Can you still jump/hop?

Random I know! I can't do either. Not sure if it's an age thing, or that I've got plantar fasciitis, but even on a good day, I just can't convince my body to do it 😁

Just checked. I can still do it phew! 'but there is a strange creaking sound from my joints!! I'm 52.
Also checked out pp suggestion and can sit down on floor and get up again without using my hands- double phew! I am however not very fit or flexible.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 16/01/2024 22:48

Yes I can do both at the grand old age of 67. I was still playing social netball until the lockdowns though. How can you play hopscotch without jumping and hopping? 😀

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/01/2024 22:50

I’m off to try 🤣

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 16/01/2024 22:51

I’m 49. I can do all of those things, but not with any finesse.

GenXisthebest · 16/01/2024 22:53

Yes. I'm 49.

Did you do it?!

I'm guessing mine is fear of pain then from PF. Might force myself with lots of pillows round me just in case....

TheNoodlesIncident · 16/01/2024 22:57

No, me knees are fooked. Getting down from step stools can cause stabby pain, as can high kerbs and stiles. I'm not even going to try hopping and jumping.

It was difficult getting back up from the floor, I probably looked like an elderly horse getting up and my hands were reaching out to hold onto furniture. I'm only 53 <cries>

Agingeyelids · 16/01/2024 23:00

I can just about hop but jumping is hard as my left knee is bad.

I've had issues down that side ever since it took 3 attempts to inject the anaesthetic for my c section. Proper nerve jangling spikes of pain sometimes - think it's my piriformis (?) muscle causing sciatic like pain. Meaning my knee is tender.

I'm also on a mission to lose at least 2 stone so hoping that helps!

I'm only 41.

Can anyone sit down on the floor without your knees, or any part of your arms or hands touching the floor, and then stand back up again, same rules of touching? You're supposed to be ultra fit and flexible if you can. My children can. I can sit down, but can't get back up again.

I can hop and jump though. (I'm 46).

I can do that. Just tried. I had to sigh a bit though!

IlsSortLaPlupartAuNuitMostly · 16/01/2024 23:09

Yes. I had a full set of urodynamics tests last year for suspected cancer (it was fine) and the nice young chap behind the curtain looking at the scan images on the screen was impressed by how well supported my bladder was. <<preens>> Grin The "for your age and reproductive history" was silent but implied.

However I'm in my PJs so the absence of bra is a deterrent to a lengthy trial. Just a couple of hops and jumps with my arms clutched across my chest.

MillicentRogers · 16/01/2024 23:10

Yes. I can also do the splits and bounce on a trampoline. I'm fast approaching 60.

PickAChew · 16/01/2024 23:13

The going up bit is OK but landing really hurts. Most of my. Joints are knackered in one way or another.

Likewise - just did some hops and jumps to and from the loo.Grin
I'm 63.
I can do the down part of the sitting thing but not quite the up, we've been trying those in Pilates. Yesterday we had a different variant that I could do but (if I've remembered it correctly) it went momentarily via knees into an arse to grass squat and thence on upwards.

clary · 16/01/2024 23:19

Yes I can do both. I've just turned 60 (last week!).

I do yoga every day and as a result I can touch my toes with my hands flat. That's about your body to some extent tho (I mean, you could be very fit and supple but still not be able to do that - but practice will improve what you can do).

Not tried a forward roll lately, but I can do plough pose if warmed up.

I can get on the floor with no help, but I can't do the standing up from the floor without help thing tho - I have to use a bit of a knee. My kids esp sporty DS2 can do it but fair enough tbh.

gano · 16/01/2024 23:20

I'm 39, and i can hop and jump. Going to try the floor thing in a min and report back. I don't hold up much hope as my knees haven't been the best for years.

SewingBees · 16/01/2024 23:26

I took up tap dancing 18 months ago after a very long break (like 35 years) and was surprised that I could still do it all without difficulty. Just had major spinal surgery though, so can't hop on my left leg anymore. I'll know I'm fully recovered when I can, and am considering videoing me dancing and sending it to my surgeon. I'm not sure he believed me when I said I was a tap dancer. I'm 51.

gano · 16/01/2024 23:29

I can do the sitting down and getting back up again. It was a huge effort but I managed it...just about!

SkiingIsHeaven · 16/01/2024 23:29

I can jump but not high and can only hop on my left leg.

I had spinal surgery for cauda equina and sent a photo once I was recovered of me jumping my horse
He posted it on twitter (with my permission) Grin and said that's why he does the job
He did also say I had a great recovery as I was wilful Blush

solsticelove · 16/01/2024 23:37

I can at nearly 50. I do lots of yoga though and still do ballet. I’m one of the youngest at my ballet class. Can easily get down and up off the floor too. I’m determined to stay this way for as long as humanly possible!

Snowflakesonhisnose · 16/01/2024 23:40

61 and just tried - turns out I can still hop and jump. Can't get up without my hands though. Can anyone still sit on the floor with their bum on the floor and their legs in a W either side iyswim? I'm astonished to discover I can still do that.

I've only got 1 bodily superpower, and it's a completely useless one - being able to 'sit' against a wall (without a chair) for ages. We used to have competitions at work, and I'd always win. So odd because I'm not great at any sport!

Flossflower · 16/01/2024 23:43

Yes, sympathies with the Plantar Fasciitis. I had it 12 years ago and it lasted over a year. As I am a hill walker I am trying very hard not to get it again so I always wear orthotics.

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 16/01/2024 23:45

I'm fat and fifty but can hop and jump. Unfortunately, an increase in seismic activity is usually reported when I do so I try to keep it to a minimum.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 16/01/2024 23:51

Hop, skip and jump - yes. Anything else no and never have been able too. I can get down to the floor and up again, but I admit to using hands, knees and boobs if not wearing a bra. No leakage!
