Ive just seen the owners photo,a tatooed thug so called drill rapper. He was the ladies son in law,she was there to see her grandson. Her daughter is sadly deceased so the boy lived with the father.I dread to think how he is being brought up and what he has been exposed to
Its tragic for the family and the dogs too, they were bred by humans for all the wrong reasons,I hope this can end soon and no more tragedies.

Oh god, she was in the house with them , they were her son In laws?

How do they pts on site? Do they just shoot them?

On site, will be usually by police marksmen. They prefer to capture them and take them away unless it's as serious an attack as this one.

My DD works where (too many) dogs are bought to be euthanised by police, either by the authorities or by the owner/family under police order. Very distressing for all those involved.

SerendipityJane · 04/02/2024 16:17

I see people on facebook supporting the keeping of these dogs, trotting out stuff like "it's the owners not the dog"

Euthanise the owners then. No argument here.

I love dogs, really love them and am usually one of the first to trot out the ‘it’s not the dog it’s the owner’ line but I hate this breed with a passion. I was doing the school run one day when I passed a young teenager with one. It stopped and stared at me, totally fixated. The young guy tried to pull it away but couldn’t move it, I could see he was having a bit of a panic because we were both thinking the same thing, if it decides to go for me then neither of us could stop it. I have never been scared of a dog before but I was scared of that one. Thankfully a van drove along pulling a trailer which rattled loudly and for a second caught its attention allowing the boy to pull it around and I quickly made my way around the corner away from it.

WithACatLikeTread · 04/02/2024 15:26

Probably too out of control.

Yes I guess there was no way to safely get them under control and to a vet. One of the officers must have had to shoot them. Reports are saying rhe grandson was there when the gran was mauled. And the images of the dogs , they were big and powerful, she’d have been no match for them.

this whole xl bully thing is just an utter tragedy, for the animals as well as the humans. This owner was still breeding them as well.

Flamme · 04/02/2024 16:29

LFlerr · 04/02/2024 13:02

I can actually believe this.

My DM lives in Clacton - I visit regularly. There are a number of XLs still being walked regularly without muzzles. My DM tackled a group of people yesterday who were walking one with without a muzzle. She got a mouthful of abuse back (and indecent exposure as one of them pulled their trousers down at her).

I wonder if the police are planning any sort of campaign to sort this out? I know it wouldn't be easy, but it would be a fairly certain way of improving their arrest statistics.

God it’s so horrific

I don’t even recognise what it is people want. Why would you want this?

DaisyDaffodil · 04/02/2024 16:32

I’ve just read this.

That poor child lost his mum 2 years ago and has now lost his grandmother under horrific circumstances. My heart goes out to him.

ViscousFluidFlow · 04/02/2024 14:31

@Gloriosaford I was walking along the canal, houses back on to it on one side, the actual path side has open countryside for miles. There was an XL bully in a garden, I mean it’s their own home. I expect attacks and deaths still but a fall in random attacks on the street and now mainly people killed in their own homes that are owners. I am concerned for their children who have no choice and for any health visitor, social worker etc that has to do home visits.

Did you report it to the police?

WithACatLikeTread · 04/02/2024 16:36

Yeah the grandson ran out to get help.

As someone who grew up on a poor council estate I have to say this is crazy to read. I have 2 very large powerful breeds, because I love them. Small breeds don't interest me. Im sorry but they don't and I've worked my way up in life to give my children a better start and I still wouldn't change my dog breeds because of what area I live in now. But I have never flaunted them as a status symbol or used them to scare anyone. I've spent years trying to educate people on how to be a responsible owner and keep the public safe. We arent all crazy degenerates.
This man is just an awful person. You get them everywhere. You can't ban all large breeds because you don't like the people who buy them or what area they live in. That's so crazy.

That's exactly why they should be banned - i.e. to prevent awful people owning them.

Alwaysalwayscold · 04/02/2024 16:39

There was a thread on here the other day where the owner had bought an unknown bully breed from "the woman down the road" and she was worried because she hadn't registered it because she couldn't afford to.

Her worry didn't extend to the fact that it had extremely long nails (she uploaded a picture), it looked a lot like a Pitbull, or basically anything else.

In her posts she sounded like the typical irresponsible owner who's dog ends up killing someone. These people are everywhere and if any of you live near them, please report them.

MadeOfAllWork · 04/02/2024 16:40

There is no need for these kinds of dogs to exist, there simply isn’t. I know a poster up thread said that smaller breeds don’t interest her, well tough. It’s like saying that you really like machine guns.
These dogs have been bred with one single purpose, to be powerful animals that intimidate and can injure people.

