People do need to see how their representatives vote.

Absolutely they do. It would be a huge erosion of democracy if MPs voted secretly. We need to at least attempt to keep them slightly honest.

How have we got to a position where a former PM is talking about needing weapons to "fight the left"? Shock

What is driving this absolute lunacy? I feel like it must be £££ but from who and why?

Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss delivers remarks during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2024 at National Harbor, Maryland, USA, 22 February 2024. The Conservative Political Action Conference is an annual political conference...

Conservatives need a bigger bazooka, Truss tells US right-wing event

The UK's shortest-serving PM was speaking at the US's biggest annual gathering of conservatives.

Notonthestairs · 23/02/2024 11:43

Truss is just one in a long line of UK politicians hoping to appeal for $ from Legatum/Heritage/Koch bros/Bannon.

DuncinToffee · 23/02/2024 12:56

At least she was shouting into an empty space going by the photos of the event

Bit of a u-turn here, guess they realised that removing the speaker isn't such a smart move after all

It’s now clear Downing Street is putting a protective arm around the Commons Speaker.

Shapps, Gove, Cleverly, Mordaunt have all had warm words. Line to take is he’s a “decent man”, Starmer to blame

Also Gov resisting calls to give time for a no confidence vote. So safe for now.

First comment also interesting about the Tories threatening to unleash hell on the speaker if he let Labour go first

DARVO everywhere. I am growing to actually hate them which I never used to feel. Bunch of lying, venal, self serving idiots.

I'm also getting increasingly frustrated with the "I don't like any of them", "they are all as bad as each other" lines. Angry

DuncinToffee · 23/02/2024 14:05

The commons thread is turning into a labour bashing bingo, signs of what is to come.

BIossomtoes · 23/02/2024 14:14

Definitely a sign of what’s to come. It’s indicative of just how desperate they are.

Yes going as far as to say this lot deserve another chance. I spat my coffee out at that one.

People who talk like that are similar to people who say "Biden is old, he slipped up again etc". These people don't support Trump but attitudes like these let extremists, such as Trump in. Biden may have made verbal mistakes etc but these issues do not compare with the prospect of another Trump term; who has lately made many, many verbal errors.

I can't take that post seriously. Has to be a wind up.

itsgettingweird · 23/02/2024 16:03

I'm all for chances. I'm all for a chance at change.

I'm not for another 5 years of the same shit from the same people when they've proven they don't have the capacity to bring positive change.

Someone else's chance to give it a go.

Notonthestairs · 23/02/2024 16:21

Flipping hell. The more I see of the Truss & Bannon's little chat the more I think Sunak should withdraw the Whip.

That might be her aim of course.

You are assuming Sunak is somewhat reasonable. I used to think that, until he didn't take the opportunity to ditch Rwanda when Braverman left. He's just as bad as the rest of them and probably fully supportive of chatting up Bannon 🤑

newnamethanks · 23/02/2024 16:51

It's horrendous @Notonthestairs , she is mad or simply opportunistic, perhaps both. I am bearing in mind a quote from Laurence Fox who explained his sudden transition to all things Right and Mad as "I'm getting a wodge of cash for this. I'd rather be rich and hated than poor and recently sacked by Asda". Those vile funders have deep pockets, these people are dangerous and edging closer to their goal all the time. At least they used to have the grace to pretend to be ashamed. It's not going to end well.

BestIsWest · 23/02/2024 17:34

Just listening to her on The Newsagents. Wow!

Notonthestairs · 23/02/2024 17:37

This snippet of Lisa Kudrow playing a republican that claims "conservative voices are being silenced" on multiple different platforms really made me laugh.

He didn’t actually need to give Braverman her job in the first place and could have ditched the Rwanda plan right at the beginning. Especially given she was sacked as Home Sec the first time.

If you can have a favourite part of the whole speaker debacle mine is the Tories threatening Hoyle by threatening to break convention and stand a candidate against him at the next election. That’s about as threatening as quietly whispering ‘boo’ at him.

DuncinToffee · 23/02/2024 19:12

I think my favourite is that the only thing that can guarantee a Tory victory is the Labour party exploding, an explosion is very nigh and only got prevented by Starmer's cunning manipulation.

Meanwhile Truss and Braverman are at odds on who is really running the country and Sunak is cosying up with Welsh hill farmers.

Still here.. thank you to all that contribute to these threads. I don't often post but this week has been off the scale of bat shittery!
I think the only person that benefited from the Commons fallout Wednesday is Kemi Badenoch, who will be relieved the pointing finger has moved from her direction. I can't say I am pleased about this, I don't think she comes across as a particularly nice person.
Then we have had Johnny Mercer ... then the latest madness of Truss- How on earth is she getting paid to be an MP for Norfolk and just playing self promoting games in America!
