I beat the Lidl cashier

Today was a momentous day. Today I finally beat the Lidl cashier. He tried his best but I was there, ready and waiting to pay with all my bags properly and neatly packed while he sorted out the final till stuff.

Do I now get to move on to the next level?

Yes you can now apply for a stock assistant position!

EarthlyNightshade · 28/01/2024 13:37

Well done.
You need to create a cheat sheet for people like me who end up putting litres of milk on top of crisps and free range chicken - and that's only bag 2!

NotFastButFurious · 28/01/2024 13:37

You should apply for the next series of Gladiators!!

x2boys · 28/01/2024 13:44

My dh silently plays this game every time we go to Aldi😂
He doesn't Like to waste time packing on the packing shelf so he tries to beat he cashier every time ,he's quite accomplished now
He also plays he game of rounding everything up.to the nearest pound ,he's never more Than a pound or two out .

BrownTableMat · 28/01/2024 14:06

I honestly thought you meant you’d beaten the poor cashier up! I thought, I know they can be annoying but that’s a bit harsh

3luckystars · 28/01/2024 14:07

Next you are going to tell us your conditioner ran out at the exact same time as your shampoo.

Ha!

As if this happened!!

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/01/2024 14:08

I've levelled up. Once, the cashier said, "have you worked in a supermarket?" Never been so proud.

missmodular2 · 28/01/2024 14:21

Impressive. I normally beat the Tesco cashier but Lidl staff are next level.

Notalldogs23 · 28/01/2024 14:31

Now you have to see if you can take on Aldi...

Ginmonkeyagain · 28/01/2024 14:34

TBF it was a different Lidl to my usual one. That one is staffed by steely eyed Eastern Europeans who make it their mission to BREAK YOU

I can go one better than that - my cleanser, toner and moisturiser all ran out on the same day a couple of weeks ago. The first time in the 14 years that I've been using them!

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/01/2024 14:37

Nice one OP.🙌🙌

OldTinHat · 28/01/2024 14:37

Show off! 😆

kraysee · 28/01/2024 15:15

Top work. Our Lidl cashier watched my husband get his bags all ready and stand in place at the end of the til and said in a loud voice 'Ready? Let's play!' Before chucking the items at him ASAP

3luckystars · 28/01/2024 15:18

My friend worked in Aldi and told me they are monitored how fast they are scanning.
They are amazing. I’m seriously impressed if this is true.

Trufflenose · 28/01/2024 15:20

How crushed was your food?!

PuppyMonkey · 28/01/2024 15:21

I reached professional level in packing in our Aldi years ago. Used to get cashiers advising me not to pack my big ikea bags at the till but do it at the packing area and I’d calmly tell them: “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.” It was my specialism. The cashiers never beat me.

Unfortunately our local one has got rid of most of the tills and gone self-service, which has really taken the fun out of going there for me. Sad

GrumpyPanda · 28/01/2024 15:23

My local Aldi has set up dual packing areas for each till now, each with its own credit card thingy. So once you count in time for paying, seems it comes out 1:2.

Mirrormeback · 28/01/2024 15:24

I am so rubbish at Lidl

They ajways have to slow down for me Blush

Jollyoldfruit · 28/01/2024 15:27

@Ginmonkeyagain impressive.
I usually give up half way through. I’m excellent at the final bill though, usually within a £.
Dh, who is a demon packer, struggles in Aldi.

MyselfYouselfMeYou · 28/01/2024 15:29

Very impressive OP!
I like to line my shopping up on the converyor belt with the bar codes all in a line under the products so that the cashier can just swipe them. So try that next time and then see if you can keep up.

scrivette · 28/01/2024 15:36

Well done! A couple of times the Lidl cashier has praised me on my quick packing, I was very proud!

I do feel that they cheat when they start scanning before I can get my trolly to the right place for packing, it only happens when the person ahead of me has been very slow!

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 28/01/2024 15:43

Sadly the supermarkets like that have a scan speed.

In ASDA it is 26 and above, so that's 26 items per minute.

The ' good ' staff are above 35, I can achieve 30/31 on a very good day, on average I am 28.

Only around 8/10 staff achieve over 26, weekly. Their names are ' displayed ' on a whiteboard in order of speed, so I am usually in the bottom 3 :)

There must be what ? 25 staff over a 7 day period, with checkouts available for 12+ hours a day ( don't expect or hope for a checkout to be open just because the store is open ! This is an ASDA that is open from 6 am - midnight ! Checkouts are frequently closed from 7pm onwards. )

So 26 is not realistic, as a. only 33% of staff are achieving it b. 66% of staff never get there and the very top scanners must be scanning at 50 or so to even get the store average to 26 most weeks. Very often the store doesn't achieve it.

I understand both LIDL and ALDI have a much higher scan aim / achievement ?

M&S don't not have a target, they prefer a decent / good customer service, tho they do/did know what speed their staff were scanning at.

Trufflenose · 28/01/2024 15:46

Whatever happened to customer service? How is forcing staff to speedscan helping anyone? It's no quicker in the long run as people spend ages scrabbling around after all their stuff has been chucked in a big pile at the end of the conveyer belt.

This is amazing (and terrifying) thanks for sharing.
