Does anyone else feel unnerved by the news about King Charles?

Yes I know this belongs in the Royal section but more traffic here for people feeling like I do.

King Charles has cancer, I am sure William is wondering if he will become King sooner than he anticipated. It makes me wonder too if Kate will be okay due to her recent surgery - William really needs her by his side if he is going to take on the Big Job.

Harry rushing home feels bad to me. I mean, it's good that he is coming to see his dad but it makes me feel as though it's serious - I just hope, hope it's not pancreatic cancer - but I just don't have a good feeling.

The Queen's only been gone 16 months. I feel out of sorts. Anyone else?

He had an operation on his prostate last week and this week they announced cancer. It’s almost certainly prostate cancer which almost all men his age have.

I imagine he will be fully recovered, having received the very best of healthcare, by the summer.
Do you not think these people have access to regular, comprehensive screening programmes?

Not prostate cancer - they made that clear. It was found during surgery. And where did you get the idea that ‘almost all men his age’ have prostate cancer ? That’s bizarre !!

'mystical connection between monarch and subject" 😂

Thank you for the best laugh I've had today.

RhubarbGingerJam · 06/02/2024 15:23

No - though did feel that with Queen's death.

Though it does seem to be dominating new cycle more than I expected - I think it will have minimal impact and they have announced how they are planning round it.

Not at all.

Ilovemyshed · 06/02/2024 15:26

No. The Royals have no impact on government and the economy and Charles was never going to be a king that reigned long.

To be honest it will do their popularity a favour if Wills does become King I think, but tough luck on them and the young family. Shame that Harry went bad as he could have beefed ip the younger Royals a bit.

What actually do they add though? Pomp for tourism and a few ribbons.

It must take up so much emotional energy being a hate-filled cynic.

Nope, scarcely any energy at all. One doesn't need Hate to be a cynic.

CombatBarbie · 06/02/2024 15:26

I feel for the family. Cancer is a bitch.

On hearing the news though, my mind automatically went to Nostradmus' vision that he would not be king for long.

Rosscameasdoody · 06/02/2024 15:27

I don’t think the fact that Harry is rushing home means that the situation is anything other than has been reported. He’s a drama llama and going on past evidence, he’ll be anxious to see how he can manipulate the focus onto himself and make it all about him rather than his father.

Scalby · 06/02/2024 15:28

I think Harry is coming back to see his father but also to establish his position within the family. He knows if anything happens to HM everything goes to William, the brother who isn't exactly happy with him right now.
I don't believe Harry and Meghan have the earning potential to live their lifestyle going forward. If he is permanently cut off from Royal money I can't see it ending well for them.

Jioyt · 06/02/2024 13:21

Wow!! Harry is an attention seeker for visiting his father, who has just been recently diagnosed with cancer? But we should feel your "pain" for being unnerved by a cancer diagnosis of someone you're not even related to, presumably never met and will never meet. 🤣🤣🤣

Its like those people who wailed at William and Harry when Diana died that they were so upset that their mum died. Someone they didn't know and had no effect on them, wailing and carrying on in the faces of two children who had lost their mother.

Why shouldn't Harry go and see his ill father? No one knows what the conversation between Harry and Charles was, or how often they have been in touch.

NewFriendlyLadybird · 06/02/2024 15:31

No.

Bracksonsboss · 06/02/2024 15:33

I’m not in the slightest but bothered.

Why "she"? She is one of two parents. They both have a lot of help.

Exactly, I wasn’t really sure why William had to cancel all his appointments while she was in hospital recently. It’s not as though he had to single-handedly do the school runs, juggle the shopping, get down and dirty with the cleaning , dog walking and all the childcare etc - and he was sure as little green apples not sitting by her bedside mopping her brow and making up for the deficiencies of NHS personal care. By all means a day or two when she came home and was still sore, but he was off for weeks. Maybe I am doing him a dis service and he was suffering badly from the newly identified Munchhausens by Marriage as gloriously detailed in another thread. I would have had more respect for him if he had carried on with his planned duties like most normal parents would have done . Looks as though Camilla is made of stronger stuff, but then she is a woman and brought up to KOKO.

Lucytheloose · 06/02/2024 15:37

We got through two world wars and a pandemic, so we can get through this if we just hold our nerve.

moomoomoo27 · 06/02/2024 15:39

Harry on his own, no.

But.

That plus the news reporting that Camilla's response to being asked how Charles was as "He's doing his best."

Plus not yet revealing what type of cancer it is (despite transparency about everything else).

And only revealing the news in the evening post stock exchange close.

Makes me think he's not going to be carrying on for years.

Establish what position in the family exactly ? He gave that up when his pushy wife convinced him to give up his royal duties and take up grifting for a living.

No, why?

Camilla spent all her time with Charles when he was in hospital for something not considered serious at the time. Kate's thing obviously is serious.

This is a very interesting point. I suppose subject to what Charles's will says about money left directly to Harry, that once Charles dies, he will be totally dependent on William chosing to throw him a financial bone - which would be completely in William's gift or not.

If he and William have badly fallen out (and W thinks H hurt his father/grandm/grandf plus doesn't like Meghan and not keen to fund her), he may be inclined to pare down that budget - not out of malice but that if he has disrespected the family and institution and chosen to lead a commercial life that's what he should do.

So I suppose if H thinks his father could die, he's bound to be keen to make sure his position is shored up in his father's will.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 06/02/2024 15:42

My husband being diagnosed with terminal cancer at 38 and dying 3 months later was unnerving. An elderly gentleman in his 70s who is no relation to me I don’t even find it to be news. I wish him well but it’s his own personal business and that if his families.

dayswithaY · 06/02/2024 15:43

The sheer amount of people on here saying they couldn’t give a shit about his cancer diagnosis.

It’s all very childish.

You’re talking about a human being. Yes he’s rich, pampered and somewhat shielded from the realities of life but he’s not a bad person and he has done some good in this world.

You can hate the monarchy and still have basic sympathy for another human - he’s not Hitler or Putin is he?

Very silly.

Naptrappedmummy · 06/02/2024 15:43

I think Harry flying over so quickly is a bad sign.

We got through two world wars and a pandemic, so we can get through this if we just hold our nerve.

’Hold our nerve’ and get through what ? Two world wars and a pandemic killed millions of people and highlighted societal inequality. And currently the state of the NHS means that thousands of people aren’t in the same massively privileged position as Charles in having their cancer diagnosed and treated promptly enough for a more than decent chance of surviving it. It’s hardly the same thing.

Genuine question.

Do most people have a limited amount of sympathy and concern inside them and so have to choose carefully and 'spend' wisely?

I save my concern / sympathy for...
Why? Are you running low on concern or sympathy and are unable to find a stockist?

I didn't realise it's a finite resource. I've been wasting it feeling sympathy for people in all sorts of situations. I'm now concerned I'm going to run out and then be unable to feel concern or sympathy at all for anyone.

Do you think we get a notification like when the mobile phone battery gets below 15%?

Am I wasting my remaining concern by being concerned about this?

These are important questions, people.

Perfect - I agree!
