Really interesting, I hadn't noticed/realised that but now I will.

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 11:40

It's an interesting article. The Conservatives do use North London as a shorthand slur.

cakeorwine · 24/02/2024 11:40

It is fucking terrifying. I imagine this is what the 1930s felt like

But if you say that, people have a go at you.

AdamRyan · 24/02/2024 12:02

Thats part of what scares me. This post Brexit pugnacious "if you make people feel stupid it's your fault when they have a toddler tantrum" and complete inability to reflect on lessons from history.

AdamRyan · 24/02/2024 12:06

And right on cue, some dog whistles on the falling birth rate thread Sad

Cornettoninja · 24/02/2024 12:39

So many interesting articles linked to - I’m going to work my way through them. Thanks to all who shared Cake

Rishi is a fool if he thinks he can separate his version of the Tories from the rhetoric overflowing from the well known mouths of the party by turning a blind eye and not actively endorsing. Corbyn’s leadership only went one way and I’d like to think the public are well schooled in the danger of zealots now (wishful thinking maybe), and these people are fully wearing their colours proudly.

Corbyn will forever be labelled antisemtic and he’s well on his way to being forever labelled as a far right lunatic.

Sunak clearly condones Islamophobia, he's not exactly taking swift action on 30p flees comments.

Conservatives showing their colours again?

DuncinToffee · 24/02/2024 13:39

You would think he has learned from Starmer's Rochdale situation, staying silent is not a good look

London Mayor Sadiq Khan responds to Lee Anderson

"Racism is racism. I'm unclear why Rishi Sunak and members of his cabinet aren't condemning this...the message it sends is, Muslims are fair game when it comes to racism."

Quite. I was being slightly tongue in touch, but it's the other side of the same coin.

newnamethanks · 24/02/2024 14:08

Agree entirely with Sadiq's comment. Look in the mirror Tories. Muslims today, who tomorrow? You need to be careful who you get into bed with, you can pick up some very nasty contagions.

Absolutely. The silence is deafening.

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 14:41

Inaction is certainly a choice.

Sunak is weighing up whether he's got more to gain from Anderson's followers than he does from One Nation Tories.

Efacsen · 24/02/2024 15:05

Hooray hooray hooray!!

IClaudine · 24/02/2024 15:07

Oh, fabulous!

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 15:08

Good.

Although Truss will continue to plug her batshit deep state FT/ Economist conspiracy theories whilst needlessly looking to antagonise the current US government.

Piggywaspushed · 24/02/2024 15:09

Anderson suspended.

Piggywaspushed · 24/02/2024 15:09

I type too slowly!!

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 15:09

Braverman & Jenrick seem to be staying quiet.

IClaudine · 24/02/2024 15:12

Wouldn't it be interesting if 30p Lee's suspension ended up in a by election. It might be an early indicator of how the red wall will vote in a GE?

IClaudine · 24/02/2024 15:13

What exactly did Braverman say, does anyone know please?

Piggywaspushed · 24/02/2024 15:24

I know the answer to this , so it's rhetorical but what is wrong with the BBC??!

I don't have a subscription to the Telegraph. My Dad (!) just said that she'd written an article claiming Islamists now have control of the country, Starmer was in league with extremists & Labour took Hoyle hostage. I can't remember the rest.

Yep! Stick Ashfield on the by election schedule. There's plenty of company
