Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

Just as long as H&M dont end up as King & Queen, it will be fine it would never happened. However, I bet some of the hard die republicans would suddenly love the monarchy.

No - the point about being a republican is that you don’t want a monarchy. So your post makes no sense.

WhatWhereWho · 06/02/2024 18:36

Why on earth would you feel unnerved?

Ap24 · 06/02/2024 18:38

Fullfatandfortyplus · 06/02/2024 18:30

Yes I know what you mean and I feel the same. It’s too soon for William to be King I don’t think he’s ready. Charles has been around for 75 years - so most people’s whole lives. It’s too soon after the Queen. I just hope he is ok and has a speedy recovery.

You don't think he is ready? For what exactly? And how old was the queen when her father died?

You do not understand what Republicanism is do you?

I feel sorry for anyone diagnosed with cancer

What has unnerved me is the coverage. ITV news has just said that hopefully this wi reduce the "stigma" around cancer. WTAF

No OP, it is possible to survive cancer when treated early! We've no need to bury the King and appoint William as king just yet.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 06/02/2024 18:48

No, I'm not at all unsettled by this. I wish the king and his family well, as I would any other cancer patient, but I don't know him so I'm not personally affected by it.

I'm much more unsettled by the millions of people on NHS waiting lists whose cancers may be left undetected until it's too late.

BestieNo1 · 06/02/2024 18:53

I gave him 3 years on the throne when he took it on.
Seemed obvs to me.
His physical age is much older than his chronological age to me.

IloveAslan · 06/02/2024 18:54

What is wrong with some of you??? He's been newly diagnosed with cancer and you are already speculating on a funeral.

If this is your reaction to a cancer diagnosis I would hate to have you as family/friends. Get a grip!!!

LastnightIDreamedofManderley · 06/02/2024 18:54

Why would I feel unnerved? Strange question

pinkstripeycat · 06/02/2024 18:57

What on earth do you think will happen OP?
If William takes over then he does. The Queen unexpectedly became the Queen at 25 years old and she was fine. William is in his 40s. It’s not really as if he’ll do the job alone. He has a whole team around him and has been trained all his life for the job.

He also won’t struggle because his wife has had surgery. He’s a grown man.

😂

spookehtooth · 06/02/2024 19:00

No concern whatsoever, it's propaganda. They only shared it for the purposes of promoting and sustaining support for their privileged position, which took a substantial dent following Elizabeth's death

User135644 · 06/02/2024 19:00

No but then i didn't wail on the streets when Diana died either. I don't know Charles or particularly like him (Jimmy Savile enabler) but wish him well at least in his recovery.

Or real life could put it into perspective and the grief vultures could blow their candles out.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 06/02/2024 19:02

I honestly couldn’t care less about the royal family, which is why this should have stayed in that topic so I didn’t have to read it.

cassy16 · 06/02/2024 19:02

whilst we all have human empathy, No!!

I don’t think anyone is unnerved or worried about losing one figure head for another figure head

AGoingConcern · 06/02/2024 19:04

No. I don't feel any different than if I heard any other wealthy 75 year-old stranger had cancer - impersonal compassion for their loved ones as fellow human beings.

Yeah, odd choice of words there.

They could've said he wants to be honest and open so people can see it can happen to anyone, or similar, and that he reiterates his message from last month that he hopes to encourage other older men to come forward for screening. Would've been much better to present it as an awareness raising thing.

sofagofa · 06/02/2024 19:08

LoveSandbanks · 06/02/2024 11:58

He had an operation on his prostate last week and this week they announced cancer. It’s almost certainly prostate cancer which almost all men his age have.

I imagine he will be fully recovered, having received the very best of healthcare, by the summer.
Do you not think these people have access to regular, comprehensive screening programmes?

They have already said it’s not cancer of the prostate.

Kaz40s · 06/02/2024 19:08

I don't like to hear of anyone being diagnosed with cancer but feeling unnerved by it, absolutely not. This info will not affect my life in the least. These are people I don't know nor particularly care for imo

TotalAbsenceOfImperialRaiment · 06/02/2024 18:06

Fit or ready? He's forty and has been in active training for the role for at least 20 years. How much practice does a person need to wear a fancy hat and pose for the stamps?

Precisely.

Ozzbozz20 · 06/02/2024 19:10

I’m suspecting it’s bladder cancer as the urethra runs through the prostrate and makes me wonder if it was identified during surgery/ scans on prostate which could have identified shadow/ growth on scan nearby. All speculation of course but they confirmed it wasn’t prostate cancer.
