None of the parties are coming out looking good so rather than playing the blame game they should start taking responsibility for their actions.

Agree. They all used Gaza as a political football yesterday.

British firms' exports are almost certainly bolstering Russia's war machine in Ukraine, Sky data analysis finds

51 signatures calling for Hoyle to go. Seems we are going to continue the circus today.

Hoyle has been useless as a Speaker and let the Tories run rings around Parliamentary procedure with not so much as a slap on the wrist. Not to mention them actually breaking the rules. Will be really annoying if this is the thing that causes him to lose his job.

Notonthestairs · 22/02/2024 10:29

Our public services are falling apart.

So if this is the most pressing issue for Parliament right now then I despair.

DuncinToffee · 22/02/2024 10:43

Here we go again

https://x.com/Gabriel_Pogrund/status/1760605911737937988?s=20

BREAKING IPSA has launched a full investigation into pensions minister and Blackpool North MP Paul Maynard.

The expenses watchdog is examining if Maynard "has been paid an amount under the MPs' scheme . . . that should not have been allowed."

Compliance officer Brigadier Jonathon Blair-Tidewell has already conducted a six-week initial assessment and will lead the probe into Maynard, who, we reported, spent taxpayers' money on the Tory Party and his own re-election.

Liz Truss has truly fallen through the rabbit hole

Civil service full of trans activists sabotaged my leadership, Liz Truss tells Republicans, according to the telegraph

(she is promoting her US book release)

I'm nearly speechless. Truss is either utterly barking or a woman with no principles at all who could run Kemi B to the finishing post in a race to be appointed First Liar. Please keep her America, we really don't need her back.

AdamRyan · 22/02/2024 11:52

Hmm. I am finding this idea that somehow transactivists have "captured" all our institutions and "stonewalled" them quite scary. It's like something out of doctor who and the Borg.

The last episode of Jon Ronsons podcast (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0h24lnp) was quite informative I felt. A bit of an insight into the kind of mindset that leads someone to believe these kind of things. Maybe Truss really believes this stuff? If not she's playing to an increasingly strange gallery.

Stop the world, I want to get off please.

Cornettoninja · 22/02/2024 11:54

Truss is either utterly barking or a woman with no principles

she’s both. She’s almost seamlessly transitioned from a thatcher cosplayer to a qanon figurehead.

its gobsmacking how she’s held her nerve enough to say with a straight face that murky forces are at work. she’s the murky forces.

Notonthestairs · 22/02/2024 11:56

Gosh there must be a lot of trans activists working on the stock market.

Cornettoninja · 22/02/2024 11:57

Maybe Truss really believes this stuff?

Truss has never and will never truly believe in anything. She’s an odd creation that’s probably built from the same stuff as Rishi, blank canvases that will display anything that the group they want to seek affirmation and acceptance from want them to. She doesn’t have a concept of consequence past the immediate gratification in front of her, people aren’t real to either of them, we’re fanciful notions that exist only on paper and in graphs.

The irony of funding Ukraine to blow up our own equipment.

there’s always money to be made in war I suppose, but it seems like it’d be cheaper and more efficient just to blow them up on our own territory. Like we do with trident.

Zonder · 22/02/2024 08:05

Her principles are often quite scary.

No one can doubt she has them though, we could debate whether they were scary or common sense.

DuncinToffee · 22/02/2024 12:24

The common sense group is a different fraction, Truss is popcon

I am backing remain as I believe it is in Britain's economic interest and means we can focus on vital economic and social reform at home.

Well this isn't settling down at all, Stephen Flynn has now had his meeting with Hoyle & double's down on his no confidence/calls for Hoyle to resign as a result. Seems to imply that Hoyle was in cahoots with Starmer.

TokyoSushi · 22/02/2024 12:55

Flynn live on Sky News just now.

Yet she's all too likely to be reelected.

TokyoSushi · 22/02/2024 13:00

Also, fun fact after looking him up in Wikipedia, his wife's name is Lynn Flynn! 😃

pointythings · 22/02/2024 13:00

ilovesooty · 22/02/2024 12:56

Yet she's all too likely to be reelected.

Probably true, but her majority will be slashed. She's my cousin's MP. Cousin is a staunch Tony, party member, has never voted anything else. She's enraged with the Tories and will not be voting at all. She is by no means alone.

DuncinToffee · 22/02/2024 13:13

Lindsay Hoyle issues an apology to the SNP and to the House

'I made a judgement call that didn't end up in the position where I expected it to. I regret it.

'I apologise to the SNP and I apologise to the House. I made a mistake. We do make mistakes. I own up to mine'

He says threats to MPs are 'absolutely frightening'

'I have a duty of care that I will carry out to protect people. It is the protection that led me to make a wrong decision. But what I do not apologise is the risk that is being put on all members. I do not want anything to happen again.'
