my boyfriend (now Dh) were heading out to the cinema and my fil said goodbye to us as we were leaving he just called out "he's a ghost you know" 😂

PaperSky · 13/02/2024 21:24

One of my favourite films with a twist was primal fear, I never saw that coming.

I never really do tbh, I like it though, gives me more enjoyment. DP always guesses them, I hate watching films with him, giving me his theories. Just ssshhhhh, let me be surprised 😂

I loved that film, I full on gasped when I realised. Ed Norton is amazing in it.

EarringsandLipstick · 13/02/2024 22:04

People have the option not to read a thread about a twist in an old film by not clicking on it

Of course. As long as the title reflects that (which it does!) and I think it's also fair to mention there are spoilers ahead (again as OP has).

It's hardly difficult to do either as demonstrated by OP.

Halftermhalf · 13/02/2024 22:05

Yes, immediately. i'm really good at guessing twists (not much else though ;)

Deadringer · 13/02/2024 22:05

I guessed quite early on, same with The Others. In The usual suspects I figured out who the baddie was right at the beginning of the movie and made the mistake of telling my dh, he has never forgiven me. I have learned to keep quiet now when I figure something out. 🤐

ZebraPensAreLife · 13/02/2024 22:07

I didn’t, but I saw the film quite early on and before there was too much hype. I’d also managed to miss any mention of the fact there was a twist.

I did get the twist in The Others instantly, though. Although I’m still not completely sure what the scenes with her husband were about!

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 13/02/2024 22:10

I didn't guess any of the twists!

Sixth Sense
The Others
Shutter Island
Primal Fear
The Village...

HippyChickMama · 13/02/2024 22:18

We didn't get round to seeing Sixth Sense at the cinema, I mentioned to a work colleague that we'd rented it from Love Film (renting DVDs by post, remember that?) and we were going to watch it that night and she blurted out the twist.
Someone outside the cinema told dh what was in the box when he was on his way to see Se7en, it wasn't anyone he knew, just a random person intentionally spoiling it!

C1N1C · 13/02/2024 22:19

(Semi) spoiler on How I Met Your Mother:

The 'twist' being that the mum had died, and the ongoing relationship with Robin.
I think most people apparently watched it thinking it's just a man telling a romantic story on how he met his wife... but the fact it was just him telling it, going into so much detail, obviously meant she had died... plus the Robin thing was a no brainer.

annlee3817 · 13/02/2024 22:32

Yea blurted it out when he was having the meal with his wife and got moaned at, I think like others said I'd heard there was a twist and just knowing that made it obvious

AuntieSoap · 13/02/2024 22:54

Yes, basically in the first scene, and I'm shit at guessing twists normally. I just thought it was the most obvious thing ever because the tagline and trailer was all about the kid who sees dead people.

theconfidenceofwho · 13/02/2024 23:08

Hummusandstuff · 13/02/2024 19:17

Yes.
Otherwise why the big robbery stabbing scene at the beginning?

Yes this, plus when he was sitting next to the kids mum, it was really obvious when they weren't speaking to one another.

My friend was in a queue outside the cinema and someone drove passed in a car and shouted "Bruce Willis is a ghost" 😂😂

This made me laugh

Something the Inbetweeners might do

Ah ok, I see what you mean. I was so disappointed in the ending TBH, could never see Ted and Robin together.

newnamethanks · 13/02/2024 23:22

Yes, very early on in the film. I sat through it only because a friend had bought me the ticket and was sitting next to me otherwise I'd have left.

Blanketpolicy · 13/02/2024 23:36

Yes, in the cinema when it was released watching with my sister, when he was "late" for their anniversary dinner. Before thinking I said to her in a stage whisper “he's probably dead”, and from that point it was so obvious.

don’t think the row in front/behind us appreciated the spoiler 🤦🏻‍♀️

Februaryfeels · 13/02/2024 23:37

I liked The Others and The Sixth Sense and didn't guess at all

I enjoyed them both second time around too

ladygindiva · 13/02/2024 23:44

Yeah, I watched it when it first came out and guessed very early on.

TallandSkinny · 13/02/2024 23:44

Yeah. Me and my boyfriend at the time settled down to watch it. A few minutes in I said ' ah! He's dead isn't he?'

Didn't go down very well

This is exactly what I did. He was writhing around shot then it said something like "a year later" and he wakes up laying on the bed and I turned to DH and said "he's dead, isn't he."

Never quite forgiven me.
