I am shocked, I was listening to him on Sunday. My heart goes out to his family

OP posts:
LizzieSiddal · 13/02/2024 17:08

Oh my goodness. Very unexpected and very sad for his family.

MarkWithaC · 13/02/2024 17:09

I admit I haven't listened to him since his Radio 1 days in the 80s/early 90s – I loved his show – but what a horrible shock.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 13/02/2024 17:09

Poor Sara Cox sounded devastated

It does sound sudden, they were advertising a show he was doing this week.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 13/02/2024 17:10

Very sad news. RIP.

youngestisapsycho · 13/02/2024 17:10

How sad… just listening to Sara. Very sudden

MixingPlaydough · 13/02/2024 17:10

Gosh that's sudden, I'm sure I was only reading about him doing a new radio show the other day.

WhoopWhoopNow · 13/02/2024 17:10

His show last Sunday was pre recorded according to the BBC, it does seem very sudden though.

Fizbosshoes · 13/02/2024 17:11

Even though I wasn't really a fan it feels like a shock as he's been almost a constant presence on the radio since my teens (when he was on radio 1) and for years - until fairly recently - at work (radio 2)
Sara Cox sounded very shocked and sad, they were probably colleagues for years

Viewfrommyhouse · 13/02/2024 17:12

He was lined up to launch another couple of BBC Radio stations. This is so sad. 🥺

TheDogsMother · 13/02/2024 17:12

That is such sad news and sounds like it was sudden. He had only recently taken over the Chart Show and had also started a second Long Songs type show.

Dartmoorcheffy · 13/02/2024 17:13

Really shocked by this and yes Sara sounded so upset. RIP, another gone way too soon.

sorrynotathome · 13/02/2024 17:13

So sad. He was such a good presenter, unlike the rubbish that passes for DJs on Radio 2 now.

Gazelda · 13/02/2024 17:13

Oh no! Soundtrack to my youth. RIP Steve.

Viewfrommyhouse · 13/02/2024 17:14

Sunday Love Songs, Serious Jockin', DJ Silly Boy 😭. Poor Sara, listening to her now in the car, making me shed a tear.

Thislittlekitten · 13/02/2024 17:15

This is so sad. I absolutely loved listening ti him all through the years.

We used to listen to him in the car in the 90s going home from school. Loved him
on radio two. He was so fun to listen to.

AMuser · 13/02/2024 17:15

So so sad. I still was loyal to Steve and very much part of my 80s childhood. Rest in peace.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 13/02/2024 17:15

How sad, always reminded me of my youth. Will miss him on Sunday mornings.
RIP Steve.

Sunshineandrainbow · 13/02/2024 17:16

Just heard, wondered if he had been poorly. But if he was on the radio on Sunday. Very sudden.

Purpleavocado · 13/02/2024 17:17

Really sad to hear this 😢

PastorCarrBonarra · 13/02/2024 17:18

So shocked. He only just took over Pick of the Pops.

He mentioned on his show last year that his dad was still alive. Poor, poor gent, outliving his child.

I think that Steve proposed to his wife on air in the 1980s.

SirChenjins · 13/02/2024 17:18

So sad - he was such a part of my youth. 69 is no age at all 😢

Nudgethatjudge · 13/02/2024 17:19

Sunday's radio show was pre-recorded but he was due to do some new radio shows.

A long career. I thought he was rather like marmite, you loved his shows or didn't, but he was talented.

trulyunruly01 · 13/02/2024 17:19

His show was a landmark of a British afternoon for so many years. You might groan and roll your eyes (and I suspect he sometimes meant for you to) at some of it but in so many offices, trucks, workshops and homes, that was the afternoon.

MissyB1 · 13/02/2024 17:19

69 far too young, life is very unfair sometimes.

Mrspatmoresspoon · 13/02/2024 17:20

He wasn’t bad at all on pick of the pops, suited his cheesy style
