People who choose to keep pitbulls, particularly in densely populated areas, are complete fools and should be held accountable. I have zero sympathy for the dog owner involved here. None at all. He comes across as a despicable individual. And this is exactly why they were banned.

Figgygal · 04/02/2024 14:00

Owner seems to fulfill the exact stereotype you'd expect - absolute tool poor woman and the child involved still not worked put the family connection though. Owner is the deceased woman's grandads son I think?

I can actually believe this.

My DM lives in Clacton - I visit regularly. There are a number of XLs still being walked regularly without muzzles. My DM tackled a group of people yesterday who were walking one with without a muzzle. She got a mouthful of abuse back (and indecent exposure as one of them pulled their trousers down at her).

Bloody hell.😮

It's not him that's lost his life though. He won't give a damn.

These politicians will never in their life come across an individual like this. They can't comprehend how awful and out of control some people are. They put these pathetic laws in place honestly believing that people will follow them. It would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic.

They have to be lead to believe that owning pitbulls is not in their best interests. The people who tend to own out defend the right to own pitbulls are often sensitive and defensive about their social standing for obvious reasons. Often mocked, often ridiculed, seriously struggling, generational poverty etc. This then creates an attachment to their 'struggle' and this attachment/defensiveness causes them to strongly identify with it thus defending every single aspect, even if itd to their detrimentt, like owning pitbulls. So they need to be persuaded/taught/shown that owning pitbulls negatively impacts them as a community in order to care. Because I think in their mind, they think why should we care about protecting people who loathe us anyway. Worth adding that most people in Clacton and any deprived area are good people just trying to get by with the odds stacked against them. I have no doubt lots of them resent the pitbull bloke for making walking the streets all the more intimidating and want him taken off the streets.

This is bringing out the snobbery in people. There's a real problem with grading people on socioeconomic status. Humans are equal, they're not better if they have have a suburban semi and a LandRover in the driveway Confused. This is a tradegy.

Have a walk around Jaywick and still see if you believe that!

thebirdsarewatchingyoucarefully · 04/02/2024 14:05

actually come to think of it I think a lot of 'oppressed' groups run into this problem where they identify so much with their 'struggle' that they cling to every element of it even if it's too their detriment.

pasteloblong · 04/02/2024 14:09

I've no doubt that most of the people there are okay and I feel sorry for the decent ones, but some of them have generational sociopathy going on, let's not be coy. His disgusting attitude says everything. He's not a nasty lout because of economic or sociological reasons he's an arrogant scumbag who's responsible for someone's death.

Yes, we all remember Sunak asking a homeless man if he was in business 😳

Forgot about that 🤦🏻‍♀️

These people probably never even set foot in Waitrose. They probably think they're slumming it by having to share the roads with white van man.

Don't they have social scientists who can advise them?

Ilovelurchers · 04/02/2024 14:13

It is a tragedy, and perhaps we do need even tougher laws banning large, potentially lethal dogs.

It's not an excuse to trot out your vile prejudices against the working classes. The vast majority of working class people do not recklessly own dangerous dogs which they know put others' lives at risk. There are abhorrent, irresponsible cunts in all social classes.

WithACatLikeTread · 04/02/2024 14:15

Think I would be worried if I was in Scotland. The amount of them sent up there.

The elites are pretty murderously vile. Just from a greater distance and with a pearly white grin.

True, but I doubt any of the recent spate of killings by these creatures were down to Pitbull owning types called Gerald and Phoebe who live in the Home Counties.

We all know who owns these animals. There is a definite and undeniable pattern. Why pretend?

Yes but this man is probably an actual sociopath who only cares about himself, not his broader community, hence why he's got the violent dogs hanging around them no doubt kids on that estate too.

Please, please tell your mum not to do things like this! My mum used to and frightened the life out of me. It was abuse this time, could be a weapon (or the dog) next.
photograph surreptitiously and report to police. The offenders will no doubt be known.

Kwam31 · 04/02/2024 14:21

ran into a young man, probably a teenager with his hood up and a massive pitbull. It was absolutely petrifying. Mind you he did say sorry and move to the side but still what are you thinking?
this is the hysteria that stereotypes people and dogs, do you behave like this if it's a german shepherd or any large dog with a young person?

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/02/2024 14:22

Sorry but it’s a Godawful place. Feel desperately for the decent people trying to raise their families there. It needs demolishing and replacing with decent social housing. But of course the council is prevented from doing so by the government.

FrancisSeaton · 04/02/2024 14:24

Why does a story about an xl bully killing someone in Jaywick not surprise me at all
Scummy

Louise0808 · 04/02/2024 14:25

As someone who grew up on a poor council estate I have to say this is crazy to read. I have 2 very large powerful breeds, because I love them. Small breeds don't interest me. Im sorry but they don't and I've worked my way up in life to give my children a better start and I still wouldn't change my dog breeds because of what area I live in now. But I have never flaunted them as a status symbol or used them to scare anyone. I've spent years trying to educate people on how to be a responsible owner and keep the public safe. We arent all crazy degenerates.
This man is just an awful person. You get them everywhere. You can't ban all large breeds because you don't like the people who buy them or what area they live in. That's so crazy.

Based on the family description of events I suspect the owner is the father of her grandson/her son in law. That poor woman and the poor child seeing this

Yes I thought that too & it's now been confirmed. Tragic.

Look at his photos on the daily mail. He looks full of himself.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 04/02/2024 14:28

The social deprivation, the ‘deed not breed’ or ‘owner not dog’ and all other arguments are irrelevant.

Nobody should be allowed to keep these sorts of dogs as pets and, like a pp said, the dogs should be taken away and destroyed. There are other breeds and types of big dogs that should go with the XL Bullies.

The issue is more or less exactly like that for firearms. It doesn’t matter how responsible some owners are. If any owners aren’t responsible people are injured and killed. Often children.

There is no justification for keeping a dog capable of killing an adult. None.

Agree we seem to be caught in our own version of gun laws but brutal dogs

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 04/02/2024 14:30

I've seen plenty of xl bullies in affluent areas, although of course it's a thing for people who feel powerless economically and socially to look for ways to gain power over others, be it bullies, dobermans, guns, kagouls, catcalling, or driving snowmobiles like maniacs (where I'm from 😅).

I think any dog that kills or injures someone should have their owner prosecuted for manslaughter or assault/serious harm. It would make a lot of people think twice about their behaviour.
