Do you look your age ?

Not wishing to brag, but I often feel I could pass for 5 - 10 years younger. I've never asked anybody this question and I'm purely using the judgement of my own eyes. If I go back in time 39 years to when my late Dad was the same age as I am now (53), I see a man in early middle age with a full head of black hair - some greying - but a rather lined face and seemingly expanding ears! I, on the other hand, have a lot more grey hair than he did but a much denser texture and no obvious facial lines. I've always had bags under my eyes but not Peter Woods proportions! My sister is 61 but she could pass for late 40s, in my opinion.

Maybe there's no right or right or wrong answer. I could have a skewed personal perception or perhaps we're all living longer and I'm seeing that played out at close quarters.

PS. The old man had, along with Mum, raised seven children by the time he was my age whereas I have no children. So, no parental stress!

I'm 58. In the morning just after waking I look about 150! After a couple of cups of coffee, ablutions and a bit of slap on I've been told I look mid 40s x

@blueandgreenandyellow i look 10 years younger. I am 34 and get mistaken for a teen. I attached a photo. Sucks looking young. You think it could be elhers danlos?

I've seen your pictures on another thread. You do not look like a teen.

Lovingsummers · 04/08/2024 02:57

No-one here will ever believe anyone looks younger. I've seen these threads time and time again. But regardless, I do look at least ten years younger. That's because I have EDS. I'd accept a few wrinkles if it got rid of a few of the associated symptoms.

Any chance she had ehlers danlos? Different variations can impact collagen, with some claiming to look much younger than their ages as a result.

My mother is in her 70s with no wrinkles at all. I'm 50 with no wrinkles at all. It's the EDS. I am also not through menopause at all and have been told that's when age suddenly kicks in. I'll find out I guess but that hasn't happened with my mother.

You do not look like a teen. Sorry, but that's delusional. My nieces are 24 and you look older, so not 10 years younger either. You look about 30.

I think it's your hairstyle, it's one that's associated with youth

Yeah you really don't look like a teen , sure you look nice ,I would put you late 20,s ,34 not old anyway.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 04/08/2024 13:13

I'm told not quite often but to be honest I'm more interested in staying healthy, as over 60.

bryceQ · 04/08/2024 13:31

I think photos never really show an accurate representation, when you see someone in daylight, there's a different texture that skin gets as we age even the difference from thirties to twenties is visible in harsh light! Cruel but true

Thank you! That’s what I thought not sure why people think I look younger

MrsWidgerysLodger · 04/08/2024 16:07

I never used to. I turned 40 and suddenly all the years caught up :(

Berlinlover · 04/08/2024 16:08

I always looked younger than my age but since I was diagnosed with cancer last September I felt I had aged a lot. When having chemo a couple of months ago the lady sitting next to me asked me if I would be able to have children after my treatment, I had to laugh - I’m 48.

This is a constant thread on Mumsnet and it's not just your face

It's your hair
Your style
Your figure
Your teeth
Your height

I'm always told I look younger and it's because everything is fairly in order . I am 5 foot with a good hourglass figure which makes me look younger and i absolutely do not dress as some 50 year olds do and I don't intend to any time soon ! I honestly don't care what anyone thinks though

Madrigal12 · 04/08/2024 20:51

I'm often mistaken for someone 10 -12 years younger which is nice, but in my head I'm still about 18 and that's the reality !
