My teenager's think smirky face denotes you've had a thorough seeing to! 🙈

😳😱😳😱😬

My teen (adult teen as 19) has yet to critique my emoji use.

I'm beginning to think that's not a good thing as I'm probably unintentionally demoting a whole different meaning 🤣 (yes I do old people laugh!)

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 08:05

Anderson defaming Khan.
Truss smiling through Bannon calling Tommy Robinson a hero.
Braverman's comment piece in the Telegraph.

There's been a real theme emerging from the Conservatives over the last 48 hours.

And they certainly can't claim to be worried about people's safety.

I don't think Sunak understands why many voters are turning away from them.

Maybe he is in such an echo chamber that he is not listening to those voters who don't like the language of the Conservatives at the moment.

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 08:21

Amazing that the Conservatives would withdraw the Whip from Grieve/Gauke/Clark/Soames/Allen etc and not Truss/Braverman/Anderson.

Interesting article on GB News

GB News is being allowed to break impartiality rules, say senior TV figures | Ofcom | The Guardian

“Under the Broadcasting Code, politicians cannot act as a newsreader, interviewer or reporter in any news programmes unless, exceptionally, it is editorially justified. The rule is clear that this applies only to news content.
“Our rules apply equally to all broadcasters, and where we have cause to investigate, we publish fully reasoned decisions based on the evidence. At all times, we take into account the fundamental importance of freedom of expression and media plurality.”

What was Rees-Mogg doing at the recent by-elections?

"Appalling islamist marches" yet the Conservatives don't support a ceasefire so therefore yes, marches.
Fucks sake. Why is such rampant islamophobia acceptable?

Because they're not Jews and maybe none of them are rich friends of the Tories?

Before anyone thinks that was an antisemitic statement the two halves are not related. Darent use an emoji til we get the definitive guide from the teens of @AdamRyan

BIossomtoes · 24/02/2024 08:39

Rules? They’re just for little people, aren’t they? Who do we think we are to expect our illustrious Tory politicians to even know what the rules are, let alone abide by them? I hope GB News gets shut down once the Tories bite the dust.

In fairness to Shapps the media isn't covering the stories with quite as much energy as they have done alternative stories.
<need a sarcasm emoji>

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 09:20

The Times doesnt seem to have any coverage about Truss, Anderson or Braverman at all. That can only have been an editorial decision.

I suppose they are hoping it will all go away.

Instead there is just a rehash of who stories about who will be Sunak's successor. Maybe trying to woo currently unimpressed voters with the suggestion he won't last.

cakeorwine · 24/02/2024 09:33

From the article:

Iman Atta, director of charity Tell Mama, which describes itself as the leading agency on monitoring anti-Muslim hate crime in the UK, called the Tory MP's remarks "highly offensive, highly dangerous".

In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Ms Atta said the Mayor of London is subjected to many anti-Muslim attacks "on an ongoing basis", adding that it was important that politicians "send a clear message that anti-Muslim hate is unacceptable, as antisemitism is unacceptable in our country".

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 09:45

It was creditable that Javid commented very swiftly regarding Anderson but it would be good to see the PM & Conservative front bench disaasociate themselves.

Haven't seen any Conservative MPs commenting on Truss' batshit deep state stuff. Nor have they commented on her support for Trump. It really can't do much for our relationship with America if Tory politicians are so openly anti US government.

That former list were decent Tory politicians who were ostracised by Johnson of course.

The more they try to appeal to people with beliefs like his, the further they lose their appeal to other Conservative voters.

In the Mail as well

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13120569/Labour-Lee-Anderson-Tory-racist-Islamophobic-Sadiq-Khan-Islamists-London.html

And in the article:

Former Conservative chancellor and Home Secretary Sir Sajid Javid, who is of Muslim background but does not practice any religion, branded Anderson's remarks as 'a ridiculous thing to say'.

Conservative leader at London City Hall, Neil Garratt, also criticised Anderson, saying: 'The Saturday marches fuel both antisemitism and the fear of antisemitism. Many Jews no longer feel welcome in their own city, hence why I have repeatedly argued that the police should do more.
'But Islamists have not taken control of Sadiq Khan, and they are not running London.
'I have no shortage of criticisms of Mayor Khan as regular viewers will know, but he is not an Islamist, he is not in the pockets of Islamists, and I completely disagree with anyone who says otherwise.'

Former Conservative MP and Theresa May's ex-chief of staff Gavin Barwell slammed Anderson for his comments, tweeting: 'A despicable slur on @SadiqKhan and Londoners.

'In his first speech as PM, @RishiSunak said he would "unite our country". If he allows the likes of Anderson to spread hate and division like this, those words will be revealed as a sham.'

The DM comments are predictable - and they have been moderated in advance.

Calls for Lee Anderson to lose Tory whip for 'racist' Khan comments

Labour has called for Lee Anderson (pictured) to lose the Tory party whip after the outspoken MP made 'racist and Islamophobic' comments about London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13120569/Labour-Lee-Anderson-Tory-racist-Islamophobic-Sadiq-Khan-Islamists-London.html

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2024 11:24

So Anderson states politicians (presumably only Conservative politicians) should run the country's police forces?

Mail doesn't seem to mention that the London mayor doesn't have operational control of the Met.

Piggywaspushed · 24/02/2024 11:26

It really is just overt racism. Sunak needs to address the issues of Islamophobia (and indeed anti Semitism, lest we forget) in his party. He shouldn't be leaving it to others. The man simply cannot lea from the front (or anywhere, in fact).

I was reading something in a US paper yesterday about Sunak (and others) repeated 'North London' jibes at Keir Starmer and London Labour voters , and the thinly veiled anti Semitism of this. Was interesting.

AdamRyan · 24/02/2024 11:34

I've been reading/listening to too much about conspiracy theories recently and now I think Truss/Anderson know exactly what they are saying and its a deliberate appeal to a certain part of the electorate. The part that buy into the replacement theory/need for civil war. In the US threat of civil war has been quite powerful in influencing politics. Bannon of course will be well aware of it as its the same tactic used by Trump with the Capitol.

For Trump it looks like maybe he'll get back in after one term and when he gets in he will be unfettered as not even breaking the law has prevented him from being reelected. Maybe Truss/Anderson are relying on the same happening here. One term of Labour, then bring back Big Dog.

It is fucking terrifying. I imagine this is what the 1930s felt like Sad
