Have you ever seen anything weird being transported?

Last summer we were heading back from a day at the coast. There was an estate car in front of us which looked like it had a large dog in the back. As we got closer we realised it was a really small horse!
Have you seen anything strange while out and about?

I saw someone getting a really large goat out of their normal family car.

Friend of mine transported a calf in a ford fiesta.

Drill parts for the channel tunnel type things.

In Spain a fridge freezer stod up on a flat bed truck with someone holding it 🙄 so many questions, like "is this the new brave world of EU laws?" " what happens when the driver brakes?" "I see the human protecting the fridge, but what's protecting the human from falling off the truck?"

PuttingDownRoots · 05/02/2024 16:45

Snow. As in a pile of snow in a pick up track, not just snow on a car.

It was a Cyprus thing.

Not quite what you asked but I once saw someone on rollerblades. On the road. Pushing himself along with ski poles. Uphill.

T'was very random.

NoBistoForYou · 05/02/2024 16:48

In Norfolk we saw a full sized Dalek using a zebra crossing.

I was driving my brother and niece to my parents’ house a few years ago, when we passed a garden shed driving the opposite way at 50 mph. Two blokes in the front seats had the biggest grins on their faces, presumably enjoying the expressions of WTF on every driver they passed. I dropped DB and DNiece off and drove home, passing shed blokes a second time and they were still grinning like Cheshire Cats! I spotted them on the news a few days later. Apparently they had broken the record for the fastest garden shed or something like that. I can’t imagine there was too much competition…

I was on a flight a few months back and a young woman a few rows in front had a square piece of blue foam (fairly solid like a swimming float).

It was quite big, maybe 80cm square, I was intrigued as to why someone would be transporting a big piece of foam, but moreover how it got past the Ryanair crew, who were particularly hot on cabin bag sizes that day.

A house. Not a tiny house. A proper house.

Are you sure it wasn't a park home/chalet?

ErrolTheDragon · 05/02/2024 17:14

I saw a shed quite a few years ago - in Somerset iirc. Not sure it was as big as the one @IaltagDhubh saw though.

Last year there was a bloke with a bike outside the local co-op talking to someone, wearing very little other than footwear and a large hat.

friskybivalves · 05/02/2024 17:16

The fuselage of a massive Airbus A380 through a tiny french village. It was wild. Also the wings being taken down the Gironde river on a huge barge.

aitchteeaitch · 05/02/2024 17:19

@IaltagDhubh That looks like a Top Gear stunt to me!

Seen that in Australia. Takes 'moving house' very literally.

CheersToMe · 05/02/2024 17:25

After the 2012 Olympics a couple of the full-size Mandeville and Wenlock mascot figures were sold for charity.

The new owner arrived to collect one in his car - an open top sports car. The mascot was wedged into the passenger seat, seatbelt on and off he went down the M4.

Yep, the one I saw was in Aus too. Not a tiny home, not a caravan-park chalet. A full sized house. Cut in two pieces to be fair. It was a wooden framed weatherboard type house.m. Floor was probably set on wooden poles sunk in concrete itinerary so they’ll just have redone new foundations at the house’s destination.

I saw this giant snake! Was giggling about it for ages

Quite a few years ago I got overtaken by a giant Cadbury's Cream Egg on wheels.
Have also seen a Scooby Doo Mystery Machine & the 3 wheeler from Only Fools & Horses being driven around in Somerset.

Sunbird24 · 05/02/2024 17:45

Pair of ostriches in one of those mini horse box things round a windy country lane in Yorkshire, and I saw the Mystery Machine on the motorway, but being driven not transported!

An entire house - an old Victorian house, wood construction. It was on a wide flatbed house-hauling vehicle, and all the overhead power lines had to be taken down to allow it to navigate the streets. Half the town had no power for the duration of the move. It made the local news.

This, but it was cut in half. It looked like a life-sized doll house!

Also have seen the space shuttle and a massive presidential motorcade that shut down multiple freeways.

ODFOx · 05/02/2024 17:54

Once saw Thomas the Tank Engine on the back of a low-loader, grinning backwards on the M1.
In Vietnam (Ho Chi Min City) I saw : a family of 3 or 4 generations, 9 people all one one moped; one person on a moped packed 15 foot high with boxed pink orchids; one person on a moped with 11 big pigs in individual cages. ...not so much unusual things as an unexpected load/mode of transport choice.

That reminds me of the time I saw one in America. It was on a fairly twisty mountain road somewhere in New England, probably New Hampshire. A SUV came around a corner with a 'wide load' sign on its front bumper. I had just enough time to think that it was weird that it wasn't towing a wide load when a lorry came around the corner towing a HOUSE. It was a two-storey, shotgun style house (narrow width but deep front to back).

It was a reasonably wide road (at least compared to Irish country roads) but the house took up more than the lane width which was a bit scary.

Wind turbines once came through our tiny village. They're absolutely bloody massive.

newnamethanks · 05/02/2024 18:06

A helicopter in 3 parts being transported on 3 separate long vehicles. Slowed the traffic to 20mph on the M3 for a very long time.

QuestionableMouse · 05/02/2024 18:11

A cat in a car at weatherby services. No one believed me until I showed them the pic! Was on a harness, not in a carrier which is what made it a bit odd.

QuestionableMouse · 05/02/2024 18:12

Oh also the wings for the angel of the north. My uncle was one of the welders and took me to see them going out.
