But how are they making that perfect loop?! If you zoom in the north bit of it there are four trails the same. Is it autopilot?

Good flying?

I am very impressed with their tracking

Missed again. How many times will they try? Alicante to Leeds

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/01/2024 22:22

Ryanair Manchester to Dublin's back over the sea and turning north? Confused

I'd say they should have swum instead, but have you seen the marine forecast??

BrainInAJar · 21/01/2024 22:22

@DrunkenElephant thanks. Looks like you need to be on the app to see that. I can't see it on the desktop. But I can see 12k folk watching that plane circle Leeds airport! Wonder how many are Mnetters!

Countrylife2002 · 21/01/2024 22:20

Jeez. And how low on fuel would this flight have been? I suppose they can always land, it’s a risk assessment thing

Edited

The sharm to Glasgow flight was in the air for 7 hours and would have had very little left. It’ll be why it didn’t hang around in Glasgow or prestwick, had to make a quick decision to try elsewhere where chances of landing much higher. It’s not that windy here atm.

BoilingHotand50something · 21/01/2024 22:22

Gran Canaria to LGW came in to land but back up.

Raspberrymoon49 · 21/01/2024 22:23

Alicante-Leeds round we go again

ThePoshUns · 21/01/2024 22:23

Supposed to be having n early night and you naughty people have sucked me into a radar worm hole

NorthernPoppetPrincess · 21/01/2024 22:23

I’m just south of Leeds and the wind is pretty bad. Not constantly, it seems to settle down and then pick back up again.

They didn't try.
They are just circling over Leeds at about 10, 000 feet.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 21/01/2024 22:23

I’m not massively far from Leeds Bradford and it’s windy as hell here.

Mojodojocasahaus · 21/01/2024 22:23

The Brussels to East Mids is the weirdest - it’s over Germany which is some holding pattern!

they’re not missing, not a single attempt yet.. 10,000 ft the whole time. Clearly waiting for the weather to improve.

lezsucks · 21/01/2024 22:24

Berlin-Glasgow just south and east of Newcastle at the moment

Russoooooo · 21/01/2024 22:24

Where’s UPS off to? He missed EMA, looked like he was off to London, and now seems to be heading to mainland Europe…

SecretKeeper1 · 21/01/2024 22:24

carly2803 · 21/01/2024 22:20

2 circling over leeds airport -
what on earth is going on? is the weather that bad ?

Yes. Nearly 60mph and its the highest airport in England I believe. Plus there’s only one runway that they can land on from either direction, but it’s not helpful with these crosswinds.

loobylou10 · 21/01/2024 22:24

Same @BellaTheDarkOverlord It's Wild isn't it

It’s been alternating all day - Jet2 landing, Ryanair aborting. No particular lulls in wind speed, I think the Jet2 pilots must be more confident on their home turf.

Well the wind on the reports has definitely has been changing (i.e. has contained gusts ) so limits and rules will have played a part and TBH I'm wary of assigning anything in aviation simply to confidence, it can bite you in the backside.

However I agree the Leeds based crews get a fair bit of crosswind handling practice which will help.

Strangermanger · 21/01/2024 22:25

I’m waiting for Alicante and Leeds and Wroclaw. Really need to go to sleep but addicted!

addicted to what? Secretly hoping you witness a crash that’s not going to happen because there’s no danger?

Coming back to have a go from a different angle looks like.

runbackhome · 21/01/2024 22:25

Ryanair FAO to EMA and DPD LEJ to EMA haven't even made it near to Nottingham yet, they seem to have diverted totally in different directions. The wind in the midlands is pretty strong. DPD looks like it on its way back the way it came and Ryanair is heading south.

loobylou10 · 21/01/2024 22:25

@Clearinguptheclutter ah right thanks for clarifying. Horrible for those onboard though. I'm near the airport and it's wild windy here

cakeorwine · 21/01/2024 22:26

1 Ryanair over Leeds at 20,000
1 over Leeds at 10,000

Milan-lgw has gone east. Not sure where its going.

We are just outside Leeds and the wind is currently at 77km/h according to Alexa so it doesn't surprise me the 2 LBA flights are struggling.

It's making everyone else look very scribbley.
