Spencer0220 · 02/02/2024 04:00

Posting here for traffic. I originally posted in toys and games and got nowhere.

Nephew is 7 beginning of March and I'm stuck. DSis literally no help as she doesn't agree with my £25 budget. Thinks all I will buy is something crap! £25 is literally all we can afford.

This was Christmas and he loved it: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B092VWCQF8?ref=cmmswrrcsowaaapindppXE6HGCY9PPJMJTRB9BJM&cafHiResImg=1&language=en-GB

He loves anything craft/paint based. No modelling clay please.

Has a few paint by numbers. Not sure if he wants more. Loves marvel, Roblox and football.

Thank you so much x

nothing, he won't remember.

Whether or not a child remembers something is completely irrelevant. By that measuring stick, you'd never cuddle a 2 year old or take a 5 year old on a nice walk because they'll likely not remember it. It's all about feeling happy, loved and stimulated. You don't remember every meal you ever ate, but would you say those meals are wasted?

I was going to mention the 2 for £20 on lego sets on argos. I recently got my son a marble run toy for around that price and its great because he can play on his own or its something he can do with us. I got ut off amazon and it comes in a container so you can store all the bits away safely. Failing that a voucher for somewhere like GAME? Or better yet some art and craft supplies from the works and you could make it into a hamper and attach a balloon on it?

Spencer0220 · 05/02/2024 13:10

@Magicmama92 I asked for suggestions at Christmas and got asked for budget.

I then got told I was cheap. And that nothing on his mum's wish list was that cheap!

So for his birthday I bought my own gift. Despite being told I'm only allowed to buy from the approved list. My sister does this so family buy items and then she doesn't have to.

Wow! My bro asked today for my daughter’s 8th bday next week and I said I’d slightly over-bought things for her so I’d wrap up a couple of the Harry Potter things I got (a Lego set £15 and a clock £10) from him or if he couldn’t afford that, to pick one!

xfiles · 05/02/2024 13:29

Fiver in a card should do it

MeinKraft · 05/02/2024 13:39

£25 is a pretty standard about for a nephew present surely? That's what I spend. Anyway there's loads of things you can buy that he'll love. I have an almost 7 year old boy and he would be delighted with any of the following:

a Robux card; Squishmallow; a bottle of prime and a bar of feastables 🤦🏻‍♀️ Nike socks (has to be Nike for some reason); football cards or Pokemon cards; some kind of Lego supercar; a new football.

I saw someone suggest a coffee shop voucher - so he can go out for a hot chocolate and a cake.. mine would have loved that

Oh my son got an ice cream shop voucher one birthday, it was a great present

Baba197 · 05/02/2024 15:47

How rude of his mum!! 🤬my son is 6.5 he loves getting robux gift cards as he is iPad obsessed but also marble run and a metal detector! Totally random but a friend gave me the idea and we take camping with us, hide coins around the campsite/beach and he and his mate spend ages searching. Kids ones are £20 ish on amazon. Make your own slime sets just to annoy the mum!! 😂 shrinky dinks/shrinkles to colour and make own keyrings/magnets, mini laser guns, paint your own piggy bank/plate/mug

My GDS is 7 at the end of the month we've bought him scalextric and a hoodie. Either is in you budget

Ifailed · 05/02/2024 16:37

What an odd comparison. We need to eat to live, unlike a 7 year-old's birthday present.

Ilovecleaning · 05/02/2024 17:55

What a horrible, rude SIL you have!

Missingpop · 05/02/2024 17:56

Your sister needs to get real £25 is ample for a birthday; moneys tight at the moment but of course if she can afford more good luck to let her knock herself out

Cydonia · 05/02/2024 18:15

I think the fact that you care enough about getting the right gift to ask for advice here says more than how much you can afford to spend. I’m sorry your sister is being so difficult when you’re trying your best to get something your nephew will like, I hope all goes well!

trelawney59 · 05/02/2024 18:34

Watercolour pencils - pencils that you can dip into water to create effects similar to watercolour paints.

Art paper - A4/A3

Pastels

Box to keep his art materials in.

Clip frame to display his most recent artwork.

Usborne How to Draw books

White blank cards and envelopes-to design create his own cards - including one to say thank you for his generous £25 gift.

Ap42 · 05/02/2024 18:47

I vote you buy the noisiest, most irritating toy you can find in your budget. Mainly as payback to your rude and ungrateful sister in law!
£25 is a decent budget.

Mynewnameis · 05/02/2024 18:49

You can get paint by number sticker books which are really good

alied321 · 05/02/2024 19:09

My two had these and played with them for years. https://amzn.eu/d/dN8L37l.

BlueGrey1 · 05/02/2024 21:10

25 is plenty on a 7yo, I usually spend 15-20 on my nephews and always manage to get them something they enjoy, most of the time for around the 15 mark

Your DSis Dosen’t sound very nice and sounds v ungratefull

MumToCaptainChaos · 05/02/2024 23:57

Suggest you look at aquallerum painting sets, they are absolutely brilliant! Loads of different themes and no matter how good or bad at painting you are they always look lovely 😍

Fraaahnces · 06/02/2024 01:23

Honestly, I’d be spending every penny on glitter and giving it to her DS for Christmas after being told that you’re cheap.

A card with two tenners inside. He can save them or buy something he likes and your sister won't be telling you that you buy crap.

I love these boxes, you can buy one offs, no need for subscription! Always has some sort of craft/activity, a couple in fact, and you get the lovely book to keep forever.

I went to order this as looked wonderful, but £52 per month for 2 books?! Imagine the box you
could put together yourself for this.

As a kid, my irrational brain would have been way more excited to receive one twenty than two tens…
