Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

Why on earth would I be unnerved? My own dad had prostate cancer recently, that was unnerving. Upsetting, even. Thankfully it was caught early and he seems to be doing well.

Someone I've never met having cancer - well I'm sad for them and their family, it is horrible. But it has absolutely no bearing on my life at all. If he does succumb then William will become King, and that will also have no bearing on my life.

Unusualactualname · 06/02/2024 13:13

Yeah I'm unnerved - by the prospect of spending obscene amounts of money on a state funeral, followed by obscene amounts of money on a coronation. They are anachronisms, the lot of them, and the sooner we get rid of them the better.

NewYearNewNameOldMe · 06/02/2024 13:14

Getting a cancer diagnosis must have been a shock on a personal level and raised constitutional questions.

He commenced outpatient treatment yesterday and unless it's every weekday it's most likely chemo.

No matter how luxurious his private health facility is, the drugs they put in his veins will have the same effect on him as any cancer patient and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. For someone on their 70s it's going to be a gruelling treatment. I hope it has a really positive effect, for his sake. The crown is a separate issue.

When I read the news I imagined Queenie saying what poor form it was to get cancer so soon, considering how she'd managed to sail through decades of reigning til her final days. I'm sure he'll be ok, but I do think he should abdicate.

Why should be abdicate? Lots of people diagnosed with cancer manage to work, recovery and go on with their lives. He's hardly hauling crates around a supermarket in nmw

Butterdishy · 06/02/2024 13:19

He's an old man. I have sympathy for them as a family, but personally, I don't care in the slightest.

feathermucker · 06/02/2024 13:19

The Royal Family have nothing to do with my sense of wellbeing whatsoever. I reserve my concern for people experiencing genuine suffering: not a highly privileged man who is undoubtedly getting the best treatment possible. I sympathise with anyone suffering from cancer, but the disparity between the treatment wait times and Charlie boy is mad.

LadyKenya · 06/02/2024 13:19

No. There is no reason for me to be unnerved regarding this.

toomanyleggings · 06/02/2024 13:20

I hope he’s going to be ok and goes on to have some more good years like I would with anyone. Telling the public about his diagnosis is sensible. For a start it’ll soften a few hearts towards him. He doesn’t enjoy quite the same warmth as the queen did.

Wow!! Harry is an attention seeker for visiting his father, who has just been recently diagnosed with cancer? But we should feel your "pain" for being unnerved by a cancer diagnosis of someone you're not even related to, presumably never met and will never meet. 🤣🤣🤣

He had an operation on his prostate last week and this week they announced cancer. It’s almost certainly prostate cancer which almost all men his age have.

I imagine he will be fully recovered, having received the very best of healthcare, by the summer.
Do you not think these people have access to regular, comprehensive screening programmes?

They've said it's not prostate cancer.

Crikeyalmighty · 06/02/2024 13:24

I'm not a monarchist in any sense but some people on here are plain nasty- I appreciate when things are so very shit here it's easy to feel little empathy with a rich old fella who has access to quick treatment in nice surroundings and not worrying about his job- but the treatment is still gruelling, it's the same treatment and I feel for anyone of any income and age going through this horrible and very worrying situation and treatment

TomatoketchupfromMandS · 06/02/2024 13:24

As someone with an advanced cancer diagnosis I do welcome the fact that the King chose to be open about his diagnosis. Cancer is a great leveller unfortunately. But I do agree that your post is unnecessarily dramatic OP & making it all about you. Basically anyone can get cancer & fortunately for Charles he’ll have access to the best possible healthcare & therefore outcomes.

JanewaysBun · 06/02/2024 13:25

The Queen and PP always seemed to be very healthy and seemed much less old than KC has for a couple of decades now. And he is now an old man so im not very surprised, tough for his family though

Exactly. Honestly some people are daft.

Sooner than anticipated? I’m pretty sure we all know there will be another coronation fairly soon, cancer or not.

CreateHope · 06/02/2024 13:28

What affect does it have on your life? Literally none. I don’t like him but I don’t wish him ill will - I just don’t care. Charles didn’t care when my dad died so 🤷‍♀️

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 06/02/2024 13:29

No.

People have cancer all the time and while I realise it is an issue for them and their families I do not have the head space to worry about them all. I am, however, concerned for the person in my family who is undergoing cancer treatment.

Charles Windsor has nothing to do with my life so I am no more "unsettled" by his illness than I would be of another random elderly person I had never met.

Not in this short a time though. The Queen and Prince Phillip lived into their 90s!

What a lot of bitter posters on this thread!

  1. I have been diagnosed with cancer. Saw GP on Friday, diagnostic tests on Tuesday. Consultant seen Thursday and treatment started Friday. So same timescale as Charles, but NHS.
  2. My daughter flew back from Japan - is she just an attention seeker like Harry? Or is she allowed to be worried about her mum?
  3. My son drove down from Newcastle. Presumably not attention seeking as only a couple of hours?
  4. I have BUPA but the consultant advised that it would bring no benefit in my situation other than better food if I had to be admitted for treatment. It wouldn’t bump me up the already quick treatment plan
EdgarsTale · 06/02/2024 13:33

It will be unsettling for a lot of people. There’s a lot of negative news at the moment & this adds to the list. As a PP said, the Queens death impacted a lot of people negatively, especially older generations.

Oh please, do yourself a favour and never refer to yourself as a 'subject' again!

And 'American witch' - what has she actually done to you to deserve your vitriol?

tinytemper66 · 06/02/2024 13:35

No. Why would I feel unnerved? He isn't a relative. He is someone I see on TV every once in a while.
