Why assume everyone on NMW is getting UC?

asrarpolar · 30/01/2024 12:08

Why do people assume that someone on national minimum wage is receiving universal credit? A couple both on national minimum wage can easily be receiving no universal credit, even if one is working part-time. Benefits are really low.

You don't know what you are talking about. You are showing yourself up commenting on UC, holding ignorant opinions... yet you have basically said you don't know how the system works! You can't be doing that well in life. We will give you safe place darling and let you me who you want to be here no judgement from MN land ❤️

Would you rather people stayed in unhappy marriages?

You don't need to be as goady as you are, you (if you're telling the truth) are extremely lucky to own 4 rentals, while raising a family with a wife that probably doesnt work.

And thats very rude and also incorrect

Me and DH both work (I'm 25 hours atm due to personal reasons and DH 40 hours) on NMW. We earn just under 30k a year between us, not entitled to anything. We private rent and he has 2 kids from a previous marriage which we have 3x a week (for which he pays maintenance before anyone says anything 😂) we will be much better off once we pay off some debts.

@3WildOnes what area did you put that in for? Because in my area they would not be entitled to rent.

I've just done it again for a random postcode in the Midlands. This hypothetical family would receive £333.57 a week in UC despite a house hold income of 45k. Most of this would be to cover childcare costs at £1400pm.
I think with a household income of 37k you are actually fairly unusual as parents in not receiving UC and this is presumable because you either have a mortgage or no housing costs and because you have no childcare costs. Most families at that income level with both parents working would presumably have some childcare costs and be renting.

It was you who brought it to this discussion when you said too many people in this country get divorced.

I'm a fulltime working and part time studying lone parent on not much more than NMW. I could get childcare covered on UC, but I prefer to stay with tax-free childcare because I have high savings that are nearly at the 16k mark. To me it's not worth the stress of admin/being treated like a criminal if my savings tip over the threshold.

@3WildOnes I have already said that we would be entitled to childcare costs if we had them. Our children are teenagers. We used to have childcare costs. Childcare costs although high are for a fairly small part of a couples' life. I also said if we rented we would be entitled to UC of about £60 a month. We have a mortgage instead.
We are not unusual at all.

Can't you support him with your 4 home rental income, and your wifes amazon drop shipping? Or does he just need to work harder?

Probably can't afford to save for their own properties whilst they are paying high private rents to people like you !

Out of interest, do you know the percentage benefits claimants that “don’t wish to work”?

Or the demographic which makes up the highest proportion of benefits claimants? Or the proportion of benefits claimants who are in full time work, or on zero hour contracts?

Because you sound quite ignorant. It’s really not as easy as not wishing to work and then being handed some cash.
