Can you still jump/hop?

Random I know! I can't do either. Not sure if it's an age thing, or that I've got plantar fasciitis, but even on a good day, I just can't convince my body to do it 😁

If I don't mind a bit of pee coming out I can 😂

Somepeoplearesnippy · 17/01/2024 10:16

I can do the hopping, jumping and sitting down but can't get up.

I'm 62 and had emergency surgery 4 months ago which involved 2 large abdominal incisions so my core muscles are very weak atm. I've got a 2 week yoga trip booked for spring which I'm currently working towards. Hopefully when I come back from Thailand I'll be bouncing about like an elderly gazelle.

I went down a rabbit hole of other tests and read some critiques of the sit/stand test. One test that's easy is the one with a price f string. You take a length equal to your height, fol it in half and then see if it fits aroud your waist. I like this one because I can do it, but it does lend itself towards favouring pears and hourglass folks obviously.

GettingStuffed · 17/01/2024 11:01

Can just about jump but not hop. I also can't run as I have arthritis and have been advised not to do this sort of exercise. I can touch my toes though

Which is fair enough because health outcomes also 'favour' those shapes.
Statistically, apples suffer worse health outcomes, due to the type of fat and the way it is stored when you have an apple shape, which itself is usually the result of diet and lifestyle factors.

OldTinHat · 17/01/2024 11:20

I definitely hope and jump when I see a spider. Does that count?

stayathomer · 17/01/2024 11:22

Yes can skip and jump but my knees are horror movies! Don’t have the guts to try a forward roll, think I’d have to go to the hospital 😅(43) Going to add was very proud I could still easily touch my toes when youngest asked the other day!!

CatamaranViper · 17/01/2024 11:46

Yeah I can hop, jump, skip, forward roll, backwards roll, cartwheel, handstands etc.

I cannot however do the yoga wheel pose anymore... My arms feel shorter somehow...

Sedgwick · 17/01/2024 11:48

Yes! 56

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 17/01/2024 11:58

I can do both (just tried) but no way am I as active or as flexible as in mid 40s (now early 50s). I did weekly vinyasa flow yoga then, when I returned to it after a 2-3 year break definitely harder. I did have plantar fasciitis over lockdown but cured and also have underactive thyroid.

Can anyone sit down on the floor without your knees, or any part of your arms or hands touching the floor, and then stand back up again, same rules of touching? You're supposed to be ultra fit and flexible if you can. My children can. I can sit down, but can't get back up again.

I can hop and jump though. (I'm 46).

Same and same age!

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 17/01/2024 12:05

Late 50's. Can hop, skip, jump and still do backflips on a trampoline.

aintnospringchicken · 17/01/2024 12:18

I'm in my 60s and can still hop and jump. DH was quite bemused when he caught me hopping round the coffee table as I was proving to myself I could still do it.

AyeRightYeAre · 17/01/2024 12:18

Yes but I get no joy from either.

idontlikealdi · 17/01/2024 13:23

Yes but cartwheels are a no, and handstands. Can still do it against a wall.

Can also do a forward roll and a bridge.

Can just about get off the floor from cross legged but I'm losing the ability.

49 and fat but still exercise quite a bit.

Hellokittymania · 17/01/2024 13:27

Yes, I can still do both, I’m visually impaired, and when my very little remaining vision took a very big decrease, I actually had very bad nausea and dizziness, and had a bit of a difficult time with balance, but I used to do gymnastics, and I have tried to do as many things as I can, especially because I was very active before and still would like to be this way.

Singleandproud · 17/01/2024 13:31

@aintnospringchicken did you challenge him to see if he could still hop too?

SnaccidentsHappen · 17/01/2024 13:41

Yes, I can also still do a pretty impressive handstand and cartwheel.

RomeoandJomeo · 17/01/2024 13:43

RichardsGear · 17/01/2024 00:12

I've just had to get out of bed to check I can still hop and I can but without much height off the floor; jumping was slightly better. The poor cats were saucer eyed and obviously wondering wtf was going on! 😆I'm early 50s and a bit hefty.

This is a good illustration of the sit to stand thing.

Can hop and jump no problem, and also do the sitting down / standing back up thing easily - but then, I find sitting cross-legged very comfortable and usually sit this way on chairs. Touching my toes - no chance, though I know from experience that yoga would sort that out for me. 53.

Strokethefurrywall · 17/01/2024 13:48

I'm only 44 but yes can do (and regularly do) all those things but I also work out 5-6 times a week, a lot of which involves hopping, skipping and jumping.

B1rd · 17/01/2024 14:32

51 here and I can still do a cartwheel, forward roll, touch my toes, sit down on the floor without using my hands and get back up again. I can also hop, skip and jump. I never go the gym and I'm probably the most unhealthiest person I know.

FruitBowlCrazy · 17/01/2024 14:39

Yes I can, aged 62, but I do adult ballet which helps. V good for balance as well.

DistractMe · 17/01/2024 14:45

You lot are a bad influence! I can hop and jump no problem and still do an impressive cartwheel. I can sit no hands but only stand if I move onto my knees first - I've never been able to stand directly from cross-legged.

But I just did a forward roll, which I was able to do, but my upper spine is now giving me a severe telling off....

I'm 60 btw

IncompleteSenten · 17/01/2024 15:13

It turns out I can in fact hop and jump about an inch off the ground .
I don't intend to push my luck further than that so my ability to do handstands will remain undetermined. 🤣

IncompleteSenten · 17/01/2024 15:14

No chance on the sitting down getting up thing.

I need a forklift for that.
