Lots Twitter chat about Anderson moving to Reform.
He clearly wasn't going to be suspended if he had apologised.
And didn't Anderson recently say he'd been offered money to move to Reform.

Wonder if that was his overall aim - get suspended & be welcomed in by Farage.

Piggywaspushed · 24/02/2024 15:34

Twitter seems to think the stage is set for Lee to defect to Reform.

newnamethanks · 24/02/2024 15:47

Good riddance to him. Reform is hoping to grab pissed off Red Wallers. Surely they're not all daft enough to fall for the same shtick twice?

tobee · 24/02/2024 15:53

There's no sanction if an MP changes party is there? Easier to change to reform than for Lee Anderson to stand for reform in a by election. Useful for Reform to have an MP at Westminster for the rump of this parliament. Any money that may or may not have been offered probably would make the choice easier.

I don't have a subscription to the Telegraph. My Dad (!) just said that she'd written an article claiming Islamists now have control of the country, Starmer was in league with extremists & Labour took Hoyle hostage. I can't remember the rest.

I’ll see if I can make a link work.

I know the answer to this , so it's rhetorical but what is wrong with the BBC??!

Blimey that’s just awful! He wasn’t in any way suspended for criticising Khan! Total misrepresentation.

IClaudine · 24/02/2024 16:09

Thanks Blossomtoes, that works. What a diatribe. She might as well defect to Reform UK along with 30p.

cakeorwine · 24/02/2024 16:16

You just can't say anything now!

Free speech has consequences. I wonder if these were intended consequences?

Daily Mail has it

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13120985/Sadiq-Khan-Lee-Anderson-anti-Muslim-Tory-Islamophobic-racist-London-mayor.html

Lee Anderson has been suspended by the Conservative party after he refused to apologise for 'Islamophobic, racist' comments where he claimed that London Mayor Sadiq Khan was controlled by 'Islamists'.
A spokesperson for the party's chief whip Simon Hart said the decision had been made following the former Tory deputy chairman's 'refusal to apologise' for the remarks made on Friday.
Pressure had been mounting on Rishi Sunak to take action over the comments from the Ashfield MP, with Mr Khan saying the 'deafening silence' of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet amounted to condoning racism.

Top comment:

"Lee Anderson speaks as a voice for those who feel they are no longer afforded one in their own country."

Farage has called on Anderson to join Reform. 🙄

Anna Soubry has quite a thread on Anderson -

Lee Anderson lost the Labour whip as a Cllr on Ashfield DC. He was accused of racism following an incident w travellers. He was about to lose his job working for Gloria de Piero as her constituency manager (tax payer funded). Media might enquire as to why.

I hope he does. I don’t see why an invitation from newt face makes much of a difference but I’d prefer all those of that I’ll nailed their colours to the mast in the open.

Totally agree. Ditto Braverman and Jenrick.

Also totally agree Yy Jenrick, Braverman & all the other swamp inhabitants.

Good riddance Anderson

Now what about Truss, Braverman and Jenrick?

Apologies incoming?

Truss has seriously lost what little functioning brain cells she had, I really think she is mentally unwell.

I doubt they e ever apologised in their life and won't start now

Truss has seriously lost what little functioning brain cells she had, I really think she is mentally unwell.

Coincidentally I was wondering last night if Anderson was having some kind of prolonged breakdown.

But maybe they're both just taking the money? Angry

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 20:28

I think Anderson's actions are consistent with his political life to date.
For someone quick to suggest others flip flop he's certainly flittered around a number of different parties.

Truss isn't having a breakdown - she's just led by the IEA and loved power (assume that applies to many politicians of all stripes to be honest).

He is a racist and and is being sought by Reform to join the ranks.

It's an excellent post by Soubry.

I also applaud Baroness Warsi, who spoke so eloquently on Channel 4 news tonight.

However Braverman and Truss have to go.

Tory majority now almost half it was in 2019. Time to call a general election. Possibly before May.

cakeorwine · 24/02/2024 20:43

Laura K will be interesting tomorrow - if she dares to ask the right questions,

I wonder if the Minister on tomorrow is aware of what's happened - and will they have seen the comments by Truss and Braverman?

Sayeeda Warsi(Tory): "These are difficult & dangerous times... & the government... has individuals within it who are stereotyping & stigmatising British Muslims.... Lee Anderson is the tip of the iceberg... "

I'm sure they won't have had chance to read the papers by then! Too busy sticking to the plan.

I doubt Kuenssberg will ask whether Anderson could have kept the whip if he had apologised.

DuncinToffee · 24/02/2024 20:51

LK's guests tomorrow

Deputy PM Oliver Dowden
Labour's Lisa Nandy
Lib Dem leader Ed Davey
Estonian PM Kaja Kallas
Former cabinet minister Thérèse Coffey
ActionAid UK chief exec Halima Begum
Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham

That's a good clip of Warsi - she doesn't tip toe around. Jenrick, Braverman, Truss and Nick Timothy all getting a mention.

I follow Timothy on twitter out of nosiness - he's a Tory candidate in my home patch of west Suffolk - and I haven't forgotten his role with May and rejecting the single market.

pointythings · 24/02/2024 21:04

@Notonthestairs you're in my patch. God, I hope Timothy doesn't get in, but it's a bit of a forlorn hope.
