What is so engaging about Trump?

The thought of him getting in as president again worries me.

But I will admit on here anonymously. I am very interested when he's speaking and like to know what he has to say even though I disagree with loads

It's like he has a certain hold that gets my attention. I want to see where he will go next etc

But again, know he is a terrible choice to be running America.

What is it about him people like and want to vote for? Is it subconscious, is something he's doing speaking to people on a very social/psychological level?

But yet he's a much better choice than Biden

It really is a race to the bottom isn't it? 🤦🏻‍♀️

ComtesseDeSpair · 21/01/2024 21:17

For his many faults, he’s clearly proud of the best things about the US, of being American, and wants the country to be great. I think he appeals to many ordinary people who feel the same way and feel alienated by the old establishment politicians who don’t really seem to stand for very much and are wrapped up in “politics.” Trump’s stance is actually surprisingly rare in politics - in both the US and the U.K: I can’t think of very many politicians who genuinely appear to be in politics for love of their country and a desire to make it a great place to live for its people and are vocal about it.

I dislike him intensely but he seems to have a knack of saying what people want to hear. He's an entertainer, knows how to get a crowd on his side. He has become like a charismatic religious leader for some in the US. I find it very concerning.

GrumpyPanda · 21/01/2024 21:24

He's unable to string two coherent sentences together, which is why the media rarely show ten straight minutes of him in a row but only garbled soundbites. But I guess some people are in it for the entertainment value.

Patriotism my ass. Trump is a malignant narcissist and only cares about Trump, including making money off the secret service. But he's an entertainer and gives people what they want- in this case the Christo-nationalists.

PuneorPlayonWords · 21/01/2024 21:24

I have family in the US. They are dyed in the wool Republicans. The GOP could nominate a potato on a stick for president and they would vote for it. Politics in the US is tribal, people vote for their party irrespective of the absolute shit they come out with, on either side.

IHS · 21/01/2024 21:25

He has no education, can't string a coherent sentence together, has no proper political experience, has committed crimes, is morally bankrupt, is far right, spouts absolute rubbish and is as thick as mince, is irresponsible, although he does have a type of criminal cunning which has allowed him to get this far.

Ellysetta · 21/01/2024 21:27

He tells thick impoverished ans violent men that they’re superior to everyone else especially women and non-whites and that sexual violence against women is fun. It’s a very appealing message to a certain kind of man.

CharmedCult · 21/01/2024 21:27

He's unable to string two coherent sentences together

And Joe Biden can't even manage one.

A country so huge and these two are apparently the best on offer.

Sofabum · 21/01/2024 21:29

He doesn't speak in riddles like a politician and doesn't speak like he's wrapped up with ivy League pomposity. I don't like the man but I can imagine if you're an 'average Joe' he cuts through the bullshit.

This

Sums up the situation perfectly. Don't forget how racist and misogynistic these thick men are and presumably their thick wives are just as bad if they're happy to vote for the orange monster as well.

At least these ivy league pomposities haven't landed us in the next world war. Wait until trump does get re elected. We ain't seen nothing yet. He's the biggest fan of the world's most dangerous dictator. We are so fucked. Would you let a toddler play with TNT?

DeltaCity · 21/01/2024 21:36

at a guess the other previous presidents were more in line with the idea of a one world govt and the new world order, where as trump is more of the empire building and just focuses on America ?

Notonthestairs · 21/01/2024 21:37

“As the court explained in its recent decision denying Mr Trump’s motion for a new trial on damages and other relief [in the New York case] … based on all of the evidence at trial and the jury’s verdict as a whole, the jury’s finding that Mr Trump ‘sexually abused’ Ms Carroll implicitly determined that he forcibly penetrated her digitally – in other words, that Mr Trump in fact did ‘rape’ Ms Carroll as that term commonly is used and understood in contexts outside of the New York penal law.”

This is so weird - his speech is so disordered you'd assume he was literally talking in riddles if you didn't know who he was

He appeals to conspiracy theorists. You can see why he does well. Their education system has failed and they don't live in reality anymore. I think we're fairly close behind.

Yes but he hits key points. "Immigrants....boo" type of thing.

I can't understand him in the same way I can't understand the people in my village FB group. They literally write incoherent rubbish and can probably understand trump perfectly well because he speaks their language.

Elvanseshortage · 21/01/2024 21:56

@ComtesseDeSpair

Two things you say are absurd. I can’t believe you really believe them. You say that Trump appeals to people because:

1.’He is proud to be American and proud of America’ What? Most people in every country in the world are proud of where they come from. It’s just a normal aspect of being a human being. It’s like saying you love your dog. It’s so unremarkable. Why on earth would it be a reason to vote for somebody? And do you think that other U.S politicians don’t love their country? Why? What evidence do you have for that? None at all.

2.’He isn’t part of the establishment’ This is just laughable as well as absurd. You think that A multi millionaire conservative who has been president is not part of the establishment? Do you know what establishment means? What you are saying is like something out of a dystopian film. Black = white, war=peace etc. It makes no sense at all.

Hecate01 · 21/01/2024 21:58

It's because he's not a politician. He doesn't care what he says and doesn't try to dodge or deflect questions, regardless of agreeing with him or not at least he gives a straight answer. I can imagine that being in America and having him on tv and in the media constantly with his straight talk is very appealing to voters.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 21/01/2024 22:03

I just find it bewildering in a country the size of American the best they can up with is Trump or Biden.

From what I understand, it's to do with finances. It's hugely expensive to fund a presidential campaign and therefore only the rich can afford to do it. You can end up with ridiculous mediocrities though. At least Biden has political experience. The orange monster has nothing going for him. He's a total joke.

Elvanseshortage · 21/01/2024 22:10

@Hecate01
He’s not a politician?
He gives straight answers?

Neither of these statements are true. At all. On what planet is a president not a politician? His speech is garbled, evasive and unclear. Full of incredibly simplistic slogans. I can’t believe you really think he is straight talking.
