Did anyone guess the twist in Sixth Sense when you first watched it?

Spoiler below

When watching the sixth sense for the first time, did anyone guess that Bruce Willis was dead before it got revealed?

I just watched it now and it feels SO obvious! I feel like if I watched it for the first time in 2024 I would’ve guessed. But back when it came out I didn’t

The behaviour of his wife gave it away - nobody is that good at ignoring someone. Then there were all the red clues.

FFS spoilers much!?

I think there’s something like a 4 week rule on releasing spoilers for new movies. You’re around 24 years and 11 months too late to complain

Porageeater · 13/02/2024 19:31

No I didn’t. Recently watched it with teenage dd and she didn’t spot it. And she spots everything, no twist or trope gets past her usually which I think is to do with them being much more savvy to these things now. It’s a great film.

LindorDoubleChoc · 13/02/2024 19:31

No. It was a great twist in cinema history and I'm so glad I managed to avoid any spoilers before I saw it.

A Beautiful Mind was another one I didn’t see coming.

A Beautiful Mind? Based on the biography? What's the twist there? It's a true story - as always criticised for some of the sanitisation of the main character.

LER83 · 13/02/2024 19:32

No, didn't expect it at all! Saw it in the cinema and a few people did shocked gasps so they obviously hadn't guessed either 😂 great film. The Others twist was a shock too!

It's ok. I've seen it 😁

What? You clicked on a thread specifically about the spoiler.

RainBow725 · 13/02/2024 19:33

Yes! Within the first 20 minutes or so. I don't really know why. It just seemed obvious. Still enjoyed the film though.

You're too late to watch it for the first time now Grin.

80skid · 13/02/2024 19:33

I sat down to watch it with a friend. She sat down and said "oh I remember this,......" and completely ruined it.

Hummusandstuff · 13/02/2024 19:27

Spoiler? 😁
Better wait another 25 years to discuss it OP

I originally didn’t have a spoiler warning because you know… the film is 25 years old! But figured after the first person complained about spoilers I’d better put a warning so that I didn’t have to read another load of “omg spoiler” comments 🙄

I heard there was an amazing twist, and tried to guess it! Turned out to be right, although watching the start of the restaurant meeting, I thought I was wrong - then in the closing seconds of the scene, realised I was probably right!

MadeForThis · 13/02/2024 19:26

My friend was in a queue outside the cinema and someone drove passed in a car and shouted "Bruce Willis is a ghost" 😂😂

Omg I would be so annoyed 😂 bet this was a great watch at the cinema

His delusions are protrayed as real, including real characters. Although I thought that wasn't really a twist. Because even as he pointed out, the girl never grew up.

WhatICallMyUsername · 13/02/2024 19:36

I remember watching it at the cinema and you could actually see people sitting up in their seats (having got comfier during the film). I've never known a film with so many people discussing it with strangers on the way out!!

BG2015 · 13/02/2024 19:36

No I didn't guess at all.

I also didn't get the twist in the Book of Eli with Denzel Washington.

Cocacolacarrie · 13/02/2024 19:36

The Prestige is another good one for twists. I never spotted it the first time around but now it's so obvious.

scrivette · 13/02/2024 19:37

I didn't know that there was a twist so I wasn't looking out for it and didn't guess. Watching it the second time around was just as good having such a different perspective on the film. I really enjoyed it.

I think that I guessed The Others twist just before it was revealed.

TheDowagerDoughnut · 13/02/2024 19:37

No!

I worked in a cinema when it came out and was in the very first viewing. Without anyone to even suggest to me there WAS a twist, I just watched it straight.

It was the first (maybe the only) film to totally blindsight me with a twist. I was 😯when I realised it.

PuppyMonkey · 13/02/2024 19:38

I did! It was my sister’s fault. She’d seen it first and told me that it had a really good twist at the end. So I went to see it with this in my head and after the first scene, I immediately guessed it. I wasn’t 100 percent sure while I was watching but the more I noticed that nobody really reacted to Bruce Willis apart from the boy who saw dead people, it became blindingly obvious!

GreenSmithing · 13/02/2024 19:38

I did, but I saw it a couple of weeks after it first came out and it had been majorly hyped as "Haley Joel Osment sees dead people: "Bruce Willis is his psychologist who is going through a rough patch" "oh, and there's a MASSIVE TWIST. "

So I'd guessed before I went in what the twist was probably going to be. I think if it hadn't been so hyped as a film with a twist, I would have been a lot less likely to guess.

These days with social media being so much more ubiquitous, I think it would be almost impossible to avoid being spoiled.

10ThousandSpoons · 13/02/2024 19:39

Yes

I think a spoiler alert is fine. Yes it's an old movie but people may not have seen it, and at least should be given the option of reading or not, with clear notice of spoilers. You did the right thing to add it.

kimbear87 · 13/02/2024 19:41

I guessed it, nobody believes me though ☹️
