Has anyone else seen this horrible news story? Apparently 9 people have been injured, looks like the original targets were a woman and two children.

What is WRONG with people?!

And I agree with you. Vetting won’t solve much.

Why not?

jasflowers · 02/02/2024 16:40

YesSirMam · 02/02/2024 16:39

He is from Iran

Ha sorry, i thought i heard he was from Afghanistan, which BBC say is still the case...

Do we have a returns agreement with Iran? Syria? Libya? Niger? Mali? Sudan?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/02/2024 16:41

YesSirMam · 02/02/2024 16:05

The children are not seriously injured as feared. They appear to be ok physically. The mother suffered life changing injuries & is sedated. My heart breaks for her

You mean one child is also fine after being slammed into the pavement or wherever she was hurt?

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/02/2024 16:45

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 16:40

Why not?

I agree with @Parrotseatthemall , the vetting system is not fit for purpose in this country in its present state.

Think I’ll back off from this thread as I can see it getting out of hand again.

Why are you naming certain countries and not others?

I agree if you do it here, is that what you mean?

It’s different if you can apply the rules before accepting people

I believe we do with Iran. Weather things have changed recently who knows. Iran do what they want

As someone mentioned here yday probably deleted, I bet he’ll play the mentally unwell card.

I never rally round evil fuckers. Yes, there may be reasons in his past or culture why he attacks women and children but I’m not interested in hearing them.

Both children have not suffered life changing injuries. Full physical recovery expected. Same can’t be said for the poor woman

Can you point out the posters "rallyng around" this man? I have not seen one.

Yes that is what I mean.

Ok we agree. A good example is the Ukrainian scheme, you have limiting rules

It’s very different to assessing people after they arrive by irregular means

Its a mater of fact that the UK has very few returns agreements, these countries are war zones or unstable, of course there are many more too, i'm i expected to name every war zone in the world???

Its inhumane to return people to any cruel regime.

Both children may not suffer lifelong physical injuries but may suffer PTSD at the least. We’re splitting hairs here though and I agree thank goodness the children haven’t suffered life changing injuries.

Inhumane to return people to cruel regimes but quite humane to allow them to live and commit crimes in the country which gives them refuge.

That’s it. I am out of this thread.

Agree. Can’t even begin to imagine the torture those children are going to go through, especially given the fact she may not be recognisable to them as their mummy. I hope the woman has a support network here that can help her rebuild her life & raise her children

pointythings · 02/02/2024 16:56

As an aside, personally I think it's insane that converting to Christianity carries any weight at all in whether or not asylum is granted. Religion just shouldn't come into it at all.

We didn't let him "live and commit crimes here" he broke the law and we didn't jail him for it.
Imho in 2018 he should have been returned to Afghanistan, we were running the country then, the Govt should never have granted him asylum.

How would we send him back to Afghanistan now (under the Taliban) when they wouldn't even accept him back?
Parachute drop over Kabul?

You and I must be reading different threads. Who is minimising and rallying round him?

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 16:59

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain I know it’s difficult on here at times, I didn’t mean to add to your frustration I think we agree

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/02/2024 17:03

Ok he broke the law… but we admitted him as a refugee in the first place ffs. Did he commit crimes abroad? Who knows?

My Canadian ex fiance was serving in intelligence in Afghanistan ffs.

and yes he shouldn’t he been granted asylum back in 2018.

At least you’re being civil. Which I respect.

It isn't the case that all British people are wonderful and all foreign nationals are villains, but we are unfortunately stuck with the sex offenders who are born here, we don't have to be stuck with the ones who aren't. Yet again women come bottom of the pile. I am just sick and tired of predatory men gaming various systems by claiming that they are the ones who are weak and vulnerable. The asylum system really needs to consider if individuals coming from dangerous countries were actual contributors to the danger in those countries and if they will make this country more dangerous. Importing the conditions that create the need for asylum will help no-one.

Parrotseatthemall · 02/02/2024 17:09

As was always life boils down to the survival of the fittest..or the richest. Our 'democracy' is showing otherwise via the internet, and is dubious to our home grown people who voted for something but got something different. Interfering influencing and rattling people in places that not our actual business and showing them our caring cards is asking for trouble...unfortunately for them and us it's not all it's cracked up to be..and getting worse
