If you click on the plane it will tell you

I have no idea how people manage to track multiple flights. But I need to know what happens to that one even though I have no connection to it!

I am on the web version - you can normally see details such as altitude, ground speed and bearing if you click on the plane.

Istanbul - LGW just went back up.

NorthernPoppetPrincess · 21/01/2024 22:33

Oooo looks like it’s heading right over my house the diverted Alicante flight!!

maudelovesharold · 21/01/2024 22:33

Strangermanger · 21/01/2024 22:25

I’m waiting for Alicante and Leeds and Wroclaw. Really need to go to sleep but addicted!

addicted to what? Secretly hoping you witness a crash that’s not going to happen because there’s no danger?

MN never ceases to amaze me! Why be so snippy on a Flight Radar thread in Chat? AIBU ———>

mauvish · 21/01/2024 22:33

ohmydiddlydays · 21/01/2024 22:32

@mauvish I have learnt today that going around means coming down to land and deciding not to at a fairly late stage. So I guess circling is just going round at a static height.

OK, I understand

HuntingForChicken · 21/01/2024 22:33

Shannon to Dublin just failed to land.

EwwSprouts · 21/01/2024 22:33

Alicante still climbing. Heading for Humberside?

SeththeSloth · 21/01/2024 22:34

Wizz Air WUK828 has just done a go around at Gatwick.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/01/2024 22:34

MassiveOvaryaction · 21/01/2024 22:31

It changed in the time I took to post that 😂

It keeps doing it, and now it's going round yet again!!

I know - gusts and all that - but other stuff's landing there??

Countrylife2002 · 21/01/2024 22:34

Manchester to Dublin has so many loops. Why did they even take off?!

Stringagal · 21/01/2024 22:34

msmatcha · 21/01/2024 22:31

Alicante Leeds has finally given up - climbed to 15 k and diverting.

Where the heck is it going? One diverted to Hull earlier today, which is a rarity, but it could be on its way there?

Clearinguptheclutter · 21/01/2024 22:34

mauvish · 21/01/2024 22:31

Is "going around" not synonymous with "circling"? Serious question.

No
a “go around” is a landing attempt, descending with that intention, then aborting

circling is a holding patterns, usually at 10,000 plus feet. With no immediate intention to land

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 21/01/2024 22:34

@cakeorwine M62 is always horrendous. Glad I’m not working tonight and driving on it.

mummyh2016 · 21/01/2024 22:34

Another go around at DUB, this time SNN. EDI coming in for a second attempt now.

DoneByWeds · 21/01/2024 22:35

Phew, Wizz Air from Bucharest has now landed at Stansted on the second attempt after two goes at Gatwick. (Overinvested!)

Indeed I am watching with interest

perhaps given the fate of several others, France!

cakeorwine · 21/01/2024 22:35

I sometimes think it's easy to forget there are people on those planes - it's so easy to just see planes on a screen.

I wonder how air traffic controllers do it?

NorthernPoppetPrincess · 21/01/2024 22:35

I’ve just given it a wave off as it passed right over!

Mojodojocasahaus · 21/01/2024 22:35

Where is the Faro to East Mids going?

mummyh2016 · 21/01/2024 22:35

EDI-DUB going around for a second time.

notimagain · 21/01/2024 22:35

mauvish · 21/01/2024 22:31

Is "going around" not synonymous with "circling"? Serious question.

No...

  1. "Holding" is flying racetracks type patterns (?circling)
  2. "Going around" is abandoning an approach.
  3. BTW neither of the above can be called "loops"..that's something very different that you don't want to try in an airliner,

Also BTW somebody asked upthread about the very accurate holding patterns.

Modern types, with GPS, can be programed to fly a hold and they go round hthe oval as if on rails. The old fashioned way with the pilots steering used to end up with some very odd looking patterns in strong winds.

cakeorwine · 21/01/2024 22:36

Going to Hull - so at least it's staying on the right side of the Pennines!!!
