I agree @placemats . Starmer was very careful with his questioing re. Badenoch. Reminded me of his questioning of Johnson (in the partygate phase). I suspect there is more to come on this.

I am pleased that the Labour amendement has been allowed. Its the right decsion. Tory's arent happy at all.

TokyoSushi · 21/02/2024 14:07

Just trawling through Twitter to figure out what's gone on with the amendments... (was in a meeting)

Agree, Starmer was incredibly careful around Badenoch, something is afoot...

Cheguevarahamster · 21/02/2024 14:09

Tory MP William Wragg has just tabled an Early Day Motion of "This member has no confidence in Mr Speaker" after selecting Labour's amendment in addition to the government's one.

I am a gender critical feminist but I would expect her to meet groups representative of both sides of the issue. To adequately safeguard women and girls you need to know where the potential safeguarding failures could come from. But why am I expecting her to do her job properly- doh!

Quite!

Labour MP @BenPBradshaw highlights an apparent discrepancy between Badenoch claim to have “engaged extensively with LGBT groups” as equalities minister with his FOI (see below) suggesting she hasn’t met any and has instead just met two gender-critical groups

"discrepancy"

Well he can't actually call her a liar in Parliament but that's what she appears to be.

It seems that Sunak wasn't too enthusiastic in his support of her.

The truth and the sainted Kemi appear to be increasingly at odds with one another.

TokyoSushi · 21/02/2024 14:15

But all of this is pretty pointless really. Yes, you know how your MP will vote, but I'm not sure that there's going to be a ceasefire in Israel/Gaza just because the UK Parliament says so, sadly.

Literally said to DP this morning her "I haven't see any evidence that"...was Johnson-esque. Basically "prove I'm lying".
I'm guessing there is an almighty row to sack either Munby ("the blob") or Badenoch because Stauntons got the evidence.

I would love it so much if she was toast

Absolutely. She's unfit for public office.

Ok with breaking laws (international or otherwise) but god forbid they break convention.

countrygirl99 · 21/02/2024 14:27

I wonder if there is more correspondence waiting in the wings that will emerge if Mundby takes the rap.

Where the media uses a quotation from an MP which is defamatory and which he or she provided to them with the intention of it being published, both the media organisation re-publishing the quotation and the MP may be sued.

Well, quite. Feminism comes in so many different flavours. The likes of you and me aren't recognised as feminists by some because we prioritise issues other than the one about trans. Which is ridiculous.

I'm a feminist. But I find myself having to describe myself as an old school feminist!

I really don't understand what is going on with the hissy fits about the Speaker's decision.

I thought they cared about the people in Gaza

Literally playing politics. Indications earlier that Labour were going to whip their MPs to vote against SNP and many MPs were considering rebelling. The SNP and the Conservatives want Labour to face a rebellion to weaken them.

Putting the Labour amendment first means that Labour MPs don't have to rebel to vote for a ceasefire.

I think. I'll find a link, 2 secs

Me too! Very very strange! I'm not that old

Wasn’t Ed Davey not turning up to PMQs after the ITV documentary A.VERY.BAD.THING? Even thought he was looking after his disabled son.

L1ttledrummergirl · 21/02/2024 18:27

Just watching PMQs.

"So called European court or human rights" WTF.

What was the bollocks about going back into Europe with a socialist labour.

Sunak has no idea about sen in schools.

Starmer did well, Sunak stuck to the script and refused to actually answer the questions asked (no change there). His listening skills are non existent.

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/02/2024 18:27

What an absolute fucking shambles this ceasefire motion has turned out to be. The government have now withdrawn their amendment. So if the labour amendment gets voted on and passed the SNP wording gets changed and if they disagree they will have to vote against their motion.

Now they are asking the deputy speaker to suspend the house.

itsgettingweird · 21/02/2024 18:40

And someone's called a VONC or similar on Lindsay Hoyle.

Something tells me the Tory's are scared at how Starmer can lead and take control and are in full blown attack as defence mode.

I mean ..... Sod what's best eh?

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/02/2024 18:46

Now we’re having a vote on the house sitting in private. FFS. Of all the embarrassing circuses in the HoC since we stupidly triggered article 50 without a plan this is the worst. Over a humanitarian crisis.

At some point the SNP appear to have walked out. Not sure when.

I suppose in one way it’s good the Tories have started to realise that breaking parliamentary precedent is bad I guess. I won’t hold my breath that we will see some consequences for the long list of Tory MPs, including the current PM who have broken parliamentary rules.
