Jobs you could never do

For me, it’s chefs. I am amazed at them. The absolute chaos, the hours, every detail that goes into getting a high quality meal out of the kitchen in as quick a time as possible, all the skills. They are actually truly incredible. I love watching things like Boiling Point, Burnt and The Bear and have no shame in admitting I couldn’t do that job.

What about you?

OP posts:
fightingthedogforadonut · 11/02/2024 18:40

Optician - eyeballs give me the ick....

HawkersEast · 11/02/2024 18:50

Pretty much every job except the one I do...haha! Definitely nothing with kids.
My DH is a chef, he'll appreciate your post OP!

Pollllo · 11/02/2024 18:52

A lot, couldn’t do caring work, couldn’t do anything that wasn’t wfh. Would hate something that’s very micromanaged.

BetiYeti · 11/02/2024 18:52

Cold-calling. I did a little bit in one of my old jobs and I used to dread it.

PieAndLattes · 11/02/2024 18:59

Anything to do with vermin. I couldn’t work for Rentokill or anything like that. Police, because the ‘hard lad’ culture wouldn’t suit me at all. Anything where I need a good eye for detail - banking or computing - I envy people who can be precise in their approach and actions, but I’m not one of them. Fire fighter - because you literally have to fight fires.

RootVegAndMash · 11/02/2024 18:00

Are you both veggies?

Because they wouldn't want to work in a slaughterhouse? Why is that relevant?

I thoroughly enjoy a good serving of any meat. I'd still hate to work in a slaughterhouse.

I very much enjoy applying a good peel off face mask but I'd also hate to have to work in the factory mixing and packing the damn stuff! Doesn't make me anti-face masks though 😂

I just think that if you eat meat, you should be man enough to see how it's slaughtered. But that's a whole different thread.

Duolingo · 11/02/2024 19:23

"seeing" and "doing" are quite different though...

ZenNudist · 11/02/2024 19:24

Many things:
Doctor or nurse- too squeamish
Vet- terrible with animals
Pilot - scared of flying
Teacher- no patience and don't deal well with noise.

WhereCanWeBe · 11/02/2024 19:26

Driving instructor.... I would be in a constant state of fear! I'm a terrible passenger.

XenoBitch · 11/02/2024 19:26

Care work, hospitality, working with customers, working with patients, working on the phone, admin stuff, working alone, working to a deadline.

I appreciate that covers all jobs.. and that is why I don't work.

Paw2024 · 11/02/2024 19:27

I never thought I could be a carer. When I lost my job I needed another one fast and that was my option
Hard at first but turns out I'm actually good at it. It's not my job now but I could go back to it if needed

Shivermetimbers13 · 11/02/2024 19:28

Loads of things. I couldn't be a pilot, I'm far too nervous.
I couldn't work in a factory, I can't bear being bored.
I couldn't do accountancy or work in a bank, I can't add 2 & 2 together and get the right answer.

BarelyLiterate · 11/02/2024 19:29

Any form of caring work or of working with children or animals in any shape or form. I haven’t got the patience, or the tolerance, or the empathy or the selflessness or any of the other essential skills. I would be absolutely useless.

I will stick with my spreadsheets full of numbers, data & charts. They don’t want anything emotional from me.

Flottie · 11/02/2024 19:38

Slaughterhouse. But I’m vegan haven’t eaten meat since I was 9.

Those also saying slaughterhouse better also not eat meat. When people ask me why I don’t I always say that I couldn’t kill the animal myself so why should I eat it.

TerriPie · 11/02/2024 19:38

Podiatrist - I hate all feet

Carer - not patient or caring enough

Teacher/Anything with children - Too snotty and too many aggressive parents who never accept little Tinkerbelle is a troublemaker.

Lifeguard - I get bored quickly and wouldn't pay attention

Pilot - I have no sense of direction, I get lost all the time even with Satnav

Dentist - having worked in many public facing roles too many people don't have a basic level of dental hygiene

dottiedodah · 11/02/2024 19:40

anything that involves cleaning public areas
anything in retail

Bobbybobbins · 11/02/2024 19:49

Lorry/bus driver
Army
Dentist
Carer for older people

franticfeb · 11/02/2024 19:56

Anything that involves smelling 'personal' smells - breath (dentist); feet (podiatrist); fannies (gynaecologist; smear tester; midwife; radiographer; vag waxer); bottoms (colonoscopist) - might have made that last job label up.

Exactly what I was saying. 👍👍

You and me both, Sister! 😂

Humans are gross.

Pickles2023 · 11/02/2024 20:06

Nursing/doctor/carer...i am a complete wet blanket. Any death, sorrow, pain people go through i end up distraught and a blubbering mess. I think i would end up very down.

Also helplines/call centres..i have Autism and cant read situations at the best of times, let alone when i am relying on a voice to know mood cues ect. I had to use phones previously and omg i would leave sweaty handprints on the phone from the sheer terror 😅

Mysterian · 11/02/2024 20:08

Window cleaner for skyscrapers. I can't even watch it on TV.

Hummusandstuff · 11/02/2024 20:13

Interesting that a lot of the jobs people (women?) find unpalatable are often very poorly paid.
For me. Miner. Elderly care. Porn actor. Sales.
