Do you look your age ?

Not wishing to brag, but I often feel I could pass for 5 - 10 years younger. I've never asked anybody this question and I'm purely using the judgement of my own eyes. If I go back in time 39 years to when my late Dad was the same age as I am now (53), I see a man in early middle age with a full head of black hair - some greying - but a rather lined face and seemingly expanding ears! I, on the other hand, have a lot more grey hair than he did but a much denser texture and no obvious facial lines. I've always had bags under my eyes but not Peter Woods proportions! My sister is 61 but she could pass for late 40s, in my opinion.

Maybe there's no right or right or wrong answer. I could have a skewed personal perception or perhaps we're all living longer and I'm seeing that played out at close quarters.

PS. The old man had, along with Mum, raised seven children by the time he was my age whereas I have no children. So, no parental stress!

From the back

HazeyjaneIII · 22/01/2024 22:17

I'd say until I was 50 I looked younger.
I'm 54 now and have somehow aged by about 20 years...I just look fucking knackered!

DustyMaiden · 22/01/2024 22:19

That picture was taken on my 60th birthday, I’m 62 now

Mindovermatter247 · 22/01/2024 22:24

I’m 35, I look about 26/27 ( or maybe 16, the guy interviewing my son for college thought I was there to be interviewed too 😅) however I feel like I’m 70 😞

PyongyangKipperbang · 22/01/2024 22:29

breadinthemicrowaveornothing · 22/01/2024 22:13

@PyongyangKipperbang no, I am mixed race but I see why you'd think that 😂

Sun does age the skin!

@breadinthemicrowaveornothing I meant no offence! My dd is mixed race too!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 22/01/2024 22:29

I'm 42 and look 42. At least.

I don't sunbathe, I don't drink, I don't smoke. I take good care of my skin.

It's genetics. My cousins (on my dad's side) are all 10-15 years older than me and are only just starting to look over 40. I got my mum's genes, I look my age.

It genuinely doesn't bother me. I am my age, I can't change that. I also think that people have forgotten how 'older' people look, and in general, are 1) bad at guessing; and 2) guess at least 5 years younger so as not to upset people.

SweetBirdsong · 22/01/2024 22:31

Everyone looks their age. (Within 3-5 years.) When you look properly, and without make up and filters.

Fact.

Anyone who tells you that you look 10+ years younger is either rubbish at guessing ages, has poor eyesight, they're taking the piss, or they're being kind.

If you're 42 you don't look 25. You just don't.

fourlambbhunas · 22/01/2024 22:33

I'm 31 and I get ID'd for alcohol 🤣

Bibsandrepeat · 22/01/2024 22:35

I'm almost 30 and I still get ID'd for literally a can of redbull!! It's so embarrassing and I find it really frustrating. I don't have a child-like face I just have absolutely no wrinkles and people tell me I look really innocent which probably makes me look younger. I was once going through security at JFK Airport and an attendant asked me where my guardian was - I was lost for words lol.

WhamBamThankU · 22/01/2024 22:37

I'm mid 30s but quite regularly get asked for ID in supermarkets etc as I apparently sometimes don't look over 25 Hmm the lighting must be flattering cos I see plenty of forehead creases in the bloody self serve cameras.

PangramAddict · 22/01/2024 22:39

I recently started a new job and after the last thread like this I assumed I looked vaguely my age - 42.

I was chatting with my work "buddy" and saying my team are all so young, in their late 20s/early 30s and she was like "well, surely they're the same age as you then?" And I said no, I'm 42, she nearly fell off her chair.

My friend suggested as I dress a bit oddly (like my mum did in the 90s 😆) and I'm short and small and smooth skinned it's hard to place my age.

I also think most people aren't really that interested in other people's ages!

SweetBirdsong · 22/01/2024 22:39

It's really not that unusual to get IDd for booze and redbull at 30-31. 🙄 People have to look over 25 to be sold it. That just means you could pass for mid 20s at first glance. Most people have a tale to tell about being ID'd for booze/redbull up to around 32-33.

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 22/01/2024 22:39

I looked waaaaay younger than I actually was before I started teaching. Teaching has aged me about 3x as fast.

biscuitnut · 22/01/2024 22:40

I am 50 and I look 50. I hope I look a good
healthy 50. Most people regardless what work they have had done etc still look within 5 years of their true age. The best you can do is look is try and look after yourself, protect your skin and stay in shape etc. Agw catches up with us all. Menopause certainly accelerates the aging process. It’s really not that important to me now unless I catch sight of myself looking down in my camera phone. Then I want to cut my own head off because I am a hideous old bag.

Why ask about a 4 year old photo 🙄

JessicaBrassica · 22/01/2024 22:42

I've been asked a couple of times recently if I'd have more children. Someone recently thought I was 38. I'm 50.

Never worn makeup. Spent a lot of time outside but not a massive fan of heat so I avoid the sun. Tens to forget sun cream though!

BronwenTheBrave · 22/01/2024 22:42

Literally everybody now looks younger than their age.

SweetBirdsong · 22/01/2024 22:43

@DustyMaiden re your pic at at 20.22. You look OK, and yes a bit younger than 60. But you don't look waaaay younger than that. You could pass for 55. IMO.

DustyMaiden · 22/01/2024 22:47

@SweetBirdsong oh well I’ll have to settle for that.

SweetBirdsong · 22/01/2024 22:48

😆 No offence I hope @DustyMaiden How old did you think you looked?

It's perfectly OK and normal to look your age - or close to it. I don't understand why anyone has a problem with looking their age! Confused

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 22/01/2024 22:48

Honestly I believe hardly anyone ever looks more than 3 or at most 5 years younger than they really are; not if people are looking properly. That’s not to say that with the right make up, clothes and in the right light, a person can’t pass for a decade younger on occasion to the “right” audience. But that’s not the same thing as actually looking 10 years younger.

Like a PP I meet lots of people professionally, and I almost always know their ages in advance. I’ve yet to meet anyone in 27 years who truly looked more than a couple of years younger than their age. Most look their age or older!

DustyMaiden · 22/01/2024 22:48

@WhamBamThankU it was the only photo I had on this phone.

WhamBamThankU · 22/01/2024 22:50

@DustyMaiden

Not true, at the bottom of the one you posted there's loads of you at the bottom from your album. You obviously chose one where you think you look younger.

candlelog · 22/01/2024 22:50

@DustyMaiden I'd have said a lot 52-54 so you do look young imo.

WhamBamThankU · 22/01/2024 22:50

I'm tired, that first sentence makes little sense.
