Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

It's horrific and sickening that a man could do this to children and their poor mother who he knows
I did wonder if he'd found them in a refuge, but it seems the attack happened near a hotel
I hope the culprit is found asap
Obviously a very dangerous man

TylaTiga · 01/02/2024 13:41

That other acid attacker, the one who was with the reality tv lady who called the attack victim ugly or some such, got 20 years.

Not enough in my view. I dislike the British justice system but I have no idea how you would change it as I don’t know enough about it in truth.

StandardLFinegan · 01/02/2024 13:42

There needs to be some different terminology introduced to describe these incidents. A way of reassuring the public that a deranged person is not on the prowl looking for a random victim without using the word “feud” or “domestic”.

I really detest the implication or inference that violence is in any way less serious because it happens within a dysfunctional relationship or within the home.

Domestic violence is violence full stop.

For those closet racists jumping on this to justify their vile opinions - get your facts straight. The attacker and all victims are white. As seen by eye witnesses and reported to the police and media. Keep your prejudice to yourself.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims ❤️

Incorrect information

Incorrect information

I don’t know if it is incorrect, don’t know what race they are BUT all the comments I read on a news site this morning were indicating the perpetrator was black or Asian.

The two other acid attackers I’ve heard about were both white. I fail to understand how people are jumping to race conclusions without firm evidence? It’s irrelevant. The person is vile no matter their race. White people have committed acid attacks. It’s ridiculous that anyone would assume they were non-white.

maltesefiction · 01/02/2024 13:46

Absolutely horrific. Should be locked up for a long time.

I think it's fine to say, "this was a targeted attack against his family members" or similar. Calling it a feud or a domestic is really not right.

MarysSonResurrected · 01/02/2024 13:51

@TheFrendo I'm unsure about this. In certain cases, I actually wonder if the mainstream media fuels racial unrest by depicting working close or "under class" white people as racist moron thugs and Asians as backwards groomers, despite the fact that the vast majority of poor white people and Asians do not fit these stereotypes at all.

TheMadnessOfOfsted · 01/02/2024 13:51

"Vitriol", or acid attacks have been used for centuries in this country, so the closet racists can stop their nonsense.
It's why verbal attacks are described as vitriol if they're particularly vicious.
There's a Sherlock Holmes story that describes one.

Police are looking for 35-year-old Abdul Ezedi

Supt Gabriel Cameron, attached to Lambeth police station has just given an update to press gathered at the area in Clapham.
He described the chemical assault last night in Clapham as “horrific” and gave further details on the man police are looking for: a 35-year-old man named Abdul Ezedi. Cameron said Ezedi was with the woman and children attacked last night but had left the scene. Ezedi was last seen in Caledonian Road, north London, he added. “He has significant injuries to the right side of his face,” Cameron said.
He said: “If you see him … I plead to not approach him. Call 999.”
Cameron has also confirmed that police will circulate photographs of Ezedi later.

In the event we're ever in such a situation

Water lots of it

Remove contaminated clothing

Keep pouring on the water

TylaTiga · 01/02/2024 13:56

So he’s burnt his own face too? He won’t be hard to spot, he may need medical attention himself, not that he deserves it. Hopefully they find him soon.

GingerScallop · 01/02/2024 13:57

Shocking news. I now read from BBC that there are 100 hospitalisations a year from assault using corrosive substances. So so grim and scary. I wonder what the breakdown of these are: random vs non-random, sex of attacker vs of victim, "intimate" partner violence vs other. We live in a very very scary world. It all feels very unsafe at the moment

Efacsen · 01/02/2024 13:58

Huge search

We are liaising with our local other partners [and] agencies. We are working alongside Northumbria [police]. We believe the male is from the Newcastle area and he could be going back there. He might not be but he could be. British Transport Police (BTP) are working alongside us as well. We are working in collaboration with other agnecies to try and locate this male.”

Dogdilemma2000 · 01/02/2024 13:58

That looks like a mug shot. Wonder if he’s been arrested previously.

Those poor poor children.

HarrietStyles · 01/02/2024 13:59

I used to live on this street. I always felt so safe living there. It’s heartbreaking…. Children too 😭 I hope no-one has life changing injuries.
Just round the corner from where Sarah Everard was snatched also.

The Met saying they have 'no idea' of suspect's motivation.

….care to explain this comment further?

forgivingfiggy · 01/02/2024 14:16

I keep thinking about those kids and their poor mum who must have felt helpless to protect them. The amount of trauma he has left in his wake.

The Met saying they have 'no idea' of suspect's motivation.

They always say this, even when it's blindingly obvious to everyone what the most likely explanation is.

Gloriosaford · 01/02/2024 14:17

My first thought when I heard about this awful and shocking attack was that it would be a man attacking his partner or ex partner.

Is it for legal reasons? You know how they can’t say certain things in case it ends up getting dismissed in court later?

The same thing that's always wrong with people who do things like this. They're angry / stupid / mentally unwell / desperate / being coerced...

And male.........
