Strange "stumbled upon" food combinations!

MoonWoman69 · 31/01/2024 20:40

I'll start! I was once getting low on provisions, coming up to the big shop!
I wanted something tasty, didn't have a sandwich toaster, but wanted toasties.
So, I made corned beef and Stilton toasties, the old way, under the grill! They were absolutely the nicest thing ever!
So what's your stumbled upon strange food combination?

Sainsburys own brand chicken noodles with cheese stirred in and melted (sometimes we add a spoon of pesto too). So good and no idea why! We cook with about 200ml of water so it all absorbs therefore none is drained away and we keep all the salty goodness of the flavour packet Grin

We do this, we call them Special Noodles. Fry a small onion, some frozen peas and sweetcorn, maybe some mushroom, on a high heat, chuck in the sachet and then the water and then the noodles, cook for however long, put in a bowl and too with lots of grated cheddar.

Scrambled egg with pickled beetroot. I was a student at the time and eking out last few bits of food at end of term but it was actually really nice!

Greek yoghurt with Nutella

Salami and sour cream & onion flavour Pringles sandwiches. White bread. They are addictive.

You know those chicken slices with the stuffing in the middle from the cooked meat section at the supermarket?

In bread with jam and put into whatever you use to make a toastie in.

My husband and SIL like pasta and salad cream;brings a whole meaning to pasta salad.

Mine aren't as mad as some of these combinations, but...

Cold buttered toast topped with Laughing Cow cheese triangle, some tuna and sweet corn mayo and then a good amount of Thai sweet chilli sauce

Peanut butter on cold buttered toast topped with marmalade

Ham on cold buttered toast topped with sliced banana and a sprinkle of sea salt flakes

Stilton crumbled into tomato soup

My sister got me into a dollop of Philly with Thai sweet chilli sauce on top for dipping stuff into

Honey drizzled over goats cheese

Honey and goats cheese is an AMAZING combo. I love it on crackers.

I think I'll try that! For some reason the instant noodles are so much nicer than normal spaghetti for me now.

I work colleague introduced me to bacon, Brie and apricot jam sandwiches, heated so Brie is oozing. OMG they are AMAZING.

Salad made from really tasty chopped up cherry toms, raw spinach, grated cooked beetroot and chopped ripe banana, all mixed with mayo. I could eat a bucketful, it's so delicious. The banana takes it to a new level

RestingCatsArseFace · 01/02/2024 15:17

Cream cheese, peanut butter and sliced nectarine in a white bread sandwich.

I had run out of bananas so replaced with nectarine.

Paw2024 · 01/02/2024 15:17

Egg mayo on marmite rice cakes

User2356542 · 01/02/2024 15:24

Tortilla chips smeared with Philadelphia and a dollop of salsa on each one. Like a lighter version of nachos.

newtb · 01/02/2024 15:26

Egg mayonnaise and thin slices of pickles walnut on wholemeal bread. Could just fancy it now!

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 01/02/2024 15:40

Steamed hispi cabbage with butter and miso

You can make (excellent) toasties with a frying pan and any pot. Butter the outside of your sandwich, pop it in the pan and weight it with the pot on top. Flip and weight again.

Random but Horseradish on toast 😋

No need for the pot, just flatten it with a spatula and lean on it a bit until it sticks.

Even better if you use mayo on the outside instead of butter, but it does catch quicker so you need to keep a close eye on it

OP, this thread has made me add a beef silverside to my shopping list, I badly need corned beef now. I'll do a proper one hot for dinner & the rest on toast with many cheeses. I thank you for the inspiration.

Are you from the US? Corned beef to you is brisket to people in the UK, our corned beef is a kind of moulded lump in an odd shaped tin which is opened with a little metal key.
Brisket is a cheapish joint that should be slow cooked, a bit like salt beef but without the salt.
I am not making it sound great am I?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 01/02/2024 21:24

Scrambled eggs with cinnamon. I added it by mistake once and it was beautiful.

Longlive · 01/02/2024 21:44

Marmite and cucumber sandwiches.
Marmite soldiers and boiled eggs.

DominiqueBernard · 01/02/2024 21:47

A friend told me about dipping spring onions into hummus. So good.

DominiqueBernard · 01/02/2024 21:49

Also in Spain we often had a slice of grilled green pepper with scrambled eggs or omelette which is surprisingly effective. (Like a bell pepper, not a Padrón.)

I was about to say Marmite and cucumber! Also love Marmite toast with any kind of egg or even baked beans (and I don't even like baked beans that much.)
