Jobs you could never do

For me, it’s chefs. I am amazed at them. The absolute chaos, the hours, every detail that goes into getting a high quality meal out of the kitchen in as quick a time as possible, all the skills. They are actually truly incredible. I love watching things like Boiling Point, Burnt and The Bear and have no shame in admitting I couldn’t do that job.

What about you?

Anything medical, customer service, being indoors all day.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 11/02/2024 20:22

Teacher I think. I just don't think I could cope with children all day long.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 11/02/2024 20:23

We're watching Trgger Point - so, bomb disposal officer.

DistinguishedSocialCommenator · 11/02/2024 20:25

Podiatrist. Couldn't get that close to other people's feet, even before doing anything to them.

100% agree. I am not a fan of looking at my own feet. Could not look at anyone else's.

menopausalmare · 11/02/2024 20:53

Anything that involves vomit. Or heights. Or both.

Heatherjayne1972 · 11/02/2024 21:23

Secondary school teacher
police
anything foot related
no thanks

I am however a dental hygienist - you do need to be ok with gross things. Blood spit plaque pus etc It’s not for the faint hearted

Custardcreamsandbourbons · 11/02/2024 21:28

Prison officer

the80sweregreat · 11/02/2024 21:30

Carer in a home for the elderly. Kudos to those people.
I did work as cleaner / pot washer once and lasted four months before quitting. Such a tough job and nasty managers

When I did a tandem skydiving experience, the instructor said they had to get used to dodging upward flying vomit from the tandem passengers

I just think that if you eat meat, you should be man enough to see how it's slaughtered. But that's a whole different thread

'Man enough' to see how it's slaughtered is a world away from working in a slaughterhouse which is what the thread is about.

I'm fully aware of how animals are slaughtered. In terms of some smaller animals (fish, rabbits, chickens, pheasants) I've seen it close up. As have dc.

Still wouldn't work in a slaughterhouse. Still intend to keep eating meat.

Emily1583 · 11/02/2024 21:58

I couldn't work in an abattoir.

Also a teacher. Feel that's an increasingly difficult job these days.

TheBeeHives · 11/02/2024 22:39

James bond, personally i dont think id cut the mustard as a field officer.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 11/02/2024 22:53

Could not teach. I love my children but would happily put them on eBay some days, let alone other people’s.
Could not work in an abattoir. I could butcher the meat but not do the killing.
Anything involving heights
More a where than a what, but anywhere a bit woo. I’d freak myself out

Surprising to see carer mentioned several times. I don’t do it now but it’s one of the most satisfying roles, albeit under appreciated and under paid. Although I appreciate the differences is the point of this thread
