Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

Harry is thanking the gods for the opportunity to get back in with the RF since he and Me-again have discovered that they have shot their "tell-all" bolt and have no creative talent to offer, and that their only currency is their connection to the RF.

The only currency for any of the other members, is that they are, you know part of the royal family.....🤨

I feel for the family. Cancer is a bitch.

On hearing the news though, my mind automatically went to Nostradmus' vision that he would not be king for long.

My thoughts went to the Nostradamus prediction too… Seems like he could be right.

Although he also predicted it would be Harry who would be king & not William…

Overtheatlantic · 06/02/2024 15:46

I’m can’t imagine William is ready or fit to be king. And Charles will be aware of that.

I think it’s sad but then it is for anyone who unfortunately gets cancer. At least he can access immediate treatment. If everyone could instead of navigating the shitshow that is the NHS then I think people would be more interested.

SloaneStreetVandal · 06/02/2024 15:49

For me its just another reminder of what a scourge cancer is. And that it doesnt discriminate. Charles at least has had a good 75 years.
The bastard that is cancer takes lives that have barely begun.

The sheer amount of people on here saying they couldn’t give a shit about his cancer diagnosis.

It’s all very childish.

You’re talking about a human being. Yes he’s rich, pampered and somewhat shielded from the realities of life but he’s not a bad person and he has done some good in this world.

You can hate the monarchy and still have basic sympathy for another human - he’s not Hitler or Putin is he?

Very silly.

I don’t think it’s that people don’t give a shit. If you yourself, or a loved one have had a cancer diagnosis and waited so long for NHS treatment that it has impacted the chances of survival, being constantly bombarded with news of someone so privileged that they’ve had a diagnosis and started treatment within a week or two, isn’t exactly going to sit well is it ?

I feel unsettled by the headlines this week that death rates from cancer in this country are worsening because of delayed diagnosis and treatment thanks to Tory destruction of the NHS. Of course, this doesn't apply to the king, who has the luxury of early detection and immediate treatment.

I feel unsettled by the prospect of the state forking out billions on another state funeral and coronation, should he not recover. As the news comes in that there is a crisis in child health due to the cost of living and the rapidly widening gulf between rich and poor. All the while, infant mortality rises, under-fives suffer poor health and tooth decay and another generation grows up crushed by poverty. But all of us are expected to feel concern over an extraordinarily wealthy and protected family facing illness and loss just as all of us do, safe in the knowledge they'll never have to wait months to see a doctor or have to pull out their own teeth as no dentist is available, or worry about getting paltry sickness benefits to keep a roof over their family's head.

Excellent post

Cancer is an absolute bugger for anyone who gets it and it's obviously worrying for his family and friends.

Don't think it makes a blind bit of difference for the UK as a whole though - the next generation of that super-special-better-than-everyone-else family is always waiting in the wings.

No

Excitedannie · 06/02/2024 15:53

I must admit that yes, I do but I can't actually pinpoint why!

He was never going to be kin g for long! He’s 75. Even 5 years would be surprising.

Of course that's their only currency, but most of them haven't deliberately blown up their own bridges. BTW I am not in any shape manner or form a royalist. I merely observe.

Everyone I know who has been treated for cancer my own mother included started treatment within days. I know a child diagnosed with a brain tumour at 3 after going to the doctor's with a bad headache. She even went to America for proton beam Therapy. The NHS covered all costs for treatment travel and accommodation. They raised the money so her dad and sister could go. That child started secondary school in September and doing amazing.

IHateLegDay · 06/02/2024 15:57

Honestly, it doesn't affect me at all.
On a personal level it's shit for him and cancer is scary so I hope he makes a full recovery BUT I feel the monarchy is outdated and I couldn't care less about any of them if I tried.

Queen Elizabeth became Queen at age 25 out of the blue & she managed.

William will be fine!

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 06/02/2024 15:59

I'm more concerned about why nobody is helping the Palestinians? I've never seen anything like it in my lifetime. That's what we should be concrened about.

Sworntofun · 06/02/2024 15:59

@Wetblanket78
Genuinely so pleased to hear that. At least there is good practice in some places. Sadly that is not replicated everywhere. Amazing that the 3 year old child with cancer beat it 😊 and is doing well at well at high school. We need more good news stories.

Well considering Queen Elizabeth lived to 96 and served right up until she died. I was expecting him to be king for at least 10-20 years. The Queen mother lived until 101.

Onthebusallday · 06/02/2024 16:02

Ah, another excuse for Harry and Meghan bashing.

Stay classy, people.

Myotherusernamewastakenagain · 06/02/2024 16:02

Not at all. While I wish him no harm I don't give a monkeys about a stranger from that parasitical family.

dayswithaY · 06/02/2024 16:04

@Rosscameasdoody I was diagnosed with early stage cancer a few years ago and I was treated very quickly on the NHS, all good now. So I’m lucky, I appreciate so many people aren’t.

I just don’t get why people have to act so heartless towards him. He hasn’t asked for blanket coverage on the news, he probably doesn’t even want the attention.

Blame the media not someone who’s just had devastating news.

Honestly if he's not ready at 40+, he won't ever be. It might not be HIS ideal time with the kids so young, but he's seemingly got a stable marriage with a suitable wife, secured heirs, etc. if not now, when?

Littlebutloud · 06/02/2024 16:04

No. More unsettled by the Tories fucking up the NHS so ‘normal’ people with cancer have less chance of a good outcome.

Establish what position in the family exactly ? He gave that up when his pushy wife convinced him to give up his royal duties and take up grifting for a living.

You think his Dad intends to disinherit him? I doubt that
