Inspired by a recent discussion on Reddit.

I am interested in any brilliant 80s songs that you think should be better known.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead by XTC. It came to mind a lot during Covid with the way Manchester was treated.
No Thugs In Our House by XTC.

Edited

I'm pretty sure that was the early 90s, I'd left home before Nonsuch came out. Cracking album though.

So many excellent songs on this thread!

I would add All Lined Up by Shriekback, Listen to the Radio by Tom Robinson, Black Cars by Gino Vanelli, Doot Doot by Freur (that one might be too obscure for some) and How Beautiful You Are by Peter Blegvad.

coldcallerbaiter · 15/01/2024 18:33

They don’t know - Kirsty McColl

EscapeTheCastle · 15/01/2024 18:33

The Alarm had some big hits but you never hear them on the radio, even the 80's stations.
Rain in the Summertime
Rescue Me

I love these songs so much!

Check out Dollar singing "Mirror Mirror" and "O L'amour" they were pretty cringe and we were all too cool for them at the time, but now, here we are 35 years later and they just embody 80's joy!

Then Jerico - The Motive
Red Box - Lean on me.
Broken Land - The Adventures
I also loved Cry before Dawn, especially Gone Forever. Have they ever been played on the radio? Even in the 80s?

I am looking for more ideas for my Alexa playlist.

I loved Red Box- the very first song I ever looked up on 'You Tube' was 'Lean on Me' Grin
The second was 'San Damiano (Heart and Soul) by Sal Solo
