- "Holding" is flying racetracks type patterns (?circling)
- "Going around" is abandoning an approach.
- BTW neither of the above can be called "loops"..that's something very different that you don't want to try in an airliner,
Also BTW somebody asked upthread about the very accurate holding patterns.
Modern types, with GPS, can be programed to fly a hold and they go round hthe oval as if on rails. The old fashioned way with the pilots steering used to end up with some very odd looking patterns in strong winds.