The worry is that people who do have dogs like this won’t take them to a proper vet for care as they know that they vet will report them. So these poor creatures will not be properly cared for.
I know a local animal charity to me had a few dumped on them just days before the ban.

Janetime · 04/02/2024 16:40

ThisOldThang · 04/02/2024 16:38

Absolutely. Because you can’t stop irresponsible owners getting them, so they need banned, and it seems this attack took place in the home, so the new law was irrelevant. If you stop breeding them, then no home will habe them and the population becomes safer.

SerendipityJane · 04/02/2024 13:17

Well, things are relative. For the US, guns ....

Yes, they (pittbulls) are an issue in the US… but good
luck banning them.

We know of a child who had her poor face ripped off by her friends dog… she was just 6yr old when it happened.

I don't care where you grew up, where you live now, how hard you've worked or anything else. Literally no one, prince or pauper, should be allowed to own a dog that is capable of so easily and effortlessly killing an adult human. It's completely unnecessary.

CeriB82 · 04/02/2024 16:44

Just seen a photo of the owner. Well well….

ClockworkDisaster · 04/02/2024 16:51

I’m not usually one to recommend puppies being PTS but since this kicked off due to the grandmother being asked to ‘put a broom in among’ the puppies to stop them fighting it doesn’t bode well. Normal well adjusted puppies don’t fight in a way that requires a broom putting between them to stop them. Usually it’s harmless play fighting and picking one up and putting it back down elsewhere is enough to distract them.

These puppies have been bred from aggressive parents. At least two of them are already showing aggressive tendencies at a matter of weeks old. It does not bode well. Even with the best owners in the world you can’t always over rule nature.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/02/2024 16:58

What I find so upsetting about this is that the grandmother knew they were dangerous but she will have have felt she had to visit because it was her grandson.

This is bringing out the snobbery in people. There's a real problem with grading people on socioeconomic status. Humans are equal, they're not better if they have have a suburban semi and a LandRover in the driveway Confused. This is a tradegy.

It's not snobbery to see that antisocial behaviour is far more prevalent in more economically deprived areas. I live in a very deprived part of a town that mostly isn't deprived. The difference in my part of the town to the rest is night and day.

In my part of the town there's dog shit everywhere, litter everywhere, drug packets discarded, gas canisters in drug dens, kids racing around on suped up dirt bikes, house windows boarded up, gardens covered in litter. Not much violence that I'm aware of but I would be careful walking around late at night. In the rest of the town where the houses are at least £150k more than mine, none of that kind of behaviour would be tolerated and it primarily just doesn't happen.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 04/02/2024 17:03

Jesus, what an end to someone's life.

This is why dog ownership should be licensed. I don't care if it's a chihuahua or a Great Dane - you should have to attend courses and pass before you can own a dog, training and insurance should be necessary.
There should be stricter rules on breeding - all dogs used for breeding should be health and temperament checked.
Incidents like this will continue to happen, as said up thread, the types of owners who have dogs that do this will just move on to another breed that is capable.
It should be bloody difficult to be able to own a dog, and breeding rights should be an absolute nightmare to obtain.
I adore dogs, love my own to death - but he is a luxury, not a right. And all dogs should be treated as such.

RosePetals86 · 04/02/2024 17:03

Hope they throw the f*cking book at him !! Two XL bullies both not registered or exempt. He’d have been the type to post picture of them with a teddy and say how his two were ‘soft as a brush/ wouldn’t hurt a fly…’ until they do! That poor lady!

CormorantStrikesBack · 04/02/2024 17:07

HobnobsChoice · 04/02/2024 13:21

Based on the family description of events I suspect the owner is the father of her grandson/her son in law. That poor woman and the poor child seeing this

That’s awful and makes sense because apparently the woman who was killed had previously voiced her concerns about the dog and explains why the boy was reported to have come running out the house screaming for help. It happened in his home. So his mum is dead, now his grandmother has been killed and he witnessed it and chances are his dad may go to prison. Poor kid.

Sarvanga38 · 04/02/2024 17:11

There will presumably (thankfully) be no alternative to putting the litter of pups to sleep, as it is now illegal to rehome them?

Poor lady, and poor young lad who has seen this horror - and, having already lost his mother, is now going to lose his father to prison. I hope that is not used as a sob story to keep this scum on a suspended sentence, the boy will be far better away from this life.

As for anyone reading this and still trotting out the ‘owner not the breed’ comment and thinking their dogs would never do this because they’re a better owner. I’m sure this man thought that yesterday morning, too. It IS the breed.
