Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

I'm unnerved about the amount of money another funeral and coronation will cost.

DyslexicPoster · 06/02/2024 19:18

I feel really sad for him. I know he is old etc but let's face it, it's been a shit few years for him. I can feel empathy for rich and poor humans.

I did feel weird when the Queen died. Now that was a bit unnerving as A) I have a science degree but a bit of me thought she was immortal b) I was shocked really how moved by her death I was. I'm no royalist by far, but neither am I republican. Just felt like a bit of a death of a era.

She was a good one overall.

I think most people would travel to visit a parent with a new diagnosis of cancer - regardless of how "serious" the diagnosis is. Given he (Harry) has the funds and private travel available he can make that journey much quicker than your average Joe.

And maybe KC asked him to come now

PlipPlopChoo · 06/02/2024 19:24

Nope

Speak for yourself. I don't look up to either of these demographics, or indeed to anyone much.

Yes, it was a very odd claim to make.

BeverForget · 06/02/2024 19:32

One the one hand, fuck all on the TV for a week - on the other, two bonus bank holidays.
I am ambivalent.

While I feel sorry in the sense I would with anyone who has this diagnosis, I think it’s time for the monarchy to go.

Inclined to agree with this. Three core members of the RF have basically been forced out of action for months (remains to be seen if William resumes more duties). If after Easter, the general public realises that their absence has made no fucking difference to anyone's lives, then why even continue???

On a personal level, if they are no longer Royal then they're also absolved of the responsibility to inform the public about their every move. I'm sure Kate would much prefer to be a civilian these days, which ensures her total privacy and zero press interest in whatever health issue she's recovering from.

anon666 · 06/02/2024 19:40

Not at all. People are living longer means more people getting cancer and lots of post-cancer survivors.

It's not a death sentence, he might clear it, come out the other side and live to be 100.

PurpleFlower1983 · 06/02/2024 19:45

I feel sorry for him and his family but I’m not unnerved. I was unnerved by the queen’s death because she had been a constant in literally everyone’s lives for years. It’s not the same.

Speak for yourself. I don't look up to the House of Windsor, celebs in magazines, politicians, musicians, actors, the Pope, or the man in the moon.

I feel sorry for anyone with cancer who has long waits on the NHS and money worries.

This.

OpalOrchid · 06/02/2024 19:59

Why would anyone look up to the Royals? Charles was a cheat for a start.

I don't agree. Most posters are being respectful and are discussing the OPs overreaction to someone she doesn't know receiving a cancer diagnosis.

I think that in general this is the same group of people. It isn't about the monarchy or the individual who is unwell, it could be any celebrity. They just make it about themselves. They're unnerved, upset, anxious... It's all about them. I do wonder if they have a similar reaction to neighbours who they see in the street, but don't really know, dying or being unwell.

My feeling too. I lost my dad to cancer, after he had been turned away three times from his GP, telling him his pain was just back ache from doing too much gardening. Had they caught it sooner, he may still have been with us. I’m guessing King Charles had no such issue, and that he will receive excellent treatment and follow up. The NHS is so crap atm, it makes me feel angry that there’s never been as much a gap between the rich, who can afford private healthcare, against those who have to fight for every single scrap of care and attention from the NHS. It’s obviously sad he has cancer - I wouldn’t wish it on anyone, but I feel sad that not everyone will be as lucky that their cancer was found quickly.

I am so sorry about your dad 💐

Frances0911 · 06/02/2024 20:08

I've wondered for a while if he was a drinker, as he's very red in the face. His red puffy hands also indicate health issues, possibly cardiac, vascular or lymphatic?

I'm so sorry about your dear Dad. Your post is spot on 💐💐💐💐💐

OP, I thought a "Big Job" was a euphemism for a pooh.

That's as much headspace as I gave your handwringing post.

Mitherations · 06/02/2024 20:13

You don't crown a 73 year old man King with longeivity of reign in mind.

The only thing I feel unnerved about is a potential £250 million pound farce to see him off and replace him.

suchfabulousfun · 06/02/2024 20:16

I feel as you do OP. Let's hope The King recovers well soon.
