She's pretty categorically saying that it wasn't said, I'm sure the Sunday Times office is pretty wild now trying to find the evidence that it was, or maybe they already have it, or maybe she knows it can't be proven, or...

Why would The Times print that without triple checking everything?

The school phone ban is just guidance for headteachers isn't it?
No statutory authority.

As R4 pointed out this morning, this guidance is "After the horse has bolted" as almost all schools operate some sort of ban on MB usage already.
As the Head said who they interviewed, what they need is action on the SM platforms.

Seems that Keagan just wants it to look as if they are on the ball/taking action to safeguard our children.

AdamRyan · 19/02/2024 18:16

She's been a typical Tory in what she said. She's only said she hasn't seen the evidence anyone said that. And also that she is considering releasing the correspondence. More mulling and hoping it goes away.
Maybe Kevin had seen something and refused to lie to parliament.

This just popped up on my Twitter feed. The Liz Truss line never stops being funny. Popular conservatives 😂

Notonthestairs · 19/02/2024 19:19

Ah yes she popped up today to complain that 'the system' is rigged against conservative policies - which is also why they have been in government for 70 of the 100 years.

Definitely has the vibe of a 'media reveal' coming down the line proving that she did say it, and then she'll have to resign, we'll see...

She's too arrogant to resign.

I hope this affair finishes her off politically though.

Sunak Express article

Rishi Sunak talks to Express readers - I know it’s tough, but our plan will work | Politics | News | Express.co.uk

"Speaking directly to Daily Express readers, Mr Sunak promised significant progress is already being made on some of the biggest issues the country is facing, including rising numbers of adults shunning work."

"Mr Sunak, who was chancellor when the pandemic hit, said the economy is now heading in the right direction.
Although official figures put Britain into recession at the end of last year, across the whole 12 months there was growth."

"“The economy in spite of the predictions actually grew last year, debt is on track to fall to ensure we have financial security for our public services and for our grandkids.”" really - I think that needs looking at

"And because financial conditions have improved, we have been able to start cutting taxes."- really?

"Over tea and biscuits in the study Margaret Thatcher used as her main office, Mr Sunak told a panel of Express readers about his determination to stop people being given sick notes when they are capable of work.
Last year a record 2.5 million people were signed off, with mental health issues and long covid to blame.
The government is investing £2.5 billion in a Back to Work plan to help more than one million people with long-term conditions return to employment.
As well as increasing mental health support, it includes programmes that give people tailored support when they have been unemployed for a long period.
Mr Sunak said the welfare system must be “compassionate” but also “fair” to everyone, including people going out to work everyday.
He said: “We have got at the moment far too many people who are not working who should be working.
“So we are in the process of reforming our welfare system.
“We have got lots of people who are signed off sick who don’t need to be."

I am surprised he forgot to mention "woke"

It's that sort of sentiment that is why I haven't claimed Employment Support Allowance, even though I am entitled to it and it's contribution based.
I am only able to work about an hour a month, and even then I need a day to recover. By not claiming anything I avoid scrutiny and pressure to "prove" my illness all the time.

Wouldn't surprise if this is one of those times heats apps haven't been deleted 🤔

Her fan girls will still think she’s a saint.

VimtoVimto · 20/02/2024 08:11

Badenoch’s fan girls will see it as proof she is a threat to Sunak and this has been orchestrated to discredit her.

Autocorrect wanted to change Badenoch to Bad enough.

Nick Boles, former MP for Grantham is now advising the Labour Party. Mr Boles helped Lord Cameron prepare for office in the run-up to the 2010 election. Prior to that, he had served as Boris Johnson’s chief of staff while Mr Johnson was mayor of London.

David Cameron's government knew the Post Office had ditched a secret investigation that might have helped wrongly accused postmasters prove their innocence, the BBC can reveal.
The 2016 investigation trawled 17 years of records to find out how often, and why, cash accounts on the Horizon IT system had been tampered with remotely.
Ministers were told an investigation was happening.
But after postmasters began legal action, it was suddenly stopped.

That’s brilliant.

There is no feud, no imagined slight, no minor disagreement even, that she won’t pursue to the ends of the earth. She can never dream of saying sorry. She lives in a binary world of death or glory. There are no half measures.

IClaudine · 20/02/2024 09:14

rising numbers of adults shunning work.

Hate speech.

We have got at the moment far too many people who are not working who should be working. So we are in the process of reforming our welfare system.
“We have got lots of people who are signed off sick who don’t need to be."

No such thing as sick notes, so this is a lie.

He is a fucking weasel faced piece of shit, picking on the most vulnerable.

That John Crace piece is perfection.

IClaudine · 20/02/2024 09:15

Sorry. But reading that stuff from the Express just makes me want to cry.

BIossomtoes · 20/02/2024 09:20

It made me irrationally angry. Good thing my blood pressure is low because the red mist is descending often these days.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 20/02/2024 09:26

“We have got lots of people who are signed off sick who don’t need to be."

Is he saying that medical professionals are signing people off sick fraudulently?

DuncinToffee · 20/02/2024 09:27

I dunno, what might help people with poor health is a well run, well staffed medical service.

It's been very obvious from a number of threads over the last 10 days that the Conservatives are going to hold the disabled, students, carers, retired people responsible for the economy.

It's never the Government's responsibility.

DuncinToffee · 20/02/2024 09:30

Being able to pay for eating AND heating helps as well.

It's getting uncomfortably close to the "useless eaters" mentality, which makes me quite uneasy.

Don't forget the lavishly paid PE teachers who go on multiple exotic holidays and drive Porsches.

Jeremy Hun tried this already once - tried to tell doctors to issue fewer sick notes. They told him to fuck right off.
