If you wear jeans almost every day, how often do you wash them?

I've just bought a new pair of jeans, and the instructions advise hanging them out on the line to freshen them up and avoid washing them if possible, to preserve their colour.

You'd think in this day and age that someone would have invented colour-fast dye for jeans!

Fwiw the reason jeans say not to wash is not to avoid fading, but to get better fades with more wear between washes. Most of us probably don't care that much about that.

People who don't think their groin and bum sweat are kidding themselves.

That's what underwear is for?!

I agree.....and if necessary panty liners.

Vettrianofan · 14/01/2024 12:56

Once a week. Wear joggers in the house though. Jeans come off once I get home and in for the day.

Yes! My first task is getting out of jeans and putting on joggers.

NewYearNewPyjamas · 14/01/2024 13:20

@TammyJones fairly certain panty liners are worse for the environment than washing clothes slightly more often. If a smelly fabric spends all day rubbing against another smelly fabric, they both smell.

adriftabroad · 14/01/2024 13:28

3 times a year? If dirty? Dunno.

My pants have their own , sewn in liners- not panty liners, which I don't use , but they could be used .

I shower in the morning and as sweaty as I may get the underside of my pants don't seem to smell ... maybe that's just me.
Pants clean pair every morning.

RampantIvy · 14/01/2024 14:01

Same @TammyJones.
Maybe some posters just get very sweaty and smellier than the average woman.

This thread seems to have evolved into a who smells the most thread.😂----

After one wear if I have worn them for the whole day. After 4-5 wears if I put them on just for the school run or nipping to the shops. A pair lasts me a good couple of years at least.

Joeslaol00 · 14/01/2024 01:25

After about 7 wears . I always have sanitary protection so I think 7 times is ready for a wash .

I wouldn't wear a pair of trousers twice if panty liners weren't a thing but maybe I'm paranoid about being smelly (I bath every day and nobody has ever told me I smell so I like to think I don't!!) so it's nice to know it's not just me!

Kalevala · 14/01/2024 14:30

I wash my work jeans fortnightly and my weekend jeans rarely, about every six months.

PuffinJilly · 14/01/2024 14:38

Every couple of wears. I wash them inside out on a 40 degree wash then either peg them on the line or tumble dry them, weather depending.
I also use fabric conditioner on them too. Shock horror.
They haven't been adversely affected. I've got a couple of pairs that are donkeys years old and they're still good.

Why? Do you have a mucky job?
Do you wash other clothes that are not next to your skin after every wear as well - hoodies, cardigans, jackets, coats?

You must spend all of your time washing.

Hoodies, cardigans and jumpers yes after one wear, along with trousers skirts and dresses. I didn't think it was that unusual tbh.
Coats I usually wash a couple of times a season as they don't really touch my skin (over my hoodie etc).
There are 4 of us in the house and we do have a lot of washing but we have a good system and it doesn't seem to get on top of us so 🤷‍♀️

How do you get all that dry in winter? I don't put another washing load on until the last is dry so there is space. It doesn't fully dry outside.

SoundTheSirens · 14/01/2024 15:04

When it’s borderline if they’d pass the sniff test. Clothing that’s next to my skin gets washed after every wear (and I shower before dressing each morning, bar the odd lazy “not leaving the house, going to binge box sets” kind of day) but otherwise it depends on the fabric and how clean or otherwise the item is. The knickers I wear aren’t a single layer of cotton, they have a gusset layer inside so that’s essentially two barriers between me and the jeans. TBF though I rarely wear jeans on two consecutive days and on their ‘day off’ they’re turned inside out and hung up to air.

I’m in my 50s and no one has ever shown reluctance to get close / hug / sit next to me etc, so I think my pragmatic approach to washing clothes when they’re actually dirty is working fine.

Clothes are not, in normal circumstances, 'dirty' after one wear.

Mine are, 3 dogs, chooks & eternally clumsy. 😁🐶

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 14/01/2024 15:09

Work jeans, every 3 days as they get a bit grubby, otherwise as and when I feel they need it.

We have a tumble dryer so drying isn't an issue.

Goodness. All that washing really isn't necessary. Don't you shower every day? I do. I also wear clean socks and underwear every day, I wear anti perspirant and don't perspire very much.

I am wearing a jumper (over a T-shirt) that I wore yesterday and the day before. It will go in the wash after I have taken it off tonight.

rookiemere · 14/01/2024 15:22

I'm wondering if I have some sort of an issue then.

I wash jeans when the crotch area smells, generally that's after a full days wear, or a couple of evenings if I'm lucky.

I have worn a clean pair since 5am this morning ( travelling) am now relaxing in hotel room, I checked them and they have a faint crotch whiff, I will probably wash that area before I wear them again- no washing machine as on holiday.

I don't have huge amounts of discharge or anything and I shower daily, so I'm not sure why they get smelly so quickly.

pinksofashoes · 14/01/2024 15:26

Once or twice a month. Obviously I would wash sooner if they were visibly dirty, but even small stains can be spot cleaned.

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/01/2024 15:32

Washing jumpers and cardies after every wear is insane, especially wool ones.

I am beginning to see why everyone has such high electricity bills!

VolvoFan · 14/01/2024 15:37

2-3 days' wear and then washed. Mine are supermarket jeans.

Oblomov23 · 14/01/2024 15:37

When they need a freshen up, they don't even get dirty, probably 3-4 wears.
