Random I know! I can't do either. Not sure if it's an age thing, or that I've got plantar fasciitis, but even on a good day, I just can't convince my body to do it 😁

I tried the standing up thing, I definitely need assistance!

Can anyone sit down on the floor without your knees, or any part of your arms or hands touching the floor, and then stand back up again, same rules of touching? You're supposed to be ultra fit and flexible if you can. My children can. I can sit down, but can't get back up again.

I can hop and jump though. (I'm 46).

You don't need to be 'ultra' fit to do this. I can do this easily. I'm relatively fit but I'm not ultra anything. I'm 57

VeryHungrySeaCucumber · 17/01/2024 21:49

I can hop, jump, and do that getting up from the floor thing although none are as easy as in my 20s & 30s. I am early 50s.

I am trying to preserve my knees which are starting to grumble a bit, so I do minimise jumping and hopping.

clary · 17/01/2024 21:54

I'm impressed (and somewhat daunted) by the number of ppl who can stand up from sitting cross legged on the floor without any help at all.

I need only one limb (knee) but I do need that. You may not all be "ultra fit" but you certainly have strong core muscles!

TitaniasAss · 17/01/2024 22:46

I can hop and jump, but I really don't like to. ☺️

LWSnow · 17/01/2024 23:22

I can hop, jump and stand up from the floor . Age 62

I second that. I am 56, far more sedentary than I ought to be and in no way ultra fit but I can do this sit down stand up test. It is in no way elegant and requires a yoga session to warm up first though.

I can manage jumping and hopping too. Maybe it helps that I'm a wee shortie. At only 4 foot 9 getting down to tho floor and back up again is not far at all for me!

Pickingmyselfup · 18/01/2024 18:44

I'm 37, can hop and jump fine. I can sit on the floor without touching it with anything, to get up I need to move my leg sideways but my knee itself doesn't touch the floor. I got my 6 year old to do it and he did exactly the same so maybe that's how it's supposed to be done because I can't see any other way of getting up.

Just tried a forward roll, took a bit of gearing myself up to do it and I felt dizzy after but I can still do it.

Wouldn't dare try a cartwheel or handstand but I'm sure if I plucked up the courage I could. Even as a child I went through phases of being scared to do them so that's nothing new I guess.

Age is definitely creeping up on me physically but mentally I'm still 20!

ETA...

I just asked my 8 year old to do it and he got up using his feet. I absolutely can't do that, I tried but I think I'm too big, I'm very short but I feel I need to be close to the ground.

Tigertigertigertiger · 19/01/2024 17:02

Absolutely not

I can, but only by getting up throwing my arms outwards for momentum! Not sure if that's cheating. Grin

I know I annoy one of the older ladies at church by kneeling at the altar rail and getting up without using my hands - I remember my mum ticking me off for grabbing the rail as a child and it stuck with me.

I never could do a somersault, so I imagine I still can't!

floppin · 19/01/2024 19:24

I'm 44 so quite a bit younger here. I do lots of skipping and hopping with my toddler. Just tried the sitting down thing and it was fine. Last time I went to a trampoline park was in early pg with my toddler (with my older child) and I thought oops, that wasn't a great idea!
We had PILs visiting recently and they struggled to sit on the floor with the dcs at all (we don't have chairs in their playroom or bedroom, we just sit on the floor with them). I find it quite depressing that I could get to that stage in a few decades and definitely want to do any exercises that will help me stay fit enough.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 19/01/2024 19:51

I can hop, jump and skip, can do the stand to sit with one arm.

However, I can do a lot of chest to floor burpees, and I'm early sixties, so I'm not worrying.

Hazil · 19/01/2024 19:58

Yes but there’s a 50:50 chance I’ll wee.

helpfulperson · 19/01/2024 20:03

No I can't jump or hop. I must admit I was quite surprised when I discovered this when I went back to line dancing age 55. I'm very overweight but fairly fit, doing a lot of hiking, occasional running and swimming..

24Seconds2Go · 19/01/2024 20:24

How old are you Op?

Can do both. 50s

CrunchyCarrot · 19/01/2024 20:24

I can jump, not going to try to hop, my sacroiliac joint will have something to say about that. 68 yrs old, but can't get up off the floor without a lot of help from nearby furniture.

24Seconds2Go · 19/01/2024 20:24

I'm about 5 stone over weight as well

24Seconds2Go · 19/01/2024 20:25

Wee leakage likely

OnTheBanks · 19/01/2024 20:29

Yes, I'm 59

noisygit · 19/01/2024 20:29

I can jump and hop but tried to do a bridge in recent months to show dd and my arms were having none of it.
Handstand turned into a scary nose dive as well, arms again. Did break an elbow in my youth which I thought had heeled well but looks like it's haunting me now.

What do you mean by jump. If you can run you can jump surely. Not a mammoth leap by a small jump.
