Posting here for traffic. I originally posted in toys and games and got nowhere.

Nephew is 7 beginning of March and I'm stuck. DSis literally no help as she doesn't agree with my £25 budget. Thinks all I will buy is something crap! £25 is literally all we can afford.

This was Christmas and he loved it: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B092VWCQF8?ref=cmmswrrcsowaaapindppXE6HGCY9PPJMJTRB9BJM&cafHiResImg=1&language=en-GB

He loves anything craft/paint based. No modelling clay please.

Has a few paint by numbers. Not sure if he wants more. Loves marvel, Roblox and football.

Thank you so much x

We have a budget of around £20 for nephews' Christmas and birthday presents. If I'm feeling flush and see something I know they'll love I'll spend a bit more, but it's what you get not what you spend.

Found something in TK Maxx for newphew #2s birthday that was down to £12. Looked it up online and only Amazon had them for sale, for £40, so I felt pleased with myself there

There are lots of toys and board games you can get for £25 or less. I remember one of DS favourite gifts was an art case he got from my sister, full of pens, pencils, paints, pastels, even the paper.

Prize for most unhelpful post of the year Grin
Maybe you misread and thought he was 7 months old?!

It must just be me then, I'm amazed at all of you who can not only remember what you got on your 7th birthday, but who gave it to you.

This has been one of my favourite things all 3 of my kids have loved over the years. They got it as toddlers and still play with it now and my oldest is 12!

we got this and it was awful ! The children got really frustrated as it broke constantly and would never stay up. I’m glad yours could make it work!

Jk987 · 04/02/2024 09:13

Your sister's the problem. I cannot understand why she would complain about your budget. So ungrateful.

Get something creative that's messy and difficult to remove from clothes, carpets and walls.

Exactly what I was going to suggest 😂

FlamingoQueen · 04/02/2024 09:33

Have a look at Smyths outdoors toys. How about a pogo stick or a super duper water pistol (not to be aimed at your dsis for her appalling attitude to present buying!).
I like to go for something a bit different - I bought my friends son a ball that turned into a frisby when thrown. He loved it (and was 6 or 7).

FlamingoQueen · 04/02/2024 09:34

Apologies - I’ve just read that you’ve bought something! May give someone else an idea though.

TK Maxx is great for toys! Almost and I mean almost got DNephew’s present there last Xmas. Great variety of toys.

TheBayLady · 04/02/2024 09:54

A £20 book token.

Cakelollipop · 04/02/2024 09:57

If he loves football why not get him a ticket to watch his local / favourite team? (And go with him) I like an ‘experience present’ as they’re often remembered.

The big six teams etc are expensive but my team is in the championship and kids tickets are £15 and even cheaper in a particular location.

Longsight2019 · 04/02/2024 10:03

A jump on foam rocket set. Loads of fun. Cricket set for beginners?

zingally · 04/02/2024 10:07

My niblings (twins) have just turned 7.
The girl loves crafting, so I got her a marbling ink set.
The boy is quite intellectual and loves "challenges", so I got him a National Geographic puzzle book and a small lego set.
All presents seemed to go down well.

How about a magazine subscription? There's lots of nice ones out there for crafty, curious kids.

Wooloohooloo · 04/02/2024 10:07

Does he play Minecraft or Roblox? You can get vouchers for them.

Andthereyougo · 04/02/2024 10:09

Wow, the ingratitude of his mother.
im sure you could buy him a drum, a recorder or even a second hand violin which he’d love to practice on. Day and night of course.

MrsRobert · 04/02/2024 10:13

I know people feel that they need to buy a gift for them to open at that age but mine would genuinely prefer to choose a gift themselves. £25 in a card is loads for a 7 year old. They have the fun of choosing something they really want.

Hooplahooping · 04/02/2024 10:13

as an op said - a tambourine is a good option. I would also consider :

  • An ocarina : the unsung hero of the horrible-and-relentless-noise world.
  • non washable finger paints
  • sea monkeys
  • a sing-a-long karaoke microphone
  • a selection of books about what brilliant pets rats make
StressingOutFestival · 04/02/2024 10:18

Whatever you buy him will be over and done with in no time.
I would spend £10 on something small including some sweets and I would open up an account for him and put the £15 in every birthday or Christmas.

One of my nephews aunts never bought him a present but put money in an account on every occasion and when he was 21, she handed him a bank book with a fair amount in it. He was delighted.

sleekcat · 04/02/2024 10:19

That is the amount that most of our family spends on my kids and always have. It’s a perfectly good amount.

Justwondering36 · 04/02/2024 10:19

13-Storey Treehouse Set https://amzn.eu/d/buFpx8D

Nkt craft but these books are great for that ages

trainboundfornowhere · 04/02/2024 10:30

wickeduncle.co.uk have a Space Exploration 4 in 1 Solar Power kit for £22 if your nephew likes building models. I bought it for a friend’s son and he loved it.

What a weird life you must lead, if you think that the only things worth doing are the things you can remember in great detail years later 🙄

Never mind the joy and pleasure of receiving a present and playing with or using it...

NameChange30 · 04/02/2024 10:37

People with dementia and memory loss for example... apparently no point them ever having done anything?!

WimbyAce · 04/02/2024 10:41

The budget is more than fine. Mine is normally about £20 for my niece.

Arabels · 04/02/2024 10:46

I made my son an art kit for Christmas.A giant sketch pad, new pens and pencils, air dry clay and a few other bits, and a brightly coloured toolbox to put them in. Most of it was from TK Maxx. He got many more fancy presents but whenever any asked, he told them about his art kit. Cost about £25 in total. It’s not about what the parents think is ‘worth the money’. Children value being understood.

Are Hama beads like fuse beads? I used to buy my DGD Perler beads and patterns. She enjoyed it, though not as much as she loved making slime. She made a lot of slime for a few years. 😵

Yes, same thing
