Have you ever seen anything weird being transported?

Last summer we were heading back from a day at the coast. There was an estate car in front of us which looked like it had a large dog in the back. As we got closer we realised it was a really small horse!
Have you seen anything strange while out and about?

A massive yacht that appeared to be balanced on the tip of its keel, but was actually supported by a cradle of bars around the hull. The whole thing was at least two lanes wide, on an ordinary-width flatbed truck driving so that it straddled the two left hand lanes. Police escort fore and aft. The whole thing crawling along at about 20mph. When we overtook, it felt like we were going underneath it.

A Mini on the back of a flatbed truck. Which itself was on the back of an even larger flatbed truck!

A Virgin Pendolino train (think it was the engine). It was on the back of a flatbed truck on a normal high street (Muswell Hill). DH and I were sitting at a window in the pub having a drink and saw this train go past right outside. We just gawped at it wondering if someone had spiked our drink.

Turkey

Father at the front of the motorcycle, mother at the back, 2 small children in between and she was cradling a baby.

It was the norm there but still as a kid made me wince

A tractor, pulling a flat bed with another tractor on. I also saw one tractor overtaking another a few years ago.

A dead whale that had washed up on the beach. Was moved somewhere to be incinerated, IIRC.

Whole houses being shifted isn't unusual at all in NZ. We'd see them a couple of times a year going past our house as the other road out of town had a bridge they couldn't go under.

Horse and buggy at a gas pump in Amish country looked funny, but they were filling Jerry cans for farm equipment.

Muswell Hill itself is rather steep, isn't it? They'd have had a job getting it up there. Downhill would have been easier though!

We were in Sydney in 2000, on a ferry when another boat passed with a NASA space shuttle on it! Was quite bizarre seeing that!

We get really big stuff here. I can’t imagine this on an English road.

We had large parts of a wind turbine delivered to the port here. There was much time spent measuring every last corner to checking it could be manoeuvred through the town. They started at about 5 am on a Sunday and it took several hours of careful driving to get it through the town.

SandcastleQueen · 05/02/2024 20:33

@NoBistoForYou I also saw a Dalek on a trailer at a services near Kettering! I reckon they love it over East Anglia way, it's nice and flat for them 😂

Zoomerang · 05/02/2024 20:44

A bloke in speedos used to drive a tank around west London all the time, with an Alsatian wearing a bandana in the passenger seat.

Winnading · 05/02/2024 21:26

An entire small town.
I sat in Timmy's in Alberta (dont remember where in Alberta sorry) and watched around 50 houses being moved. I did look it up later and it was a whole small town moved. They moved faster than I imagined, but still it took some time for that many houses to get down the road. The road was blocked while all this happened so I and many others just sat in the Timmy's watching.

unsync · 05/02/2024 22:12

A helicopter with the blades taken off and strapped alongside it on the back of a flatbed truck. Unexpected when driving down a country lane.

Cattenberg · 05/02/2024 22:23

In India, I saw a man on a push bike towing an open trailer the size of a caravan. It was piled high with stacks of chairs. I also saw a huge camel stride down the road. It had such long legs that it looked more like a giraffe.

ltappleby · 05/02/2024 22:26

Back in 1988 I saw the Flying Scotsman being transported on the M62

YorkieTheRabbit · 05/02/2024 22:34

A fully decorated Christmas tree, in a wheelbarrow, late one Christmas Eve night.

A deer in a Ford fiesta.

Canyousewcushions · 05/02/2024 16:07

I saw the actual Boaty McBoatface sub heading down the M6.

I was beside myself with excitement but by the time we were close enough to read the name and realise what it was, we were passing it too fast foe me to be able to get a photo 🤣

My dad helped build Boaty McBoatface 😀

Newname000 · 05/02/2024 22:45

I came on here to say I once had three sheep staring at me out of the rear window of a car. We were in very slow traffic. It was quite disconcerting.
