I heard someone say the post office drama could have been a documentary because there's not that much drama. But would it have got the same attention? Names like Toby Jones are a draw.

I really hope that jgw1 is OK. I miss their humour.

Starmer was an important part of Jeremy Corbyn's far left loony cabinet that got smashed at the last General Election. Starmer learnt from that to appear moderate, but he'll return to his roots at the first opportunity, they all do.

Hmmm.

Yes, well as it appears we need lived experience to understand that a Tory will promise you the earth whilst selling off pieces of your infrastructure and actively despising you, can’t say that I’m not ready to let someone disguising their extreme leftism have a bash.

I’d much rather that our politics was far more focussed on the centre and smaller parties had the opportunity to evolve, but as we don’t live in fairytale land I’m done with this hodgepodge of bare faced liars and people who misguidedly think they’re the best thing since penicillin.

Perhaps we could make a list of suggestions for future dramas for ITV to work on?

There are load of possibilities

Mordaunt launching her leadership bid and sporting a new look?

https://x.com/Haggis_UK/status/1760654592126206009?s=20

Penny Mordaunt: "We have seen into the heart of Labour's leadership, nothing is more important than the interests of the Labour Party... Keir Starmer frustrated our country getting the best deal possible when we left the EU... the Labour Party before country..."

Did she say that with a straight face?

Shock😵
I just watched that whole thing. Wow. I'm not on twitter but I'd hoped that sort of thing was illegal. Yuck.

Notonthestairs · 22/02/2024 20:53

I've just listened to the podcast.
It was very informative.

placemats · 22/02/2024 22:14

Badenoch lives to fight another day.

Mordant steps up to make what was basically a leadership speech.

Sunak remains a rabbit in the headlights.

The Tories are bankrupt morally and it's clear they all put themselves before the country.

AdamRyan · 22/02/2024 22:24

I'm so cross that they have basically shafted hoyle. Poor guy hasn't done anything wrong. Who is going to want to be the speaker now?

newnamethanks · 22/02/2024 22:43

And let's not forget Mad Lizzie currently delighting our American cousins with her ravings. I know our water is polluted but maybe it's worse than I thought? Something must account for the outbreak of lunacy in politics. The Tories are approaching peak group nuttiness and I've just bbc news, seen Simon Danczuk - disgraced ex Labour MP - now standing as a candidate in Rochdale by election, describe George Galloway - ex Labour MP also now standing in Rochdale - as a 'chancer'. Pots and kettles abound. I hope jgw1 is just taking a break from it and returns soon.

Johnson is again saying that the world will be safer with Trump in the White House.

Did he get gifted gold sneakers to go with the wallpaper?

L1ttledrummergirl · 22/02/2024 22:55

The SNP had been sounding like a credible party 2 years ago, now they just sound like a bunch of nutters again. Something I thought they were trying to overcome.

They are finished as a credible opposition, they could be powerful allies to Labour when they are in government, working with them to improve the country, and repairing their reputation for the future. But instead, they've chosen to battle with them instead. It doesn't bode well for tactical voting and by damaging Labour, they are helping the Tory cause. Labour is now battling on 2 fronts.

The petty point scoring we saw yesterday was disgraceful. I agree though that Hoyle shouldn't be made a scapegoat, and the majority of MPs seem to agree. The Letters I suspect are from the Tory factions and some SNP, people who are fighting for their political survival like rats in a sack.

Penny Mordaunt was wrong to walk out, and wrong to stand up parliament today to blame Starmer. I expect my MP to join in a debate, not spit their dummy out and leave because it's not going the way they want. That's dereliction of duty. They should have extended the debate if needed.

Absolute shit show.

AdamRyan · 22/02/2024 22:58

It is. Everyone has taken leave of their senses. I can't believe the Hoyle thing is even a story. It's disgraceful.
Never mind. When the AMOC goes that should focus some minds.

Truss doesn't like people on the Left. I don't think she understands that Democrats are not like Labour - from my understanding of US politics

Donald Trump back in the White House is good for Britain and the world, says Liz Truss | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

She told Express.co.uk: "First of all, they're prepared to fight, which I think is really important. And they understand the threat of leftists and that you can't triangulate these people when they're actually advocating terrorism, they're advocating communism, in some cases, anti-capitalism, and we have to take them on.
"So it's partly the attitude that I think is good, but also the very strong grounding in conservative principles.
"I want to we should be focused on core principles like national sovereignty, parliamentary sovereignty, liberty, small government, low taxes, belief in the family and the individual making decisions. So those are the types of principles I want us to see, as we talk more about about conservative conference."

I think I can see the difference between what I believe and her beliefs - I believe in fairness, opportunity and looking after others less fortunate as well - we are a part of society and are not just individuals out for ourselves.

And don't attack Kerni - even though she might have an issue with the truth.

Labour told to drop ‘Get Kemi Badenoch’ operation after PMQs hounding | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

Ms Badenoch refuted Mr Staunton’s claims on the floor of the house on Monday, meaning if she were lying she would be expected to resign or be sacked by the Prime Minister.

Sir Keir Starmer dedicated half of his questions at PMQs to asking Rishi Sunak whether he would repeat Ms Badenoch’s claim that no official, minister or department told Mr Staunton to delay compensation payments.

She later came under attack from Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, who criticised her refusal to meet with woke LGBTQIA+ charities, and has instead used her time as Equalities Secretary to focus on meetings with women’s rights charities.

Shadow Leader of the Commons Lucy Powell demanded to know how she could get answers about Ms Badenoch’s dispute with Mr Staunton, and whose recollection of that meeting is in fact correct.

Minutes later, Labour MP Liam Byrne added to the pile-on, criticising Ms Badenoch over the ongoing trade negotiations with Canada and asking whether “trade talks are going on in the Secretary of State’s mind, or whether they are happening in real life”.

Lee Anderson accused Sir Keir and Labour of “obviously running scared of Kemi, just as they were with Suella”.

He added: “It's obvious to me that Labour have a real problem with influential women in Parliament.

“What I want to know is why are Labour intent on attacking female politicians in our party.”

They went for Johnson in the same way - when he lied to Parliament and mislead us.

Maybe Labour just have a problem with politicians who lie and mislead?

Labour told to drop ‘Get Kemi’ operation after PMQs hounding

EXCLUSIVE - Ms Badenoch was on the receiving end of around seven attacking questions at PMQs this lunchtime. Allies have now slammed Labour for their barrage.

Yes, we shouldn't bad mouth these loons but feel sorry for them. And if Liz and Kemi - and Lee Anderson - were standing espousing their views in the pub on the corner while people point and laugh, I probably would. But they have insinuated themselves into positions of influence where gullible people take them seriously. Fortunately, we don't all have to do so.

Is anyone else starting to get wistful for the sunlit uplands of Square One? 😂

Penny Mordaunt has the cheek of several arses to imply that Starmer puts party above country! Where has she been for the last 14 years?

LittleBowSheep · 23/02/2024 08:01

What I don't understand is if Hoyle did what he did out of genuine concern for safety of MPs, then how is that a 'mistake'?

No rules were broken so why is he apologising?

It's politics.
All politics and optics - without thinking about the people involved

I can remember loads of different votes during the post Brexit debates on Brexit - and a lot of protests outside.

I wonder what would happen if MPs could vote secretly and electronically - so not even the Whips would know.

Notonthestairs · 23/02/2024 08:07

People do need to see how their representatives vote.
