Did anyone guess the twist in Sixth Sense when you first watched it?

Spoiler below

When watching the sixth sense for the first time, did anyone guess that Bruce Willis was dead before it got revealed?

I just watched it now and it feels SO obvious! I feel like if I watched it for the first time in 2024 I would’ve guessed. But back when it came out I didn’t

The film is 25 years old!

👻 🤣

I’m not sure you can complain about spoilers of something that came out 25 years ago

🤣

Oh, and the twist in Shutter Island was a shock too.

Same! It’s weird, I always guess the plot twists in books but hardly ever in movies

My husband got it right away. I didn't see it coming until the final reveal! What!!!????

Itslegitimatesalvage · 13/02/2024 20:18

My 9 year old guessed it when the trailer played on Netflix. He does this with every single movie.

Mairzydotes · 13/02/2024 20:24

People are more likely to guess the twist in The Others/ The Sixth Sense if they've already seen the other one.

I guessed the twist in The Village really early on .

Yes and I NEVER guess any plot twist ever. Guessed very early in film - must be more than 20 years ago.

Me too! The fact I’m usually so bad at getting them makes me extra smug I got this.

Reminded me a lot of Ghost so I didn’t realise it wasn’t meant to be obvious. And I enjoyed the film without - for me - the twist anyway.

chosenone · 13/02/2024 20:30

Yes! I guessed it from the trailer! To the point my then DH couldn't believe it would be that obvious and then we sat in the cinema and realised it really was 🙈

TooningOut · 13/02/2024 20:30

I think I saw it in the first week it was out and there was no hype about it yet. Totally didn't see it coming. What a great film.

So many great movies around then.

MarnieMarnie · 13/02/2024 20:31

I leave all critical thinking skills behind when I watch a movie/read a book so I very rarely see plot twists. I loved The Sixth Sense, this thread has made me want to watch it again.

megletthesecond · 13/02/2024 20:32

No.

Jigglypufff · 13/02/2024 20:32

I didn’t get the twist for sixth sense.

But I did guess the one for fight club. I’m not really sure how. My boyfriend at the time (a film student) was really pissed off. 😂

bookworm14 · 13/02/2024 20:41

I watched it in the cinema aged 17 and I think I did guess the twist before the end. I definitely got the twist in The Village almost immediately.

FFS spoilers much!?

The infant I held whilst thinking 'bloody hell, this is shite, it's going to be he's dead isn't it?' is now a university lecturer. I think enough time has elapsed since release for it not to be kept a secret anymore.

And whilst we're at it, Charlton Heston returned to Earth in Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green is made of People.

HRTQueen · 13/02/2024 20:46

No not at all and I knew there was a twist

I think it’s a brilliant film with one of the most scary scenes ever (when he goes for a pee in the middle of the night, the temperature drops and a woman in a dressing gown walks passed that’s it, could have been his mum) caused a number of people to scream in the cinema

didn’t guess The Others either that was very scary too

HRTQueen · 13/02/2024 20:47

And I love we are told in the first seen he tells us why he wears those glasses

But figured after the first person complained about spoilers I’d better put a warning so that I didn’t have to read another load of “omg spoiler” comments 🙄

I think a spoiler alert is fine. Yes it's an old movie but people may not have seen it, and at least should be given the option of reading or not, with clear notice of spoilers. You did the right thing to add it.

People have the option not to read a thread about a twist in an old film by not clicking on it.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 13/02/2024 21:06

I read about The Sixth Sense when it came out, that it was about a boy who said he could see dead people & that there was a twist in it, but the article didn't reveal the twist. So just to pass the time, I mentioned it to DH & we came up with ideas of what the twist might be. I forget mine, but DH's was that Bruce Willis's character was already dead.

We went to see the film & about five minutes in, I remembered DH's guess & realised he was right. So I watched the whole film knowing what the twist was! As we walked out I said to DH that he'd been right, & he asked what I was talking about: he'd forgotten our conversation so he'd had the experience of watching it not knowing what was going on. Aaaargh! So he'd ruined it for me & didn't ruin it for himself.

You'd better believe this has not been forgotten in our house, to this day.

I watched it with my 9/10 yo and he guessed it immediately. I had no idea the first time I watched it till the end.

Yep same here. Obvious from the start, it is probably the only twist I’ve ever guessed ever in the history of everything ever 😂

Legendairy · 13/02/2024 21:17

C1N1C · 13/02/2024 19:52

No to Sixth Sense

I guessed How I Met Your Mother's 'twist' after a few episodes (really annoyed my wife as she was expecting me to be amazed at the finale).

I have seen HIMYM 3 times and don't know what the twist is 😂🙈

Legendairy · 13/02/2024 21:18

I am rubbish at guessing twists in anything, I had no clue re Primal Fear and most people say they guessed that one easily. I'd love to watch that and Sixth Sense again for the 1st time.

BMW6 · 13/02/2024 21:24

Yes I realised when she was having dinner for their anniversary and he was late, twigged that she had never looked at him let alone spoke to him since the shooting at the beginning.

PaperSky · 13/02/2024 21:24

One of my favourite films with a twist was primal fear, I never saw that coming.

I never really do tbh, I like it though, gives me more enjoyment. DP always guesses them, I hate watching films with him, giving me his theories. Just ssshhhhh, let me be surprised 😂

BMW6 · 13/02/2024 21:25

Oh yes the twist in Primal Fear was brilliant, as good as The Usual Suspects I think
