What a strange thing to say. I am certain her mother knew that her daughter needed help. But she couldn’t force her to do anything she didn’t want to do. Even the richest, most well educated and most caring families with contacts and an understanding of mental health/morality and law are helpless in this kind of situation. That’s why issues like addiction happen in every kind of family. No amount of money, empathy or effort can make addiction go away. The addict has to have insight and choose recovery for themselves.

CM seems to have been deluded. What do you think her mother could have done? You have no evidence that her mother did nothing or did not care.

I don't really see your point here. How can Constance Marten's parents force a 37 year old woman to do anything? If she wanted psychological help then she could get it but what can you do if someone refuses or doesn't think they need help?

She has been estranged from her parents since 2012 - according to Constance Marten because they disapproved of her having children with Mark Gordon. It is clear that nobody knew about the baby before they fled.

You do understand that her parents don't control the family trust and the money she gets? It is administered by trustees, a London firm of lawyers, and it is not clear who set it up from press reports. Could be one of those family trusts from generations ago (her great grandfather was a Baron) or could have been set up by her brother who sold the ancestral home and some land for £34 million in 2013.

Clearly Constance knew enough to write to the trustees for additional money beyond her monthly allowance. She got money for a car, and camera equipment - I presume the trust would have paid for private medical treatment but she didn't ask - from her court appearance I don't think Constance thinks she needs help.

I finally got around to listening to the latest podcast.

I do wonder if she changed tactics & threw him under the bus as a coercive partner if she'd get a different outcome??

Are they really equal partners in this?

I'm making a huge assumption here based on a new story that the other children were taken away due to domestic violence.

Is that the Mail/Metro one? I started listening last night. I was quite shocked at how many people recognised them and were reluctant/late to ring a sighting in. Also the police who were too busy to listen to the man reporting them, what a tragedy.

Looks like the retrial for this case has begun.

I was just looking for a thread about this.

newtlover · 10/03/2025 19:08

I've forgotten why there is a retrial, does anyone know

newnamethanks · 10/03/2025 19:09

Can somebody please update me? What happened with the last trial and why a re-trial?

GrandKarber · 10/03/2025 19:12

The jury failed to reach a verdict in the Manslaughter Gross Negligence part.

newnamethanks · 10/03/2025 19:19

Thank you. I want to know what happens to them but like many others, can't bear to read about child abuse in any detail.

Snowdays23 · 10/03/2025 19:29

The poor baby

Phase2 · 10/03/2025 20:09

Oh gosh I didn't realise that. The podcast was actually really good and quite empathetic to everyone.
I do feel really sorry for parents who can't parent or understand what god parenting is.

The original trial went on for so long, delayed by the 2 defendants all the way through for different reasons including changing representation multiple times. There were a couple of jury member holidays too but the original trial wasn't meant to last that long. So it dragged on into about 4/5 months, by which time the jury gradually lost members - as they couldn't commit to that length of trial. When the jury got to 10 members, the judge said he would accept a majority verdict. But then the trial collapsed when another jury member was lost -? Illness and with a jury of 9 it was impossible to come to a verdict. Hence starting all over again. That poor, poor baby girl.

newnamethanks · 11/03/2025 20:31

What a pair. Words aren't enough.

Startyabastard · 12/03/2025 12:53

The poor tiny child was stuffed into a bag for life with stuff loaded on top of her whilst she was still alive. Constance Marten also considered cremating the sweet baby after they'd found out she was dead. Awful.
The both of them are defensive c*nts.

She wasn't put in the bag while she was alive, only after she died. Not ok but not the same.

When I followed the last trial it showed videos of them with the bag for life with the baby supposedly inside it when she was alive. They were carrying her round in it

Posh Pothead & Ponce Paedo delayed the trial as much as possible for as long as possible.

Impressive legal thinking on their feet for such unworldly, spiritual types.

Council for the prosecution alleged they had carried her around in the bag for life while she was alive. CM gave evidence that she was carried inside her coat, and that they only put her body in the bag after she died. There's no way to be sure about the truth either way, but it's far more likely that she did carry the baby inside her coat than in a carrier bag. For one thing the baby would have been uncomfortable and cold and would have cried and moved around making her very obvious. The evidence suggests that they only carried her in the bag on one occasion when they took a bus into Brighton, and they brought her body with them because they were afraid if they left her she would get found by animals. They don't seem to have left the woods again for long after that occasion. They are dreadful parents and very very strange people but there is no evidence they carried a live baby around in a bag.

Aside from the weird name calling I don't think there is any evidence he's a paedophile. I think it's tragic enough as is.

Tigresswoods · 13/03/2025 21:16

Details from the trial today. Found in the burned out car, 38 phones!!!! Nearby an actual live cat in a box.

Couldn't make this stuff up.

Notsuchafattynow · 14/03/2025 18:53

They had a cat in a box with them?

Tigresswoods · 14/03/2025 19:31

Yes! But only until the car caught fire. You couldn’t make this stuff up!

Supersimkin2 · 15/03/2025 00:14

Wasn’t the man done for rape or child rape in the US? He did time for it.

Tigresswoods · 15/03/2025 06:27

Correct @Supersimkin2i believe he was a minor & he raped an older person. The whole story is fascinating.
