Jobs you could never do

For me, it’s chefs. I am amazed at them. The absolute chaos, the hours, every detail that goes into getting a high quality meal out of the kitchen in as quick a time as possible, all the skills. They are actually truly incredible. I love watching things like Boiling Point, Burnt and The Bear and have no shame in admitting I couldn’t do that job.

What about you?

Anything to do with human bodies, Doctor/ Dentist - total hats off to those who do these jobs.

crew2022 · 11/02/2024 18:09

Most of what others have said bar carer, office job, teaching.
I couldn't work in small spaces like a lift engineer or miner.
I would not be an optician as eyes make me cringe.

Dentist. 🤢

BrandyandGinger · 11/02/2024 18:15

Anything involving large vehicles, I'm not even good at parallel parking a small car. Dog groomer, I'm ok with dogs but wouldn't like getting up close with big ones that don't know me. I have bad circulation so wouldn't like a job where I have to stand in an cold environment.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 11/02/2024 18:17

Anything office based. Going to the same place every day, sitting at the same desk doing the same thing day after day.

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 11/02/2024 18:20

Carer or teacher.

I could work slaughterhouse though but not a butcher.

LuckyPeonies · 11/02/2024 18:23

Any job euthanizing or killing animals, i could not ever do
Any job dealing with babies or kids, not even for ££££££££
Medical pro of any kind, too much gross stuff to deal with
Cashier or customer service, frightful
Waitstaff
Call girl/prostitute
Mortician
Zoo keeper, i find zoos depressing though many of them are, of course, better than the old days
House cleaner, i read Maid by Stephanie Land & some of it put me off food. 🤮
Plumber, gross work
Law enforcement, too dangerous

whirlyhead · 11/02/2024 18:24

Arms dealer.

anything in the military.

both of which are probably growth areas and we should probably be encouraging our kids to go into these areas!

bibblebobbles · 11/02/2024 18:25

Accountancy / law / medicine

The most boring trio

mamaduckbone · 11/02/2024 18:25

Anything medical. I'm far too squeamish.

EspressoMacchiato · 11/02/2024 18:26

Anything that involves exposure to babies or children. Bleurgh.

The whole finance industry.

Retail.

Mummyofthewildones · 11/02/2024 18:27

Work in a nursery!

PossumintheHouse · 11/02/2024 18:27

Midwife. My anxiety would be sky high every single day.

Anything that required a strong grasp of mathematics.

Fairycreature · 11/02/2024 18:29

I couldn't work in a soft play. I always look at the staff with so much admiration. The noise! The smells! The parents!!

lollipoprainbow · 11/02/2024 18:30

Dentist 🤢

Chef was my initial thought, too.

So many things happening at once, so much pressure, so much could go wrong.

Growlybear83 · 11/02/2024 18:30

I could never work in a care home or as a carer in the community. Having seen what the wonderful caters who looked after my Mum and mother in law have to cope with, I couldn't do what they do. They have my very deepest admiration and gratitude.

Growlybear83 · 11/02/2024 18:33

I could also never work with children in any close capacity.

whatisforteamum · 11/02/2024 18:33

I'm a chef and I have done the long hours, short staffed and gone home late to do it all again.years of it and loved it.
It is stressful yet so rewarding and the camaraderie is fantastic even as a woman with all male team.
It teaches you resilience and stamina.

whatisforteamum · 11/02/2024 18:35

My nightmare would be nursing, bodily fluids long hours and sometimes deaths.
Too stressful for words.

TheaBrandt · 11/02/2024 18:35

Law is far from boring!

SinnerBoy · 11/02/2024 18:36

...but I still would not want to work in a slaughterhouse. To be surrounded by death and blood all day long does not appeal to me at all.

I understand; when we were kids, a near neighbour was a slaughterman and he stank. It never washes out properly, apparently.

LemonSocks · 11/02/2024 18:37

So, so many...teacher (or anything involving working with children), anything clinical/medical, carer, anything involving driving, sales, anything involving being outside in winter, anything involving the general public...basically I would never want to do anything other than a desk based job, and preferably one which is mostly WFH (which is what I do now).

Amazing how different everyone is!

iwannacoolrider · 11/02/2024 18:38

The police.. It must be so depressing sometimes.. I watched a documentary on the murderer/rapist David Fuller and the officer who had to watch the CCTV of the crime was on the brink of a breakdown.
I just don't think I could handle that, must stick with you.

RubyRed55 · 11/02/2024 18:39

Phlebotomist
I have a completely unexplainable fear of veins!
